QUOTE(ClericKilla @ Dec 12 2011, 08:12 PM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Hello, Sifu's please give your comments and critiques. For some picture I felt it's underexposed. On my monitor it looks exposed #1 - Background is burned too much(fake vignette) that it looks unnatural. The balloons and people in the background is distracting. Subject composition wise is pretty ok. #2 - Face a lil bit underexposed. A slight dodge would be good. Also the bokeh are really distracting. Must be Canon 50mm f/1.8. Otherwise, it's a nice shot. #3 - Hmmm, composition wise.... a bit weird. Could be the fact that you cut off below her knee. Also more contrast would be nice. #4 - I personally feel for this kinda shot, the subject is too small. Would prefer something like your shot #6 #5 - Other than some points mentioned above, I feel you shouldn't use this angle to capture this kinda expression. #6 - Other than subject expression/pose which kinda feels unnatural, this is a nice shot IMO. #7- Needs more Contrast and exposure editing(dodge/Burn). Somehow I don't feel enough emphasis on the face. #8 - same as #7, but a lot more dull. Improvement on composition and post processing can make your photos look even more awesome. There's no real need for a reflector yet. There are people using 5 reflectors and still produce horrible photos. Also.... I know everyone says how lens doesn't matter and bokeh is all gimicky(which is true in a sense). However, distracting bokeh can definitely cause a good picture to fall. It's easier to not really bother too much about your background and just have them weave into a seamless blob then have them glowing like xmas lights. Backgrounds on most of the pictures are not blur enough for me
Also a underexposed picture does not necessarily mean a bad picture underexposure just gives it a nice dark tone This post has been edited by XpzV15: Dec 12 2011, 10:21 PM |

I really appreciate you commented on every single details about the shoot. It gives me a rough idea how I am gonna shoot next week. The bokeh balls not nice mehh? p;s/ do you think I need to calibrate my monitor already? cus looking from the desktop and laptop two huge difference color. Sometimes it can look really nice(esp night scenes), however sometimes it can be distracting. Eg: #3 people in the background become some distracting distinct blobs As for expression wise, there's no right or wrong as it depends on location/perspective/model lolz. Just keep trying different expression and eventually you'll find those that will fit. As for calibration, I face the same thing too. But I just edit my photos on the "most correct" platform. We often blame our monitors for not being calibrated, but honestly it doesn't matter that much unless you're printing it out. 90% of monitors out there are not calibrated anyway. So even if yours is calibrated, 90% of the people viewing your photos aren't viewing it right. |
