Is it worth the upgrade to 2.3.6 when the 4.0 ICS is around the corner?
I just want to avoid the hassle of Rooting it back. |

QUOTE(Cynox @ Jan 5 2012, 05:30 PM) "around the corner" may take another month or two. use benny's method can upgrade to 2.3.6 without breaking root. Just upgraded mine - my Note feel so much smoother/faster now. Can you show benny's method to upgrade 2.3.6 without breaking root? I can't find it in the 1st page. Thanks.heard others at XDA say yes but i dun have one to try. Sorry - this thread moves so fast... Added on January 5, 2012, 5:51 pm QUOTE(maocheng @ Jan 5 2012, 05:35 PM) http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2073580 I thought the price of Yoobao 11200mAh from eBay is already cheap (RM 206). But yours is much cheaper.this seller claim its ori and RM199 only..anyone can confirm this? The photo looks the same. The price I saw in Low Yat is more expensive. QUOTE(benny888 @ Jan 5 2012, 06:15 PM) It doesn't matter. Try copy it to internal SD this time Benny - Thanks for being very patience to people like myself who will ask another newbie question. Added on January 5, 2012, 6:26 pm Upgrading Msian firmware to 2.3.6 with root and CWM installed : If your phone is not rooted, you have to use ODIN on PC to flash the phone. In odin, just select the tar file as PDA - leave the rest as default. And don't worry, flashing an official stock rom will not increase the flash counter Download the rom file from either sammobile.com or from XDA ( it is the second last item on the list ) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 Once you have flash the phone successfully , use the methods as outline here to root and have CWM installed: Make sure you download the right Chainfire file matching to your phone kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360 Download the appropriate Chainfire kernel file from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784 Once your phone is rooted and withnCWM installed , you can now proceed to use Mobile odin to flash the 2.3.6 Msian firmware : Launch mobile odin Select OPEN FILE - and browse and choose the stock 2.3.6 firmware tar file You will see a listing of all the files selected : kernel, system, data, modem etc etc Replace the kernel file with the CWM extracted tar file ( MUST be in tar format ). DO NOT overextract the file to become zimage. The file extracted one level down should read something like this : example CF-Root-SGN_ZS_MUL_KK1-v5.0-CWM5.tar - note the file extension is tar Select flash firmware TS : please post these instructions at first page. I have been repeating these several times already Ques: I have rooted my 2.3.5. If I just use the Mobile Odin, can I just point this to file which I downloaded from - http://www.hotfile.com/dl/139511343/6f2ad1...L2_XME.zip.html ? Does it mean I will have 2.3.6 and remained rooted? |

Whenever I open Mobile Odin, I will get this message:
"Mobile ODIN requires an add-on to be able to flash firmwares on the device. Please see the thread on XDA to download and install the correct add-on APK" Why? Please help. Thanks. |

QUOTE(benny888 @ Jan 7 2012, 10:20 AM) Easiest and best way : Zergrush exploit Thanks ckyned and benny.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360 You can followup with installing CWM - Clockworkmod recovery. Download the appropriate kernel files based on your kernel from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360 If you have upgraded to latest KL3 - than the above 2 will not work. You need to downgrade to 2.3.5 , say KK1 and use above steps to root. If you want the latest KL3 on your phone, than just follow my method which I have listed in post# 2663 I have downgraded my 2.3.6 to 2.3.5. I saw the thread below and it works easily (Root + CWM). Its quite similar to the threads you showed. Now my device is Rooted + CWM. SOURCE: http://androidforums.com/galaxy-note-all-t...3-n-finish.html Now the question - is it really worth to upgrade the Stock 2.3.6 using Mobile Odin (to maintain the Root) or flash any other Custom Cooked ROMS? |

QUOTE(ckyned @ Jan 7 2012, 11:27 AM) worth it or not, u have to try it yourself. custom rom, there's some advantages like theming, performance tweak etc. plus, if u flash custom rom directly, mostly u have u dont have to worry about root because most of them already rooted. =) No wonder users have bigger external SD card to store a lot more custom ROMS! CWM is come in handy when u want to backup your whole phone. So, let me summarize what I learn about Android tools. 1 - Use ODIN to flash stock ROM 2 - Use Mobile Odin to flash new ROM without the use of PC. 3 - Use CWM to backup and restore ROMs. Any other important utilities? |
