Heloo I just bought my betta yesterday. Mine is actually a community planted tank of albino corydoras and neon tetra. today I added in some ghost shrimp too.

I know that people always say do not mix betta with anything because it's aggressive but my betta, YC (NAMED AFTER MY BF LOL) seems very comfortable with others. He doesn't chase nor flare at other fishes even when they are right beside him.

I actually bought him out of sympathy. He looked really depressed in the small bottle in my LFS. I know that betta CAN live in small containers and all but I believe if they had a choice they'd live in a much open area. I wouldn't be happy if I'm living in a small prison either.

I have no idea what type my betta is but he's not the short-tailed one.

anybody sells fighting fish here? im planning to buy two, along with aquarium. anyone?

I never had any luck taking pictures of my fish. How do you guys get those amazing shots?! It's either too dark and I can't use flash because of the reflects or the fishes just choose to swim when I'm taking pictures of them.

SERIOUSLY does the betta knows i'm taking his pictures?! Everytime I dont he sits still but when I do he just choose to swim around

Is there such thing as fake betta =_= my dad says that betta likes it at the top of the aquarium and they are aggressive but my betta is the opposite. He seemed to enjoy swimming between the plants at the bottom of the aquarium. my dad said i bought a sissy betta

as for the picture, his tail and fins get broader when he stops but he just wouldn't stop =/ so the fin actually look broader than this.

tell ur dad, this is not fighting fish, tis is show betta, we dont use this kind of fish to fight but to enjoy their beauty.. btw, dont tell them how much it is otherwise they will just shoot u with last time they catch at longkang or only buy at rm1-2.. ><!!

based on the pic it looks like a super delta or might b a halfmoon.. where u bought it?

regarding how we take pic? erm, actually we got a special tank tat is specially made to use to take pic of betta fish.. erm, taking pic of betta fish require time and patience and also LUCK!!

we usually use Jar(SU tank) for betta fish, easy to maintain n cheap. rich ppl only use aquairum.. hehe..

haha I bought it in those uncle-uncle LFS. cuz he always give me free stuff and tons of discounts i will never tell them how much i spent for my hobbies I learnt my lesson last time. but i think my dad is tired of scolding me I looked up on super delta and halfmoon. they look the same to me. hahaha... i guess its because i'm not an expert. =/

the special tanks are usually empty is it? means you just put the fish in >> take picture >>> put back to normal aquarium? maybe i should try that one day and get a beautiful picture of my fishes.

oh i wanna ask right, they say that bettas are top dwellers... but this betta seems to be swimming from the top to the bottom. Sometimes he's in the middle but most of the time he's at the bottom of the tank swimming through the 'holes' on my driftwood and hiding near the grass. is this normal or is he sick? O__O

but he'll ascend to the top of the aquarium sometimes. but when I feed he doesn't seem excited like other fishes i had (tetra, cory, guppies, danios & etc). He just so... simply...chill... and slowly swim to the top and eat.

and then he'll spit out whatever he eat after chewing it or something. I read somewhere that bettas are sometimes picky eaters. if so, then the normal fish flakes wouldn't be appealing to him right? if he's not sick and he's picky... what should i feed him?!

photography tank is a bit smaller compare to normal aquarium u see outside, it is a just custom made for the purpose to take pic.

btw, where u stay? i mean area not address (*so dont get me wrong)

betta like to play hide n seek, so they usually like to swim in and out those holes. so is normal, jus tat we usually put them in a small jar where no place for him to hide..

regarding ur fish not eating, i think is because ur fish is still not used to the new environment and new food.. maybe u shud stop feeding him for 2 days, then only continue feed him with few pellets a day.

erm, i m kinda curious y u will like betta? as in nowadays seldom girls like betta fish.. or mayb i shud say seldom girls like fish..

Super Delta = a long tail fish with caudal spread up to 179 degree
Halfmoon = a long tail fish with caudal spread of 180 degree which the caudal looks like half of a moon, tats y call halfmoon..

oo... area ar, you know setapak? some kampung area in kl. LOL. Ok not very kampung la but not so up-to-date like damansara or something. theres a lot LFS here wan... but most of them are those uncle uncle types =/

Betta ar.. i used to have 2 bettas when I was in primary school. but obviously when I was young I have no idea what I was doing also Now also still feel kinda guilty for keeping them in the small container. bettas are really beautiful. I always wanted to have one again but I had a few guppies. I always feel very kesian at them when I see them in the shop. Small containers, sometimes even cloudy water. they deserve better home than that!

