Last week, I was traveling and visited Kuala Lumpur with my friends. While I was doing some sight seeing in Putra Jaya, my friends and I were approached by some people in plain clothes pretending to be undercover cops. We were asked where we are from and what we are visiting Malaysia for. They briefly showed some ID we did not recognize and then forced us to give them all our belongings for inspection. They started sniffing our belongings as though they were checking for drugs. They then left saying that we are OK. We then realized we did not get everything back. An iPhone and some cash were stolen. We then proceeded to Tourist Police in Kuala Lumpur to make a police report. We left Malaysia two days after the incident.
Today, Apple's "Find my iPhone" feature in iCloud located my phone at Digital Mall, Jalan Persiaran Kewajipan, USJ 19, 47620 Subang Jaya, Selangor, Selangor, 47620, Malaysia. I've sent many messages demanding the return of the stolen phone along with an email address and a phone number. However, I didn't get any response from the person in possession of the phone. It seems the phone was sold to some shop in the mall.
I've tried contacting the inspector who is in charge of this case, but he is not responding to call/sms. I tried calling the police station and other departments, but they did not offer any help and repeated that no one else can handle the case, except the inspector in charge, and if he is not answering the call, then all I can do is wait until he responds. I will try calling again tomorrow, as maybe today was his off-day.
What do you guys suggest I do next?
TL;DR: I am a tourist, my iPhone got stolen in Malaysia and iCloud Find My iPhone tracked the location of the phone. Could not get immediate help from the police. What to do now?
