hi everyone,

Bought the DV6-6168TX last Dec and still very much in love with this unit. I would like to share my experience of installing the 2nd HDD caddy from Casey.
I still need to do some modification to the casing because the face plate latches need very small adjustments. With these mod, you can detach the faceplate again if need to reattach the DVD drive. However, the way I did this may likely void any warranty (if there is any).

Removal and expanding the size of opening enable easier fitting of the face plate and removal for future.

The two inner latch (smaller), can hold the cover in place.

Dayyumm.. nice tuts with detailed step by step pictures. Nice work. thumbup.gif
Any plan for Raid-0 configuration? tongue.gif

Btw, can you activate AMD GPU in Ubuntu?
*
AMD GPU sadly very unforgiving.
Some claimed the latest driver from AMD works...and I tried last weekend still couldn't get the X server up.
Maybe 12.04 this June and pray that it runs. Otherwise, I'm still ok for my work.

No la no RAID-0. Both drive bootable yet it'll be interesting to try run RAID-0 or RAID-1 just for the heck of it. drool.gif

Lol yea.. AMD support for FOSS is horrendous, lucky enough i don't it to run in Linux. Intel GPU is more than enough for me. thumbup.gif

Are u solely run on Linux or you dual booting? If you dual bootting, Raid-0 wont work i think.  rclxub.gif

Yes only linux not dual booting. Btw for vgaswitcheroo, I only got that to start if installed 11.04. Stock installation of oneiric won't work unless upgrade.

Very nice!

So now you have a total of 2TB HDD space?  rclxms.gif

Added on March 7, 2012, 4:34 pmOn a side note, I am finally bluescreen-free on my DV6-6168TX.

Previously all my BSODs pointed to either atikmpag.sys or dxgkrnl.sys. They happened after waking up from hibernate. After POST, the screen would go dark for 10 seconds, then BSOD.

To fix this, I set the BIOS to "dynamic" graphics then using Leshcat's Catalyst 12.1 WHQL UnifL drivers, set it to use the Intel graphics for all applications regardless of whether or not the AC adaptor was plugged-in.

Finally no more BSOD. smile.gif

I use the DV6 for work and for a lot of Powerpoint presentations when I am away from the office, so no need for Radeon graphics. Perhaps when I start gaming, I'll set it to Radeon. smile.gif

Now back to 1TB, given the caddy and 1TB to my boss for his use. blush.gif Unfortunately I'm running Ubuntu on my unit and unable to wake up the ATI monster. Anyone has any luck with 12.04 beta? Since I don't have a spare 1TB anymore, won't be able to test it until next month.

Sorry for the late reply...
The Answer is : Simple, I didn't. The thickness of this caddy when fit into the bay is precise and it holds it in tightly. furthermore is convenient for me to remove the drive with one less screw to remove. However it's best to secure the HDD in the caddy with the provide screws so that it won't move up down, especially I like to put the laptop on Standby then dump into the bag.

Sonovab-... I see what I was doing wrong back when I tried to do the same thing now.

Just one question: how did you manage to mount the metal bracket at the back of the DVD drive to the caddy?

I'm just wondering why HP has discontinued the DV7-6c00TX and DV6-6168TX. Any idea, anyone?

at 4k price range can get Envy Series already, hahaha
*
Yes, Envy Series is sexy but with drawbacks. If need to upgrade components will be easier with the DV series.

8GB x 2 (16GB) RAM modules. Have anyone seen this around LYP or Sek 14 IT Mall? It's the same RAM modules for Apple only difference is the part number A and O.
