The Defense Ministry signed a deal to buy 37 BMP-3F amphibious tanks from Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport on Friday, to be used by the Navy’s Marine Corps.

“We used the Russian state credit facility for this procurement,” the ministry’s Defense Facilities Agency chief Maj. Gen. Ediwan Prabowo said after the signing.

Rosoboronexport is the sole Russian state intermediary agency for the export and import of military and dual-purpose products, technologies and services.

The procurement contract is worth US$114 million in total, with funding already provided in the 2011 state budget, according to Ediwan.

The total procurement cost includes weaponry systems and maintenance, as well as shipment costs and training programs, he said.

He also said the Russian firm also agreed to include the transfer of technology in the procurement deal.

The Defense Ministry began its negotiations with its Russian counterpart in October last year, after buying 17 of the same tanks in 2008. The first shipment is slated in July 2013. (mtq)

Multirole can do air superiority while air superiority can't do multi-role

AV8 is not buy but make + APC have a different role and doctrine then MBT, try to google the cost of RND Myvi and Preve to get some idea!

seriously getting tired with explaining this!
*
but then u will only be superior to really inferior planes wor... 1 gen ago.. not within the same gen...

whoa, make apc.. got market to sell meh? worth it?
QUOTE(yinchet @ May 15 2012, 11:04 AM)
Malaysia is paying for the development cost and Tot of PARS.
Mindef is too ambitious on AV8 development.
They are developing 12 variant in 1 go. each variant need at least USD100mil to develop. 12 of them it would be at least USD1.2bil.
let not forget the USD559mi for 257units AV8 hull.

Very expensive way to start a program you might said.

or very good way to siphon $$$?

Air Superiority usually can't do a bombing mission as you can see with MIG29, but Multirole can do several mission including bombing run, precise bomb mission maritime strike and etc

Their avionics for air superiority are far advance and the sensor and system on board the plane is a state of the art of an equipment.

ok here this.
The avionics system of MKM is the best in the Sukhoi series even acknowledge from Irkut itself due to the integration of Europe, Russian and several more technology making this plane far superior in air mission.
and the plus side is

It can do bombing mission too..

This can be see during last year Ex-Paradise where MKM participate in bombing exercise in Land and Sea
*
so our su 30 mkm can win f15sg, j11, su27? if vs each other...?

Indonesia Army chooses German tanks over Dutch
Bagus BT Saragih, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | National | Mon, July 02 2012, 8:31 PM

The Indonesian Army has decided to procure up to 100 refurbished Leopard 2A6 main battle tanks (MBT) worth US$280 million from Germany and ruled out previous plan to buy similar tanks from the Netherlands, Deputy Defense Minister Lt. Gen. (ret) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said on Monday.

“We chose Germany because we can have certainties in terms of time of procurement and volume to meet our needs,” Sjafrie told a press conference at his office. “We have stopped the ongoing processes with the Netherlands to let us focus on the procurement from Germany.”

The government would use foreign loans for the procurement, he added.

The Dutch government previously had issues with its parliament in the procurement plan, mainly considering alleged rampant human rights abuses in Indonesia.

The first 15 MBTs are expected to arrive in Indonesia in October. The remainders would gradually arrive until the middle of 2014, Sjafrie said.

The Indonesian Army said it needed to modernize its weapons systems with MBTs because it only had light tanks such as the British-made Scorpion and French-made AMX13, which weighed 8 and 14 tons respectively. The Leopard 2A6 MBT each weighs well over 60 tons. (nvn)

TNI-AD is going to operate one of the most advance MBT in South East Asia.

Embarrassment as Chinese frigate runs aground
July 13, 2012 (Fri) - 3:22PM

A Chinese warship has run aground while patrolling contested waters adjacent to the Philippines in the South China Sea.

The frigate pinned itself to a reef last night at Half Moon Shoal, on the south-eastern edge of the Spratly Islands, and remains "thoroughly stuck", according to Western diplomatic sources shortly after midday local time, or 2pm AEST.

Salvage operations could be diplomatically challenging, given the vessel appears to have run aground within 200 kilometres of the Philippines coast, which is squarely within what Manila claims to be its Exclusive Economic Zone.

The stricken People's Liberation Army Navy vessel, believed to be No. 560, a Jianghu-class frigate, has in the past been involved in aggressively discouraging Filipino fishing boats from the area.

The accident could not have come at a more embarrassing moment for the Chinese leadership, who have been pressing territorial claims and flexing the country's muscle ahead of a leadership transition later this year.

Today's meeting of the Association of South-East Asian Nations in Cambodia ended in disarray, without a code of conduct for resolving conflicts in the South China Sea, following robust intervention from China.

Also this week, China yesterday dispatched one of its largest-ever fishing expeditions from Hainan Island to another disputed archipelago in the South China Sea.

Earlier in the week, PLA generals and top foreign policy advisers urged China to do more to press its claims.

Cui Liru, president of the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, a leading think tank that reports to the main intelligence department, said Beijing had previously focused too much on seeking common ground with its neighbours and putting disputes on the shelf.

"In the foreseeable future, say at least in five years, the Asia-Pacific region will still be showing every feature of a transitional period, which is characterised by a certain level of chaos," he said.

China's ministry of foreign affairs was not immediately available for comment.

Zahid Hamidi confident M4 carbines can be locally made
Published: 30 July 2012  Monday | 7:03:00 PM MYT
KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry is confident that the 200,000 units of the M4 carbine slated to replace the currently in used M16 can be manufactured locally.

Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the confidence was based on a transfer of technology agreement between a local company and a company in the United States, enabling 85% of it to be manufactured locally.

"For a start, 11,000 units have been produced, tested and approved for domestic use next year," he said after chairing a meeting of the Malaysian Industry Council For Defence, Enforcement and Security (MIDES) on Monday.

He said the production of the M4, a very light medium size weapon with semi-automatic and three-round bursts shooting modes, would not be limited to the army but would also be used by other security agencies in the country.

Compared to the M16 which was first used in Malaysia in 1976, M4 had a heavier barrel and could ensure sustained bursts of fire.

On MIDES, Ahmad Zahid said the three-hour meeting also discussed improvements in advancing the information and communication technology (ICT) industry especially on cyber security.

"We are still at the low end in the ICT industry and will carry out smart partnerships with ICT companies to develop several enforcement equipment to face cyber warfare," he said.

Nevertheless, he said the ministry would not seek an increase to its allocation in the 2013 Budget. - Bernama
