Just noticed a very distinctive behavior from my baby. Had happened few times but will continue to observe if it's really the case.
Everyone knows that sugar gliders just can't control their bowel. However, my Kyilala will show sign when she's about to let go. She'll normally wake up ard 10pm and will stay on me quitely. Den out of a sudden she'll be very very active trying to escape from me. Den I will normally put her into the ferret ball( I cant let her roam around as my place is not glider proof ). Once I place her inside, she will freeze for a moment and den I will find pee and poop in the ball. After i take her out from the ball, she will be quite and sweet again... First I thought maybe she freezes and stays quite again after the ferret ball coz she thought tat'd be a punishment? But no, she normally enjoy her ferret ball very much, roaming the house freely. Anyone encounter anythg similar b4? |

I started with 1 glider because I'm afraid I can't handle 2 at the same time. Now that my glider is stable, I'm going to get a partner for her (same gender).
I have 1 concern. Since they feed at night when we are asleep, and we caged them together, how can we be sure that they are feeding correctly? My current 1 really loves HPW. If I put 2 portion of HPW I'm sure she will sapu all then the new baby wont get any. If I put alot of HPW to make sure both of them have enough den I'm pretty sure the current 1 will fill her stomach with HPW only and wont touch the fruits and vege. How? |

I have a female glider about 6months old for 2months now and I just got a new female glider about 2months OOP 2days ago. When I brought the new female home, she seems to be afraid and crab a lot, that's fine. I never intend to introduce them quickly but it appear that I don't even have to try, both of them get along perfectly well after spending 1 day in separated caging.
Now the problem is, when I let them play together, the smaller female would lick the larger female genital to stimulate urine and she would drink the pee. I'm worried. She wouldn't drink fresh water that I offer to her through syringe nor bottle. I still separate them only let them play together when I'm around. What should I do? |

Yesterday saw a glider at a pet store near my place. Alone, stale apple, pine shave bedding, no pouch to sleep, no water supply. The joey can't even sleep because it is placed directly at the front door, so bright and the shop is still having reno going on. Crazy shop owner. Since the new law for animal abuse is passed, anyone know how can I log a report to get the shop raided? We need to start doing something for these poor souls.

QUOTE(qinwen88 @ Mar 8 2013, 01:28 PM) I have just bought a sugar glider (female) a month ago.. She is active in night and being piggy at day.. I have my gliders for half a year now. Not pro as well. One thing for sure, each glider is very unique on their own.The seller told me to give 1/8 piece of apple and the sugar glider pallet everyday should be enough for her daily intake and mention that those supplement is just for extra treat for her. My sugar glider pellet So, I checked on the web there are some supplement can be provided such as Alcacia gum( i had bought for her) which is one of the imp supplement for them. However, after read this thread, I wonder what is the daily appropriate food intake for a sugar glider? I don't understand the HPW diet.. can anyone explain? Then, how do i make the food for them? Can anyone explain the exact ingredients needed? Besides, other than food.. the barking.. she bark during the midnight.. i checked the food still got.. water got.. everything look fine.. but she barking once i sleep back.. The following is the SG sound information i found. Just for share.. Sugar Glider Sound Thanks you.. I feed HPW complete because I don't have blender to make my own HPW. I can say its the best food you can give to the gliders (for me at least). After 3-4weeks of constant feeding, I can see their fur improved a lot. Very soft and very firm. And they love it. I don't feed any insects (insects are hard to take care and my wife hates them), so I use chicken meat and egg as the alternative. Microwave is a very good helper in preparing their daily food. You can easily make scrambled egg within a minute. I only give meat or egg once every 2-3days. Fruits and vege still their main diet. I also give boiled spaghetti and cooked rice once in awhile as their carbo alternative. Sugar cane (can buy from pasar malam uncle, 1 small segment and cut into small sticks) occasionally for their biting urge, they love it too. Yogurt drop is like their ganja. Its the treat to cheer them up whenever they are emo Even though I'm feeding HPW, I still mix some calcium to their food once a week. Hind-leg paralysis is no joke. I don't give them pellet or dried food. I'm not sure but this is my case: I got my first glider and I thought it would be more convenient to give pellet and dried food so I include some pellet in her daily diet. After some times she got really brownish and stained. Most of the source suggest that is normal. Then, there's once I stopped giving her pellet because some source suggest that it is not good because they are sap sucker and dried food is really hard for them to ingest. Then I notice her fur stopped getting more stained. When I got my second glider, I never gave her a single pellet. Her fur maintained clean and white until now. Unfortunately the brownish stuck with my first glider and it is irreversible. Some source suggest that color is merely their gene and stuff. I'm not sure. My gliders bark whenever they want my attention. Sometimes I can calm them by simply walk to the cage and talk to them. Sometimes need to play with them. If I'm too tired, then I'll just bring them out walk 1 round and put them back they also happy. They just need attention. Oh yeah... some says that gliders are more likely to bark during full moon. I have been noticing this for few months now but I'm not suggesting that this is the same for every glider. |

