how is the camera control, lock-on targeting feature with just the normal 3DS control scheme holding up so far?
*
There are 2 options for screen display, one is having the features you mentioned with items, mixing items, lock-on on the bottom screen, the other is map, health bar and item screen at the bottom but full hunting screen on top with nothing disturbing you on top. I opt for the latter as the other stuffs on top screen really cramped and affect your hunting on such low res screen on top.

Control wise it's quite bad, without the slide pad at least. I'm used to PSP control where changing angle on upper d-pad, moving on bottom analog stick. I have quickly ordered a slide pad to compensate this while trying to adapt to the new control lay out on 3DS.

No wor, last night I slept at 1, very early by my standard ohmy.gif

Writing FAQ isn't that hard, but translating quests can get a little tricky. I'm still in beginner's quests cry.gif

You need them to upgrade your farm/village, and no, not by slaying sand sharks, nor slaying sea sharks.. Tri veterans will tell you you would need a guide to complete some of the quests. This is not as direct as PSP Monster Hunter sometimes.

I don't know, just shipped yesterday from PA. Never thought the 3DS can be so crampy, and didn't check the d-pad and analog stick location before cry.gif

I also don't know what the local price is tongue.gif

But 1 thing I know I am abit regretting in getting the LE set, it's way too expensive and I'm not a collector type. Normal 3DS will do me just fine, just too impulsive in getting the game and 3DS together sad.gif

Added on December 14, 2011, 12:18 pmBack to MH3G, the more I play the less interesting it is, it's a watered down port from Tri and P3rd so far. Add that to the terrible 3DS control I would say this is not a very interesting MH, although hundreds of hours will still be spent on it. Hope the new bosses can make things more interesting later on.

Ok here's my short review based on the 10 something hours I have put into, before meeting any new monsters nor subspecies.

Graphics: 8
Screen size isn't really a problem with the 3DS, but the 400 x 240 resolution is. Everything in the game is very well animated, in fact the smoothest I have seen in any MH game. However there isn't much details into everything as well, especially the items' icons in the item box. I have no idea how 3d in 3DS works, but in MH it's just different layers of flat polygons displayed on screen instead of something zooming out proportionally. It's really a hit or miss.

Sound: 8
No Pro Logic II support do affect those who usually hunt in surround sound setup environment, which I am. Otherwise the BGM and effects are unusually clear for a Nintendo handheld.

Control: 2
Bad, really bad. The 3DS is just too crampy, the analog stick and L button position are to close to each other. And the upper and lower screen weight balance makes it even worse, making my hands tired after only an hour or so, or immediately if you are in a action filled quest. Hope slidepad can compensate this.

Gameplay: 8 for Tri hunters, 10 for the rest
Everything stays intact, to the original Tri formula. The farm system is very tedious, and free roaming in Moga forest can be extremely frustrating especially in the gamer's climax stage. Random appearance of gathering spots in the map is back, which can be good or bad. I also find out that this game is more generous in accuracy. Something I thought I had missed actually hit, something I failed to aimed actually destroyed that specific part. Good for noobs like me.

That's for 3DS review, not MH3G review sleep.gif

I think it can last me a whole night though, with medium brightness, LAN off and 3d off.

I have tried the touchscreen control but it couldn't solve the issue, may be that's because I'm never good in touch screen to begin with rather the touch control problem.

I do understand some might be able to handle the 3DS better than I do, however I'm just voicing out my problem with the controls based on my own experience. If clawing on the PSP is difficult, then most would find having no finger before the thumb even more difficult unless you are using the touch screen control and actually good at it.
