It is very common to ask for discount from your SA. We are not in the market buying fruits but we
are doing a 2nd biggest purchase besides our house. If u don't ask for discount they are smart and
pretend to keep quite or when u ask them they will give u guys excuses that this car is a brand new
hot model so no discounts. The SA will also give u reasons that the waiting list is too long therefore
no discounts at all.
I got a fren who never nego at all with the SA, even can get the SA's personal discount RM500/=.
Another fren nego and managed to get RM800/= plus free RM210 JPJ normal registration no. and
also free cheap windscreen/window tint which he opted for change of a good 3M car floor mats.
Last week I companied my MD to enquire about the new Camry and he also enquired about the
Prius C which he's not interested to purchase, the SA quickly offered us a discount of RM1000/= for
the Prius C plus few freebies which the SA never reveal to us unless we commit the purchase.
I asked my secretary to survey the discounts offer for Prius C from various showrooms nationwide.
Then I realized that regardless the main distributors or outside dealers in any states; their SA's
discounts varied and from the range of RM500/= to RM1200/= and some even throw in JPJ registration
number selection RM300 for free, free cheap windscreen/window tint (which many ppl don't want it),
free good quality floor mats, free full tank petrol on car delivery time and etc. It all depends on your
negotiation skills.
Even the same main distributor's branches or same dealer's branches; their services and professionalism
are different. Some SA is friendly and give u a good experience from day 1 to delivery of your car and
after sales services. Some SA's courtesy character change after you sign the dotted lines on the retail
customer order form.
My fren told me his UMW's SA totally change when he went back for services. Many times he told his SA
the problems on his car but his SA don't even want to listen at all and pushed him to refer to the service
technician and gave excuses that all SA cannot interfere with the service department bcos the service
personnels got no benefit from the commissions on the sales unlike the SA and don't want the SA to
interfere in their work. Come on la, don't bulls*** my fren... sales dept. and service dept. are all under
1 company. The SA can give advice to my fren or at least follow up.
Therefore u must do the survey first before u make any decisions on which showrooms and the right SA.
It is your rights to ask for discounts and other offers.
True, but in the end I'm still paying a higher fee on the car because I'm on the east and there was the shipping cost included and we did ask but the prices were basically fixed with what else they had offered. I pretty much drilled any info out of the SA for a month+ before committing but in the end there wasn't that much extras. You guys are kinda lucky. Thanks for the advice!
I hear you about the attitude change from some SA though, it's nasty when they do a total 180 - all about sales and zero customer satisfaction/support, especially those ones that like to make excuses. Luckily I've managed to avoid that kind of situation, but I've heard bad stories from friends and some family members.
