UNifi might be having quota real soon. Maxis right now set it earlier. Quota quite large i think.

Im sure you have a lot of frens who use unifi. Ask them how is it so far. Ask for the downtime, the speeds, stability, connection....if you know anyone who uses the maxis ftth, check and see how is it according to the same agenda. Of all the telco brands, maxis is pretty okay. Just do more research and find out more from people who are actually using it and you'll be fine.

Maxis will be launching a new IPTV services soon next year.

About the quota, they'll do a "rombakan" of packages that time to equally match of best Unifi's when time comes.

Coverage wise, they have beaten TM to it already because after signing the 10yrs contract with HSBB, Maxis coverage is always more than TM.

Maxis = HSBB coverage + their own built network
TM = HSBB coverage only

Smart eh?

Equipment provided also way higher quality comparable to Singapore ISPs.

If you subscribe to the higher end 10mbps package an above, you get a Technicolor HGW with cordless phone on dock. The cordless phone got color screen with animated weather report LCD screen. (not sure if the function is provided)

If Maxis offer free 1GB data for your mobile/ipad when signed up, I sure take it. But no... and you still gotta wait for them to launch the TV etc, sign up with Unifi for two years and later see how Maxis is doing lor.

sign up with unifi online got 1 mth free ...

but crappy tm unifi router, later time u probably would buy 3rd party router to replace it.

maxis then no 'monopoly' on specific router right? then can use existing router for it.

anyway, all down to line performance & quota such matter.

No, because they rent TM Unifi's network, they are also subjected to similar type settings as Unifi.

So setup is similar but they supply different router brands. ONU(fibre modem) I believe is still the same as Unifi.

Admit it. Can you disclose how much TM is paying you to sing their song?

Nowadays their agents are all out desperate for business until willing to accept applications through phone and receive faxed copies of ICs. doh.gif

Why not after a gloomy 3Qs of miserable reporting.

Many companies are now trying to make things attractive in the last 4Q reporting so sharholsers won't make noise. If shareholders are not happy with results, the management boards might get firing and probably lose their jobs for not coming up with results.

Expect lots of false reporting and touchups here and there with their reporting..

Guys I'm having the same dilemma too. Currently I'm using Streamyx (under company registration) but I need to switch to personal account soon. Should I maintain with Streamyx or switch to Unifi??
With Unifi, I was told that I no longer need to pay for the RM26 monthly rental for the phone. So with the cheapest Unifi package at RM149, it's not much difference when compared to Streamyx (RM88+26) & with better speed & stability + TV channels.

Please choose Unifi over Streamyx if you have both options. No brainer choice and does not even need any evaluation.

Streamyx 4M Plan - RM140
No IPTV, 300kbps upload, unrealiable

For just RM9 more,
You have free cable tv, equal upload speed and higher bandwidth priority.

Thanks for the quick response. Can I use my existing router (ASUS RT-N12) with Unifi? Is there any other hidden cost besides the RM149 monthly package? I believe there's no monthly phone rental.

Unifi lar. MAXIS SUCKS max. Nowadas, TM support is really good (they come fix my Streamyx problem even on Sunday after i reported on Saturday), MAXIS still sucks shitz. Furthermore, MAXIS is riding on TM UNIFI HSBB...u think thy can offer better plan than TM?? TM UNIFI currently don't have cap....MAXIS already definitlely cap. So which do u think is better? Not to mentioned HPPTV and free local land calls.

TM all the way.

Riding on TM Unifi HSBB? That's only the last connection connecting you from the local exchange to your home.

Maxis international connectivity is handled by NTT MSC a Japanese telecom giant. They have also not implemented cap yet just like Unifi.
If they feel they need to compete against TM further next year, they'll extend the free usage without uota it as long as they like.

If you ask me the best ISP so far that claims they don't have cap or speed throtlling is TIME or ASTRO IPTV.Somemore got free 30 hours 50mbps boost.

Maxis = HSBB coverage + their own built network
TM = HSBB coverage only

Truth is I haven't find a perfect ISP in Malaysia who is honest and dependable.

That includes TM or Maxis. Jaring is also joining their ranks while I can't comment on Time because they don't serve my area.

