I am a reasonably heavy push mail user (3 accounts) with some light activity on fb/twitter/gtalk/msn/whatsapp and my 9790 can last me the whole day (7am to 11pm) with 3g enabled and about 15mins of calls and 5-10 smses per day. What is your phone's os version and do share your actual daily usage pattern?

Update your OS. I am running 7.1 Bundle 1648 (v7.1.0.523), with battery saving mode always enabled (new feature in 7.1).

My usage is not very different than yours, I don't BBM (no BB friends) but I whatsapp quite a bit and perhaps I receive a bit more email than you do, per day. My phone is almost always set to the loudest ringtone/notification setting with vibrate enabled. I only set to vibrate only when in the cinema or in a meeting.

I have a powerbank also, just in case. But usually my 9790 has enough juice to keep me connected and online from 7+ am to 11pm on 3G - I only use 2G when I am outside for longer than an hour (e.g meeting a customer or out hiking). I am guessing our usages are very different.

My usage today based on data from BB Device Analyzer.

Still having 60+% battery left at 7pm, from 100% at 7am. On Digi 3G connection, based in the office for almost the whole day which explains the high wifi usage, I guess.

Go to Options / Device / Advanced System Settings and then type ALT+BBDA.

My 9790 is running OS 7.1.0.569 and Whatsapp 2.8.198 - no lag here.

Generally speaking, I'm a bit disappointed with the battery life on the newer OS7 devices - RIM's supplying tiny capacity batteries all in the name of thinness which I feel is the wrong priority for a company focused on enterprise-level communication and true push notification.

My 9790 can easily last the whole day (I charge every night so I've never used a full charge longer than a day) on 2G with heavy usage.. but with moderate usage, it can last 7am-10pm on 3G. I am still looking for a compatible extended battery though, found 2 options claimed to not require cloning but I am uncertain if they work with OS7.1.

Pricey?? It's USD9.90 for the 1500mah battery and USD11.99 for the 3600mah battery. Cheaper than the Sun-Global battery. I've ordered 1 unit of the 3600mah batt with bundled fat battery cover. Not really bothered about the NFC antenna for now because no one I know is actually using NFC.

Anyway, I've had a bad experience with SG on my Torch 9810 - the SG battery fit so damned tight that I needed to damage the phone's battery bay with a knife to pull the battery out. And anyway, it didn't really give me significantly longer battery life compared to the ori battery.

I engaged the seller in a live chat session and asked for a single unit order. Assuming I'm not conned, the battery should arrive within 3 weeks.

Added on August 7, 2012, 1:56 pmI bought the 3600mah batterry with cover. It's supposedly able to work without having to clone the batt, which I doubt. I also suspect that OS7.1 is more sensitive to non-ori batteries compared to OS7.0 but it's a risk I'm willing to take for less than RM40. In any case, I paid via paypal - exactly USD11.99. Shipping is free but it'll take 3 weeks or so to arrive.

Best feature so far, the battery doesn't need cloning

Am thinking the batt is too fat to my liking, perhaps I will sell it off and go for the smaller 1500mah batt from the same CN seller.

Pretty hardcore, this fat 3600mah battery. My phone's been off the charger since 7am (100%) and it's now still having 76% at 6pm (after 11 hours). Wifi and BT enabled, but both not active - I've been on Digi 3G all day long.

Yes, some 3rd party batteries need to be recloned at every boot and some don't work at all with os7.1.

Gives me more than enough juice for 2 days on 3G. Generally, I still charge my phone every night but the extra power allows me to go on my evening hikes (+- 1 hour) with GPS on and tracking enabled using Runtastic Pro app without having to worry about battery life like with the ori 1230mah battery.

You don't have BIS, no push mail, no social networking and no instant messaging? The Torch 9860 has a higher res and larger display, faster processor than the Bold 9790 but the same capacity battery. I guess with your usage, the Bold 9790 should last the same or longer on a full charge.

I believe 9860 and 9790 use the same battery.

You can always manually download the latest update, install it on the PC, delete all instances of vendor.xml then connect your phone to the PC and use the Desktop Manager to update the phone. Google this, I don't have the guide URLs offhand.