qinwen,
Daily food: 1-2 types of vege 2-3 types of fruits HPW ( 1 teaspoon for each ) protein and carbo on alternate days Protein: chicken meat/egg (scrambled, boiled both fine. I prefer scrambled because they cannot picky between yolk and white) Carbo: Rice, potato, spaghetti or any carbo you can think of some treats (dried fruit, goji, yogurt drop) fruit juice occasionally (sugar cane, cranberry juice, honey dew) I came across this source to prepare frozen food. U can try try: http://nchfp.uga.edu/how/freeze.html I have 2 types of fruits frozen in the fridge. So I dont have to prepare many other types of fresh food evyday. Remember to defrost before feeding to gliders. The diet I prepare might not be the best though. 1 tips for new keeper, you can know they like the food when they chirp like crazy when eating. The red spot u have is from the sharp nail I guess. Do u trim the nail? I think u r doing fine in bonding. Mine took about 3months to only not running away from me. My glider only will come to me at night when they are wide awake, I will let them play on my body only when they are out of cage and now they used to it ady. They wont bother me during day time and would even crab at me when they dowan me disturb them sleeping. I assume u r only keeping 1 now? Planning to get a partner for it? Having a partner will greatly reduce the need for attention. Hope these help. |

QUOTE(qinwen88 @ Mar 15 2013, 09:19 PM) Wow.. TQ for ur info.. Don't worry about the portion. U'll never get it right. They happy happy can finish anythg u can throw in the plate. How do u adjust the fruits and vege quantity for daily intake? I don't know whether we have bond created.. But she still not willing to come to me automatically. Besides, I wish to made the sleeping pouch for her but I don't know where can get the material. Do you have any recommend shop? I found this website tat show the sickness symptom of SG. May this will help us all to get know and prevent it. 1. Sugar Glider Sickness Symptom 2. Sugar Glider health If they x suka, not even a biji they will touch. I think 1 month is still quite short. Be patient. Bonding is not an event. Its a process. The longer it is the better it will be. My glider still not coming to me when I call them. But when they are startled then I'm the shelter they are looking for. About sickness. The diarrhea is the most deadly thing that happens in a short time. Pay attention to their poops and the fur around they butt. If the poops are runny and watery or the fur is wet(indicate tat the poops had been runny) bring them immediately to a vet. The rest of the sickness will take some time to develop. And when they happen, it is quite visual. A medical check up every six months is suffice. I'm not sure if there's any other sickness that will happen suddenly, if there is, anyone can help point it out? From time to time, do some self inspect. Check for wounds, hair loss, or anythg. Weight them, measure them to make sure the body weight did not drop. Rule of thumb, always refer to a vet if doubt. |