Frankly speaking, being a Unifi user myself, I would recommend you to go for Maxis. They have great customer service personnels and, I would prefer the free minutes to Maxis mobile feature compared to land lines. Everyone's moving towards mobility now and calling land lines?? That's so yesterday (just my 2 cents, no point flaming me over this). Maxis piggy back riding TM? It's just last mile la friend.. Maxis' got better coverage over TM.

Maxis Fibre has quota. but so far the speed is really fast and stable. But dun forget the factor that it has very low congestion so their technology is able to deliver. Not sure about their installation costs compared to some cases for unifi. Its best to see if its smooth in your area before you make any decision.

Don't you think the telcos are playing with the minds of consumers? To get them to sign up early, tie them in before they are imposed with the volume quota?

Anyone of them can implement quotas inside their registration forms but they can choose to extend the FREE use until when they like.

You think Maxis, Jaring or TIME is stupid to make themselves lose out to Unifi in implementing their quotas early? That'll only give them a disadvantage.

So next year they might even extend it as LONG as Unifi retains their NO QUOTA use to go all out in competing. Depending on who meets their targeted aim, Unifi will be at the disadvantage if they continue on adding subscribers but their service quality degrades.

Cost a side, Which one is more stable? I know my Streamyx is down at least once a month and the poor customer service will have to deal with my colourful vocabulary.

I don't care about price and I want reliability which one should I do with?

Currently Maxis home fiber internet plan had cut down to two plan from previously four plan for choosing. The current plan is either 10 Mbps or 30 Mbps. the download limit is now being set to unlimited until further notice and previously the download limit is 100GB and 300GB respectively.

Furthermore, Maxis is now waive the installation fees worth RM200 until 30 June 2012.

monthly fees for 10 Mbps is drop to RM118 at this moment and 30 Mbps is remain the same.

From my point of view, Maxis can offer such low rate may not due to the internet speed and stability. This could because of the cost for the product is reduce as Maxis is now only offer two plan for the market compare to Unifi three plan.

Moreover, internet speed and the stability could be same or similar for both Unifi and Maxis. This is because both company plan is same using optical fiber as the connection medium even Maxis is under Unifi coverage.

It seem that now both of the product is similar to each other, the next thing that draw the market consideration would be on the customer service. In the past few years, TM is constantly having negative feedback from the customer on their customer service and after-sale service while Maxis is having positive feedback toward their service.

I am Maxis broadband user since few years ago, when every time I encounter certain technical challenges and I dial up to Maxis customer service, they can fixed it within hours rather than days and the telephonist has good courteous. This shown how Maxis care about their customer.

From my experience i am very afraid of maxis. They tend to change things when they feel like without informing customers. They will tell you read your contract it stated they can change . Currently its cheap because they do not have sufficient customers. When they have they will start to change again.

From my experience of streamyxs then UNIFI even their customer service is alittle slower i never had any issue with their billing.

Streamyx till now unlimited
Now Unif still unlimited

For me i better stay with UNIFI.

Nah telekom coverage is wide and stable unlike maxis, jaring and other telco. The question is if telekom can sustain can maxis and other telco provider survive that long?

comission quite high for successful application le. I did offer to an agent 4 lines to subscribe my only request is prepare a comparison and summary for why i should switch to UNIFI and the comisson is his. He ask me to refer the brochure. End up i just get my pa to do everything

And the main problem bothering me... Quota. Quite heavy download/surfer. Last time I saw unifi ads, no quota. Recently, have. Maybe they will implement the quota very soon. Just stick to streamyx? Hm...

i will only say maxis would be better. if they don't share the same infra with tm. then we can actually benchmark them both.

but most importantly you should consider. is good after sales services & resolution. either one of them can do better.

First Unifi ad also got quota. There was a terrible uproar and almost everyone was out to sabotage. Lesson: we just need to voice out our disapproval.

do you know how maxis got their price to around rm118 ?

10mb/13mb x rm149 = rm114 ...almost rm118

with maxis home fibre you get pure 10mbps internet access for rm118...

with unifi you're actually paying for 13mbps where you can't actually use the 8mbps because it is used for hypp tv. in short, they are packaging something that would not have been sold otherwise.... that's why you get only 5mbps.... for rm149...

that's also why maxis dare to offer 10mbps for rm118, becoz they don't package it with something useless...
