Curious question : How many of I9100G users actually have trouble free device?
I've probably tried 10 SGS II (I9100 + I9100G) & from my experience the I9100G model does have higher number of problems compared to I9100.

always thought the g version suppose to have a longer battery life then the non g version. even on GB 2.3.6 still camera fc ? Stock ROM ?
*
It's mixed bag. Some of the G models I tried have better battery life than non-G models & some don't.
I tested all the phones in same condition (stock rom, lowest brightness & no extra apps)
My friends said 2.3.6 reduced the camera fc but sometimes it'll happen again.

Both I9100 & I9100G is a good device with good collections of hardware. In term of hardware SGS II is still one of the best device around even though it was announced nearly 1 year ago.But the software side is bit questionable.Perhaps it's time for Samsung to concentrate improve on their software side now.

I know custom rom can clear some of Samsung's mess but as a device seller Samsung should deliver the best possible software by themselves.

QUOTE(iori57 @ Jan 4 2012, 06:13 PM)
ya i notice 80% people in this forum that report those problems are i9100G

another conclusion might be... for non G user most edi using custom rom, whereas G user mostly stock...

custom rom less problem compare to stock also a possibility..

maybe some G users with problems try flashing Super Rom for G version and report back whether less problems?
*
Not really. There are still some of the I9100 users around.Even with stock rom there's not much complaint from their side.

Correction : Well supported custom rom delivers better experience compared to stock rom.Rest of the custom rom which compiled noobly & with poor developer support will just give users more problem.

CM7 is great honestly but I would say like 95% stable la. If you are adventurous, you should try CM7. A whole new world compared to our normal ones.
*
For Android 2.3 I prefer Touchwiz version over CM7 version.
But for Android 4.0 I think I'll go for CM9 over Touchwiz version.I do not like what I see from the alpha ICS rom from Samsung for SGS II.

Somebody asked whether there's ambient light sensor in SGS II?
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Gal...Teardown/5861/2

Check the disassembly & see yourself on what else sensors are in SGS II.

Piece of free advise bro : Don't mess with girls phones if it's working fine.Drawback will be catastrophic if something went wrong.Speaking from my experience sweat.gif

I'm not pro but fairly good at computers & electronic stuff.Everytime I fix something for girls they'll ask me why it take so long, why you change this & that etc2.
I especially hate messing with Apple devices.Real b**** when it come to messing with iOS.

Linux based devices are much better to play around. One way or another you'll be able to fix software stuff yourself.

@del_Piero10
I think there's rooting method without increasing the SGS II counter.Maybe you can try root your wife's phone with that method, find jkay's tools for your firmware & try flashing that. You might be able to use jkays with your rooted stock rom with this method.

i always do nandroid backup b4 kcau my wife phone huhu....but to be safe, better use Go Launcher coz it can backup ur homescreen settings and also app drawer.even u flash new rom when u restore from TB, everything will restore back in order b4 u flash...if not u might hv to set back ur homescreen, folders again sweat.gif

I guess I'm one of the rare idiot who always mod kamikaze style.I never to any kind of system partition backup whether from my time with Nokia N900 ( god,I miss that phone) & SGS II.Till today I haven't brick my phone after a number of flashing & modding.

Perhaps I should make backup sometimes...

Eh the chequered box thingy in the browser keeps appearing. So so distracting!

Edit: A lot better now after i clear all the ram but it's only using 700+ mb sweat.gif

Use Dolphin Browser (weird name for a browser) if you want less chequered box while browsing.

My fren has g version and I always play with it. I noticed sthg that may be thr reason for the g version waking up faster.

If u dl setcpu for non g and g, u wil notice the lowest default frequency for the non g is 200mhz and for the g, 300.

It may be a cause for the g to respond faster from deep sleep. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
*
Could be.
Try to increase the lowest frequency bit by bit from 200MHz.I think you can push till 500MHz as lowest frequency for best performance after unlock.
