Indonesia buys 37 amphibious tanks from Russia, to be used by the Navy’s Marine Corps. (News)
http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2012/05...nks-russia.html The Defense Ministry signed a deal to buy 37 BMP-3F amphibious tanks from Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport on Friday, to be used by the Navy’s Marine Corps. “We used the Russian state credit facility for this procurement,” the ministry’s Defense Facilities Agency chief Maj. Gen. Ediwan Prabowo said after the signing. Rosoboronexport is the sole Russian state intermediary agency for the export and import of military and dual-purpose products, technologies and services. The procurement contract is worth US$114 million in total, with funding already provided in the 2011 state budget, according to Ediwan. The total procurement cost includes weaponry systems and maintenance, as well as shipment costs and training programs, he said. He also said the Russian firm also agreed to include the transfer of technology in the procurement deal. The Defense Ministry began its negotiations with its Russian counterpart in October last year, after buying 17 of the same tanks in 2008. The first shipment is slated in July 2013.
