Hi Sifus, i wanted to send my notebook dv6 to service center located at HP tower. Do i need to make appointment before go? Btw, usually take how long to repair my lappy or is it collect it on the spot?

My defect is the fan problem which detected when i switch on my lappy and the message will auto pop up during loading...
*
nah, no need.
just walk-in -> take number -> be served by 2 options. 1-express service (b4 12/1pm) 4H service/2-normal service 3working days -> take the service receipt and go back.

by default, HP SC turnaround time is 3 working days unless there is no stock for parts or the issue is too abnormal that require additional time to monitor it.

btw, any1 would agree with me that just use the dv6 as rough as u can until it died by itself? eg. on for 24/7 (except for travelling), battery leave it be, doesnt give a dam to the heat when play HD games.
i mean from past experience with computer i used, it seems that computer that is turn on 24/7 will last longer for those that constantly shutdown and turn on when in use. just my 2cents on this

Thanks sifu smile.gif
Means that i can choose either express service which i have to wait for 4 hours and must arriving there before 1pm or just take away the receipt and collect my lappy after 3 days service, am i right??

My problem is the cooling fan not functional correctly  sad.gif
*
ya, basically is like that. unless there is no stock for the parts, than they will not honour the express service and will not charge u for that anyway.

2.i created a window 7 disc based on the guide of 1st page, and then i can succesfully change to 64bit ultimate but when i format to home premium x64 it will ended up with 32 bit home premium(just want to know why)

the win7 disc u created is not the recovery disc rite? if its recovery disc, than everything should be back to normal once u restore it.

i have asked at HP Service Centre Ipoh, they said no such service to upgrade from HD to Full HD screen.  you may ask at other HP Service Centres

here is some steps for install ati drivers for ubuntu 12.04 in dv6

This time we're going to install the ATI (proprietary) driver, the process is more or less the same for 64-bit and 32-bit machines. This process is a lot simpler when compared to the Nvidia driver.

1) First, check the software sources, then paste this command into the terminal:
CODE
sudo apt-get install build-essential cdbs dh-make dkms execstack dh-modaliases fakeroot

2) If you have a 64 bit system, do this step:
CODE
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs-multiarch:i386 lib32gcc1 libc6-i386
cd /usr
sudo ln -svT lib /usr/lib64

3) Paste these commands into the terminal to create a new folder and download your driver:
CODE
cd ~/
mkdir catalyst12.4
cd catalyst12.4/
wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run
chmod +x amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run

4) IF you have Intel HD graphics AND discrete ATI GPU, then do this(and reboot):
CODE
sudo ./amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run

5)Overwrite the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file(anyway):
CODE
sudo amdconfig --initial -f

6) Force the use of the new xorg.conf file:
CODE
sudo amdconfig --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf --tls=1

7)Reboot the computer, to verify your installation, follow the 8th step, otherwise you're Done.

8) To verify your installation, in terminal type:
CODE
fglrxinfo

9) OPTIONAL - you can try this for fun, in terminal type:
CODE
fgl_glxgears

10) To get the unknown graphic details solve in the "Details"
CODE
sudo apt-get install mesa-utils

11)To get the brightness button adjustable
CODE
sudo vi etc/default/grub

and add this line "pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 acpi_backlight=vendor" behind of the default "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash""
so you will get this
CODE
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 acpi_backlight=vendor"

got labor charge?  ohmy.gif
*
ya, for out of warranty unit. no charges for warranty unit. coz they will disassemble the unit, clean the dust and re-apply new layer of thermal paste. though, sometime it might be the fan not spinning at it usual speed.

why not in 64bit?  hmm.gif

how to change it all to 64bit?  rclxub.gif
*
the developer r considerate of those that r still using x86 OS. since most company apps r still using x86 OS, while most consumer r using x64 or so i assume since most new laptop r already shipped in x64 OS.

Check your current BIOS version with CPU-Z and then check driver support page for latest BIOS. Usually come with changelog.
*
alternatively, without using xternal program, we can always use msinfo32 to check for bios version wink.gif