I'm very attracted to fish. when I was very young I LOVE to go chinese restaurants cuz i will keep standing infront of the aquariums and watch the huge fish (not knowing that they gonna be eaten by me LOL )
I beg my dad to buy me an aquarium when I was in secondary school that was when my aquarium craze starts growing. when I look at my aquarium it feels like i'm transported to underwater world. So peaceful and quiet. And fishes are cute whaaat no meh? maybe cuz i'm a girl den i keep decorating my aquarium also but when i see the final works and the fishes are happy, I feel happy.

i think my betta is a halfmoon! i keep looking at it just now HAHAHA. it was staring at me =_=

As a underwater photographer, I would suggest getting a better camera 1st rather than moving your fish into different tanks.

If you have a DSLR try getting a macro lens + CPL filter (get rids of glass reflection). Then turn off the lights in the room but keep the aquarium lights on. Results will be the same if not better, since you get the feel of a "natural" environment in the pictures.

ini high cost.. haha.. for low or tight budget yet wanna take some nice fish pic, use compact also can liao geh. *easier also compare to overprice camera...

ok sorry for that, maybe because i m really noob at those setting, haha.. still learning.. using my GF epl2 (i know not as good as dslr la)

ur story was funny, and i believe tat is kinda rare happen to girls nowadays.

i use pellet instead of flake.. i can count much to feed the fish ma.. haha..

thank god i no need beg my dad to buy me an aquarium when secondary skul.. because i spend all my pocket money to buy it.. yet i walk to the nearest fish shop and tapao it back myself.. ><!! carrying a 2ft tank like a boss walking on the street...

i really dunno much about cameras. i am one of those 'lomo' ppl. i'll try to borrow good cameras from my friend and try but i don't wanna torture my fish so much so maybe i try it on the original tank first. ><

wah u can carry glass tank by yourself when u were in 2ndary? i can barely lift up the tank u noe. but mine bigger than 2ft though. even now honestly i'm like dying trying to change the water cuz i have no long pipes. so i use buckets instead. so tiring but at the end of the day feels like its worth it

p/s: actually i asked for a cheap plastic guppy aquarium but my dad bought me this huge one HAHAH. so whatever lor. Its not that i can't buy with my money but because my mom will scold me. XD if my dad buy then my mom don't dare to scold ma. HAHAHAH plan succeeded!

The more you use the cam, the better value it is And for underwater shots, I use a Canon S100 so a step lower than your GF2 !

As a comparison, by investing in a good camera you'd be able to capture any memorable event, take it everywhere and shoot anything. Compared with a "photography" tank which will only be able to hold fish for short periods without a filter system etc.

A camera capable of taking good aquatic photos can be had for ~RM1k. (ie: Canon S100, G10 etc). The difference between the pro equipment (Canon 1D X + 400mm F2.9) is the chances of getting a good shot. With the 1DX and a good lens you're pretty much guaranteed a printable shot on the 1st try. But with cheaper cams, it takes a few more shots but you'll get there after a few tries

And yes, I do have 1Dx + 400 2.8

go buy water hose to perform water change lo.. easier and safer... if use bucket, accident will easily occur.. *touch wood.............

but if i use hose then i would be putting in chlorinated water. if use bucket can mix the anti-chlorine before putting in aquarium wor

how big is ur tank? perform 10%-30% water change lo, then add in anti chlorine lo.. ><!! i usually do it this way last time.. but not to betta la..

btw, earlier u mention that u name that betta with ur BF name is it?

um... as wide as my arms xD i'm just scared they sensitive to chlorine only >< someone told me before certain fish if i add anti-cl late den it will get affected or smth.

let me tell u a very funny story la...

last time, me and my gf went to the pet shop and bought 2 fighting fish... and we name it with our name... hers 1 call carmen and mine call edmund.. then one day hers 1 die liao, so automatically i said, carmen die liao... my gf respond is die ur head, u die i also not yet die.. ><!!

lesson, never name it with a person name.. otherwise when it die will give an awkward feeling.. lol..

AHAHA. actually i thought of that before. Because I used to have a cichlid with my name. and then it died....... i felt so sad the whole day.

i asked my bf when i bought the fish also. 'what if YC die?' den he said 'if that YC die then this YC wont die lo' anyway he's not a fish person
