I would prefer Malaysia buy a more advance and deadly RPG30. still on pending for export.
To me we need both anti-tank and MBT. both have own advantage and disadvantages.
of'coz US, UK and Russian would sell a downgraded MBT. no DU armor for example. for Russian as long as you have the money and have no history of stealing reverse engineer their tech you can get their best weaponry systems. anyway key words Money.

it will be a good assets to defend city also able to assault invading enemy with huge punch.
ofcoz MBT have its weakness but does bring huge psychology effect to invading enemy as we are not lacking in firepower.
anyway these is just my opinion on MBT.

different doctrine

APC with big gun is used as tank destroyer and providing direct fire support.but it's no replacement for much more armored MBT.

MBT is chiefly used as spearhead for attack. they move around with infantry(infantry job is to neutralized them enemy anti tank units)

and most APC cannot survive RPG blast(especially them HEAT warhead).the only APC that i know that can withstand RPG is Namer(and it's from the chasis of Merkava).but nowadays APC got some kind of add on protection from RPG ranging from them APS to the el-cheapo slat armor

first you have to look at the mbt doctrine.
either attack of defense is depending on the situation too.

The TD APC is from an old technology, that's why the TD are underway with the AV8 as the replacement for the Condor/Sibmas
