I justed used Eye Glo Plus Conforts Strained & Tired Eyes, Eye drops, then I notice it's been expired like 4 months ago at 08/2011... And someone wrote 24/2/09 maybe the date when it was bought... Opened...

Benzanzalkonium Clororide - 0.01%

Warning:
Not suitable for contact lens.
Store in a dry place at 25'C
Doscard contents 4 weeks after opening.


I only have 1 sets of eyes... I just rinsed them under water... What will the worst thing could happen to my eyes if used.

if you feel uncomfortable or have vision problem , see a optometrist. Like you say, u only have one set of eyes, take good care of it

IMO, better discard it if u r not sure about its expiry date...

discard the eye drops.
if its past its expiry date, the preservative used is no longer active and the solution will be susceptible to bacterial or and other microorganism colonisation.

usually cost for medical checkup when see optometrist how much ?

Better avoid... Eyes can be very sensitive... Take a good care n dont compromise

Don't use it. Contamination aside, the stability and rheology of the drug would also have altered and will certainly not work as effective anymore.

For eyes... better don't use expired items especially it had expired for 2 years.. not worth it if anything happen to your eyes.

get a new eye drop pls...

If it's expired only 4 months, don't worry about it. I would stop using it. But I wouldn't worry about having already used it a few times.

The way expiry dates for anything is set, on one side of the expiry date, you can be reasonably sure that the material is still good and useable. But on the other side of the expiry date, you cannot be sure that the material would be spoilt and unusable. In fact, it is frequently still useable. It's just that you can no longer be sure it is.

Nobody can predict the exact date of spoilage. And spoilage takes place over a period of time. It's not like the eye drop is perfect good at a moment in time, and one minute later, as the clock strikes midnight, it turns completely harmful.

I would be more concern about the note that it was opened nearly 3 years ago.

You assume the water is harmless and contains fewer microorganisms than what is in the bottle. This may not be true.

Watch out for any symptoms. If they develop, go visit a doctor. Otherwise, don't worry about it. Worry makes you unhealthy. It's definitely too early to make an appointment with an optometrist. Yes you only have one set of eyes. But just apply common sense.

There's a reason that they put the date there. Avoid it for your own safety

better buy a new one.. it's a big risk, better avoid than regret

step 1) make apptment with eye dr to have corneas checked in case of erosion.
step 2) ask the dr the question you wish to ask above.


I see many here try to affirm TS that "its fine", "dont worry", "expiry date not accurate, so dont bother with it" etc etc. we wont know, coz we arent the one producing those drops, nor are eye Dr.

Hie TS... you're right with you having just ONE SET of eyes. treat them well.

i actually tried before but ntg happen @@ it works like normal

buy a new one dear. if you accidentally used it , better wash ur eyes with water flow. it may contain bacteria u know

Once u opened an eye drop bottle, u are adviced to keep it NOT more than ONE month. The reason is the preservative of the eye drop works only for so long. After the period, there's a risk of bacterial contamination. Usually u wont get any problem if u used it for another week or two BUT at ur own risk.

nothing happen to me at all after using it more than 6 months to 1 year but one time can feel it burning and threw away but nothing bad happen one lah.. if it's really hazardous whether it's 1 year or more, i think health ministry will pull it out from the shelf also lah.

Health ministry dont have the time and manpower in the world to spot-check all pharmacies for expired products. Anyway, the product expired AFTER the consumer bought it .. so its out of health ministry's "jurisdiction". Since consumer like you made a personal conclusion its fine using it after expiry date, who are we to say otherwise?
