Pictures of the Week – Cougar simulator

SHAH ALAM: As part of the Cougar deal, Eurocopter is installing a full-flight simulator for its heavy-lift EC225/725 helicopter family, to be operated by Eurocopter Malaysia at its newly constructed simulation centre

See the release below:
Kuala Lumpur, 30 October 2012
The EC225/725 helicopter full-flight simulator arrived in Malaysia last month, as part of Eurocopter’s global strategy to deploy training capabilities close to customers. Catering to training of pilots and crew operating the EC225 and EC725 in the Asia Pacific region, the full-flight simulator is slated to begin operations in early 2013.

Cougar FFS

With safety being the top priority for Eurocopter, it is the Group’s strategy to establish a network of full-flight simulators around the world to increase the focus on flight safety. The EC225/725 full-flight simulator (FFS) in Malaysia will be Eurocopter’s 20th FFS around the world, and will be located at the Eurocopter Malaysia Simulation Centre (EMSC) – a brand new building erected at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport. Not only does full-flight simulation training increase safety by maintaining and enhancing the skill level of pilots and crew, it also helps to lower customers’ training costs.

Pierre Rossignol, Eurocopter Malaysia President & CEO stated, “Eurocopter has a strong commitment to develop our support and services in Asia. With our significant leadership in the medium-heavy helicopter category especially with the EC225 for offshore operations in Malaysia; as well as the impending arrival of the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s fleet of 12 EC725 helicopters, this country certainly is the perfect location in Asia for the set up of the FFS.”

The EC225/725 FFS is being assembled in the newly constructed EMSC at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport currently. It will commence operations in early 2013 after undergoing certification tests by European Aviation Safety Agency and the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia.

“The FFS will enable us to meet the important need for training of our military and civil customers,” EMSC CEO Bernard Josseaux said. “This huge demand has already provided us with more than 800 training hours secured with Malaysian and Australian offshore operators. Coupled with training for the Royal Malaysian Air Force pilots, we target to train up to 220 pilots next year.”

Manufactured by Spanish simulation company, Indra, the EC225/725 FFS will provide a wide range of training courses including emergency procedures, night flights (night vision goggles), search and rescue, customized military missions such as nap-of-the-earth training, multi-crew cooperation, etc., dedicated to military customers and offshore operators. Most significantly, a detailed visual database covering the entire Peninsular and East Malaysia will be integrated for a truly realistic and highly accurate simulation training.

Leopard-export:

Rheinmetall plans Tank Deal with Indonesia

Exclusive Indonesia had announced the purchase of 100 and Leopard tanks. Triggered it in Germany a guessing game of who should provide the main battle tank According to FTD information comes the combat vehicles from a major order from Rheinmetall. by Gerhard Hegmann Munich

The discussion for months delivery of 100 Leopard tanks to Indonesia is not a transaction between governments, but a Rheinmetall-major order. This FTD learned from industry sources. As it is, the tank project with Indonesia for allegedly 217 million euros is not a traditional government-to-government agreement, as otherwise the resale of ausgemustertem armor material is usually the case.

Guesswork prevails in the industry even where Rheinmetall receives the decommissioned Leopard main battle tank to be delivered to modernize Indonesia. According to data from Indonesia, it will be an upgrade to the model developed by Rheinmetall concept MBT (Main Battle Tank) revolution. Rheinmetall wants to earn it, older Leopard tanks and Marder to upgrade to a modern standard. The Rheinmetall Group has developed an offer and thereby enters into competition with the Leopard main contractor Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW).

At least part of the tank for Indonesia could come from the armed forces, according to experts. Worldwide 16 countries have the Leopard in action, including non-NATO or EU countries. A Rheinmetall spokesman on Tuesday declined to comment on the speculation, "if only for competitive reasons."

The news agency DPA reported that the Indonesian government before the end of the first delivery expected of battle tanks from Germany. "All the political and administrative processes are complete, we are in the production phase," said Deputy Defense Sjafrie Sjamsuddin. The delivery of the 100 Leopard tanks and 50 smaller marten Schützenpanzernd by Rheinmetall should be completed in the first quarter of 2014.

For the export of arms of the Federal Government approval is required. It lies but no request for export of Leopard tanks to remain in Indonesia, a spokeswoman of the Ministry. An application for the delivery of eight test tanks had been withdrawn also.

Philippines to buy five French patrol boats

Philippines to buy five French patrol boats

The Philippines will buy five patrol boats from France for about 90 million euros ($116 million), partly to guard disputed areas in the South China Sea, the coastguard said Tuesday.

Rear Admiral Luis Tuason, the chief of the poorly-equipped coastguard, said one 82-metre (271-foot) ship and four 24-metre (79-foot) patrol craft would be delivered by 2014.

Tuason cited the need for such ships to patrol the rough waters of the South China Sea, which Manila calls the West Philippine Sea.

“When we patrol the West Philippine Sea, we encounter huge waves, turbulent waters so it will be better if we will use bigger ships,” Tuason said in a statement.

Coastguard spokesman Lieutenant Commander Armand Balilo said the larger ship was a “heavy endurance vessel that can be deployed even in bad weather”.

This is the first such ship to be acquired by the coastguard, he added.

Pembelian Helikopter Apache dari AS Ditunda Hingga Anggaran Mencukupi

Karenaya mereka meminta alokasi anggarannya lewan on top.

Seperti diketahui, AS berencana menjual sejumlah heli Apache ke RI.

not that easy, you have to go for a course, para course.
after compete and passing the course usually the candidate have done about 5 to 10 jump for a heli/plane experience.

not in one day but more like a records, iinm if more then 30 you can become a jump master, jump master badge have a star on the top of the parachute.
that means that they are now veteran.
*
you would lose your legs if you did 10 jumps a day

people do around 5 jumps a year to stay current.only the carl G is under restricted use wink.gif

btw,people still count heli insertions?

Expo to showcase Leopard 2, Marder armored vehicles

Novan Iman Santosa, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | World | Wed, October 31 2012, 10:18 AM

The German Leopard 2 main battle tank (MBT) and Marder infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) will highlight the 2012 Indo Defense Expo and Forum, a top defense official said on Tuesday.

“The MBT and IFV will be the icons of the Indo Defense Expo — as we are buying two battalions of the heavy tanks,” Deputy Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said at a press conference ahead of the biennial event.

Sjafrie added that the acquisition of armored combat vehicles would strengthen the posture of the Indonesian Military’s (TNI) minimum essential force (MEF).

He said that the government was buying about 100 Leopard 2 MBTs, 50 Marder IFVs, seven supporting tanks — including bridge, recovery and ambulances — and tank transporters.

“We are buying Leopard 2A4 and Leopard 2 Revolution models that are already modified and have new armaments,” Sjafrie said. “We can use them as soon as they arrive.”

The armored vehicles, bought with a US$280 million foreign loan, will arrive in batches beginning at the end of this year and continue through the first half of 2014.

Indonesia is buying the MBTs from Rheinmetall rather than Krauss Maffei-Wegmann, another maker, Sjafrie said.

As for Indonesia’s indigenous defense products, Sjafrie said the Pindad’s Anoa 6x6 armored personnel carrier would be the star of the event.

He said more participants are taking part in this year’s defense expo, which is already in its fifth edition.

“We have 600 companies from 50 countries in five continents and there will be 25 country pavilions this year. Also attending
will be seven defense ministers as well as defense deputy ministers, defense officials and military chiefs,” he said.

The fifth Indo Defense Expo and Forum will be held on Nov. 7-10 at the Jakarta International Expo in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, the event anticipates 20,000 visitors.
