Bought it, just use Boleh VPN to reroute your connection to US.

Humble Indie Bundle 4 abused by Scrooge-like Steam scamming

user posted image

QUOTE
This is how nice things like Humble Indie Bundles stop happening: the Humble Indie Bundle 4, which also supports charities like the Red Cross and Child's Play, has people abusing the system for grinchy gain. Here's how the scam worked: oogie-boogies purchased the bundle for a penny, then used the Steam codes from the bundle "to 'legitimize' automated Steam accounts in order to increase their odds of winning prizes in Valve's current raffle promotion."

"This is unfair to legitimate entrants and is definitely not what we wanted to encourage with Humble Indie Bundle 4," wrote organizers on the Humble Bundle blog. "It's a lose-lose situation for the indie developers, charities, Valve, and Humble Bundle."

New orders now have a required purchase price of $1 to obtain Steam keys. For those who can't afford the dollar (*glares at your $5 mocha*), a Steam key can be provided by contacting the support team and promising "not to resell" or "otherwise abuse it."

It's a fair compromise to a sad situation that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Valve's Gabe Newell Wins Reader's Choice Person of the Year
user posted image
QUOTE
Valve boss Gabe Newell is IndustryGamers' 2011 Reader's Choice for Person of the Year, as determined by a poll of nearly 12,000 readers, which we opened on Friday and just closed today.

Newell came on strong, garnering nearly 50% of all the votes. It was a tough battle between Newell and Bethesda's Todd Howard for a while, until Newell surged ahead and maintained the lead. Howard placed second with a very respectable 3,873 votes (almost a third of respondents).

With the exception of a database hack, Valve's Steam had a very solid year. And Valve itself produced a follow-up to the hit Portal. The game went on to sell more than 3 million copies. Newell has also been outspoken on the topic of piracy and DRM, and how he believes good service effectively eliminates the problem.

Once again, congratulations to Gabe Newell! Please stay tuned for IndustryGamers' own Persons of the Year choices, which we'll be unveiling all next week, between December 27-30.

That is a clever approach.

1. Buy Steam Key
2. Buy *ahem* copy of the same title
3. initiate the download. pause the download.
4. copy the files over
5. resume download & verification + update
6. profit

This is especially beneficial when the titles are tenth of gigs huge and you got a limited monthly bandwidth.  thumbup.gif

Or alternatively, get someone with the game from Steam to send you a backup copy.

QUOTE(arubin @ Dec 26 2011, 10:09 PM)
The temptation to spend during sales is strong but for those of you who have bandwidth to spare (like if on unifi), than I suggest you guys download the demo first (if available) before buying. See if you actually like the game and would play it before whipping out the credit card.

I was tempted to get Atom Zombie Smasher myself because of all the good indie reviews plus the xmas achievement. Decided against it after playing the demo. Not that I didn't like it. It was not a bad game, but I can't quite imagine playing it over Shogun 2, Orcs Must Die, and a whole bunch of other games I already have. Buying a game just for the sake of the achievement seems rather pointless to me.

Won't deny I was sorely tempted though...I still might get it before the sale ends...must resist...

Once you hit certain amount of games on Steam, you would tend to spend less.
