Arsène Wenger is hopeful of concluding a loan deal to bring Thierry Henry back to Arsenal - but he will do the right thing by the striker's club and the MLS.

The New York Red Bulls star has been training at London Colney since November to maintain his fitness levels and he is now on the cusp of a two-month agreement to rejoin the club at which he made history.

The return of Arsenal's record goalscorer would be one of the stories of the season but Wenger is not jumping the gun.

"Normally it should happen," he said. "You have to respect that there is paperwork to do and the agreement with the Red Bulls and the MLS, but for two months it is certain that it will happen.

"The agreement and the insurance [still needs to be done], I don’t take care of that, but that is not completed and we need to respect all the agreements we need with the MLS to finalise the deal.

"At the moment we cannot announce anything."
