Hey, I'm planning to get some bettas too. They look really colorful. Do they need a big tank/space?
*
colorful? not exactly. usually a single color or dual color.

those with awesome stuff colors (eg from breeders) - prepare to pay a hefty sum for it.

Bettas do not need big tank space BUT they look really nice in big tanks.

please DO NOT put your betta with other fish unless you know what you're doing. If you put them with nippers, then you can say bye bye to their tails.

On the other hand if you put other flowing tail fishes (eg goldfish) - the goldfish may get some really hostile treatment. tongue.gif

On small tanks (eg glass jars) - it is advisable to change water every 2 - 3 days, especially if you're into keeping the fins nice (eg crowntail, halfmoon, yada yada ........) - once curled, too bad la.

Care is simple but if you're going to pro-level eg competition grade and such, it can be really tedious.

They're very rewarding fish to care. Just put them in your room, and when you walk in you'll see the fella swim towards you.

haur nice colors but the coloration still looks like have a few generations to go. biggrin.gif

lonewold1205 now I haven't follow up on where to get PK's in Klang Valley for ages. Donno the usual breeders still have or not.

I love PKs, I find they're more forgiving. Like CT for example, miss a day of water change and I see some curl already. sad.gif

donno how the treatment is like.

the safest way is to just put the water in a huge pail, and leave it to rest for a few days (not open air). That should clear the chlorine or any other chemicals.

bought a small HOB filter from Sisaiko aqua. item reached me on 2nd day yo  rclxm9.gif
how's the flow rate?

IMO betta tanks need not HOBs or any filter.

bettas like still waters, the hobs often give quite some current, depending on the water flow.

quite low, only affects the water around the dropping of the waterfall.
but if set on highest setting he cant even swim properly  sweat.gif
off-topic. if ever HOB flowrate affects fish swimming - just put a plastic plant to diffuse the water impact and flow. biggrin.gif

Depend to fish species..some need high flowrate...u can use java moss to diffuse water flow too...
yeah well anything actually. java moss so low in height, it still needs to be on drift wood.

anyway I'm referring to betta la. yes. some fish love flowrate, danios for example.

Yeah I wanna know too because I too have not seen any pretty HM around.. wonder why
Haven't seen any proper Betta around.

It's not about the fins alone, have to see the colors and the body structure.

4 days can ah?
any good weekend food to recommend? the one i bought is called "Tropical weekend food", my fish refused to eat  sad.gif
4 days I'm sure it will still be alive.

But 4 days is enough to see the fins curl and you can't fix that. sad.gif This is especially true especially if you're having like say a half moon or crown tail and they are kept in small aquarium.

For betta, I think I fed them bloodworms. Been quite a while since I kept any.
