last time i heard print novel about rm 20k for 1000 copies... not sure about that anyway, because is what i heard from my housemate
however after print if you plan put at popular or mph, they might charge to 40-50% of the book price as thier profit, so you see the book price rm50 not because the book is expensive, but is because the sharks takes the big cuts.
my housemate fren dint go for mph/popular route, they open a press con to launch thier book and ask those cooperation big guy come, in the name of charity (the book about disability of children), those big guns almost wipe all the book at the press con, so they regain capital and can choose either print again or else
where did your friend keep the 1000 copies at first?

How about if u tested your comics first before put all your money into it.
Probably u can scan whatsoever your comics few pages (put watermark) and publish it lets say in blogs...
then promote your blogs using FB bla bla bla..

Tried already. Now it's physical production.

I don't think TS is asking about printing, but more on publishing the book and how to distribute it.
My answer to TS question on RM15K is sufficent is Yes and No. If TS intended to publish a comic book entirely without advertising revenue (e.g, Dragonball, Doraemon), the answer probably is no. The cost doesn't stop at print itself, but promotion will wipe out nearly 1/3 of your budget, not to mention profit sharing on cover price. You will get back a fraction of your cost. If you are publishing the above genre, I suggest that you paired with reputable publisher of such genre (e.g, ArtSquare, another one in PJ, around P1 building) or if you are into comic with editorial, revenue from advertising space, the answer is a big NO.
the concern to go with local publisher is they will own the copyrights and/or other rights. profit is not the top priority.

you might want to consider this local printing company
http://www.xprint.co/, in fact, in the area of this printing company (in sri kembangan, there are many other printing companies)
ok but i found that the standard size is either A4 (too big) or A5 (too small). thanks anyway.