QUOTE(qinwen88 @ Mar 16 2013, 02:07 PM) I bought the HPW complete for her, the instruction of the HPW complete is 1/2 teaspoon mix with 1 tablespoon water and a sugar glider need 1.5 tablespoon per day. I am very confusing in mixing the HPW with water or fruits with the measurement. It state the 1 pack of HPW complete can supply a sugar glider for around 2 months but base on the measurement given, I feel like it cannot last for even 1 month. Totally missed ur concern on HPW complete. The recommended 1.5 tablespoon for 1 glider is the after mixed HPW. A pack of 200gm(by calculation) should last quite some time.Let's see the calculation below: 1 pack of HPW complete = 200 grams. 1 teaspoon = 5 grams. 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoon = 15 grams. 1.5 tablespoon = 4.5 teaspoon = 22.5 grams. 200grams / 22.5 grams (per day intake) = 8.88 ~ 9 days. If say it can last for 2 months then the calculation below for a daily intake should be 200grams / 60days = 3.33 grams It is a big different.. If follow the instruction only can last for 9 days as calculate. So I wonder is my misunderstanding on the instruction or?? I don't know exactly how much do I need to give my chuchu per day. Besides, I wish to made the sleeping pouch for her but I don't know where can get the material (fleece). Do you have any recommend shop? I'm using Bugsy HPW complete, by ur description, I assume is ChubbyPetsGarden? I'm not sure about how to mix for that brand. The 1 I using suggest to mix 1part of HPW with 3parts of water. And feed 1teaspoon a day. And I can mix alot and freeze them up using ice tray, 2cube is about 1 teaspoon for the tray i'm using. So still consider very convenient for me. My babies sleeping pouch is 1 of my singlet(my favorite 1 unfortunately). They loved it so much so I dont bother changing lor. About the material i cant give suggestion le... should be available at those DIY shop for fabric stuff 1 gua... |

I just got a male the other day. 10months old, he is now at crazy marking stage. I could not bear the smell. I tried washing the cage everyday only leaving the pouch unwash yet his marking is unbearable.
Anyone has a good deodorant spray to recommend? |

Constipation :-
- A glider would have constipation if it doesn't take enough fruits and water. The usual signs are seen when a glider hisses when it is defecating or pooing. Treatment : A teaspoon of pure apple juice twice a day would cure this. |

Just a quick share, gliders might bark you out of hunger. One of my babies is really picky at food. There was few occurrence that she barks non stop in the night. No matter I pet her, play with her still the same. I couldn't find the cause(the food I gave is definitely more than enough for them). Later I found out that she would only barks if she dislike the food I give that day, coz she isn't eating any of it.

Always approach with the back of your hand. He will feel less threatened and even if he strike, he will not able to inflict much damage because the surface is wide and their mouth cannot fit in for a bite.

A tips for male gliders' owners. To reduce the bald spot on the males' forehead, clean the patch with wet towel frequently. The bald patch is caused by the oil produce at the scent patch. Hair + oil = no hair
My 1yr old horny male still have very handsome head with no bald spot. This post has been edited by pin86: Oct 10 2013, 12:23 PM |

QUOTE(jobneed @ Oct 22 2013, 01:50 AM) Hi thanks for the advise, Well I wanted to adopt 2 but my gf does not allow and scare there is no time for 2. So i will be getting a wheel for him soon. And currently my SG doesnt really run away from me but will smell my hand BUT sometimes he will bites me Getting 2 won't make u spend more time And this weekend i will clean up my bed room to SG proof, should i allow my SG to go free when my SG still not very bond with me? But u really need to consider whether getting a male or female. Male is smelly when they are sexually matured and male + male = not good. If female then u need to consider whether to neuter the male otherwise u have to make sure u can take care of babies. When I have my first glider, she likes to bite and wrestle my finger, some sort of entertainment for her. And some suggest that's an act of boredom. But once I got a second glider, she doesn't do that anymore. Bite or nib, there's a different. If it was a fierce bite, then u have to take it but be smart, dun offer finger tip, offer the back of the hand. Also if it is a bite because u r too rough with him, then just be gentle. If nib, then he might be hungry, bored, or he's trying to groom u. Either case, it means something, u should not ignore. My younger glider used to strike me fiercely before we bond. Now she still bite me, hard, if she is hungry. The older sister will nib my finger cuticles trying to groom me. Miss those days she wrestle with my finger |
