I think all if not most of us rooted with this method. It's easy and fast. There's no harm to rooting, in fact, rooting brings more advantages for you since you have more control over your phone.
*
i see... laugh.gif

then i should stick to this rooting method. icon_rolleyes.gif

in fact this is the 1ST phone i bought(older phone is pass down from my bro), 1st and ti is android sweat.gif

I can't forward my message using the default messaging in SGW, anyone know how to do this?
Is there anyway i can backup my SMS and notes in my old hp Sony Ericsson to SGW?
Appreciate of any suggestion given.
Thanks & best regards.

Rooted already !!
Easy my friend,
1st you must install root xplorer - get it from market -

then download this file :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment...chmentid=777588

extract the file you download to your phone..the file name is vold.fstab.

Open your root xplorer, tap 'mount R/W' ..
then go to folder name etc, open that folder..and again tap 'mount R/W'

after that go to your downloaded file vold.fstab, copy the file and
place it into the etc folder..it will replace the original vold.fstab in
the etc folder.

and final step, tap and hold the new vold.fstab file that u just now put,
some command will pop up..tap the permissions and change d permission
to ( Owner - read & write), (group - read), (others - read) - just
uncheck the non related column  and press ' OK '.

and now youre done.tap back the 'mount R/O' to change back
to ' mount R/W'..Reboot your phone n check ur new storage.
sweat.gif  I forgot to tell u..Backup ur original vold.fstab in etc folder...copy it and
place it somewhere. In case you want to swap back ur memory..

Mr.Cow cow.... biggrin.gif

i found out that u told a secret to all of us in thread 2..... rclxm9.gif

you said:

How much internal memory you still have? Go to Setting, Storage, you should see 3 type of memory:

1. SD Card - 5.9GB
2. USB Storage - 690MB (?)
3. Device memory - ?

If you Device memory is low, try go to Setting, Manage App, and move some App into SD card.

You can avoid problem like this if you chose to install any app to external sd card by default:

If you have Android SDK:

CODE
adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2

If not, just download a Terminal emulator and type:

CODE
pm setInstallLocation 2

icon_rolleyes.gif

i ahve a question,i use terminal emulator on my sgw, and i find out after use it, in order to make it work,i have to move the installed app to sd card, only then the app will REALLY move to external sd card...

is it normal.....?? rclxub.gif

thank you notworthy.gif

The command will only affect NEW app that you will install in the future. You need to manually move existing app to external sd by going to "Setting", "Manage Application", then select the App, and move to sd card.

Also, make sure you dont get "permission denied" type of error. If you have that error, make sure you run "su" first before running "pm setInstallLocation 2"

It's not really a secret, i found that out from googling around. smile.gif
*
hmm.gif

but im sure im installing the app after i run this code o.......i still have to move the apps to the sd card

and im sure no permission error o....weird.... rclxub.gif

The "Move to SD" actually move your app to External SD Card. You cannot see it on your External SD Card because they are encrypted in /.android folder. Look here if you want more info and test for yourself:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2125489/+1640#entry47394187

You also can set it so that all new App will be installed to external sd card by default, but you must have root:

Download Terminal Emulator from Market, execute this:

CODE
su
pm setInstallLocation 2

*Somehow, a few people report that it didn't work, although it work fine with my SGW*
*
mr. cow cow....must type su pm setInstallLocation 2...

the su is a must??

Ya, "su" will make you execute the command as "root".

In Froyo, you don't need "su". But starting with Gingerbread, to execute this command you need "root" privilege. That's why some people report that it no longer working after Gingerbread... it will work if you can run it as "root".

I tested yesterday, without "su", you will get "Access denied".

PS: if you have not rooted your phone, executing "su" will not get you root privilege. You can tell if you get root privilege if the prompt change from "$" to "#"
*
lol.....

last saturday i type without the su, and it works BUT i have to manually choose 'move to sd', after i install an app or game, tonight i try type with the 'su'...

then see if it works good..thanks bro....

off topic...

guys, need help....

Flashing recovery is very simple, all you need is root access on your phone, and adb on computer. You just copy downloaded recovery on internal sdcard. Then disconect phone from copmuter. Make sure that USB debugging is on. Now connect it again but don't connect phone memory (computer shouldn't see sdcard and internal memory in Windows explorer), open command prompt and got directory where adb is installed[SIZE=7].....

where is the directory??

i just simply key in adb shell in command prompt but is show adb is not recognize....

noob here....cham.... rclxub.gif

anyone care to share his experience with me?
