Hi guys, not sure if im posting in the right place or even the right forum!

Either way, currently studying in Aussie. Recently got into Dungeons and Dragons gaming, (i mean the tabletop version with rule books, minituares, dice, etc. not the computer games) and although im new at it i enjoy it immensely. Will be coming back home for the summer holidays and was wondering where i can find like minded adventurers to play with on a regular basis for the next 3 months.

I know its almost extinct in Malaysia but one can only hope. Anyway if ur a rare D&Der who happens to know where a newbie like myself can find a game or wanna invite me into ur own campaign just spam this post!!!

P.S. only in KL pls, love the game but im not gonna drive up to Penang for a damn gaming session!

I ran some AD&D 2nd edition years ago. Nowadays D&D is dead. DEAD I tell you! (or maybe its undead. Its a zombie omglololol)

I don't have the 3rd edition D&D source books, but I won't mind running another campaign provided I have time to read up on the rules and such. Or even better let me be a PC instead of a DM. I always get saddled with the stupid DM job :sob:

Its sad to hear that D&D is truly dead. Problem was when it was at its peak i never got into it. Now that i finally tried it and want more, its dead. Ironic isnt it.

Either way the games i have been playing are D&D v3.5. Too bad not a single person here plays anymore.... Guess im the guy who caught the wave a little too late. I would love to DM, but i dont have the books and i dont have the experience to do so either.

Wonder if i did get the books and wanted to start a new v3.5 campaign, would it be hard to recruit players.... Just a thought.

DEAD?

Hell No!

I'm playing 2 sessions at the moment - at the Gamers Castle(or was it Circle) Atria, Damansara.

One campaign is Eberron - as an Orcish Soulknife

and the other is a custom world as an Orcish Cleric of Gruumsh.

Investigate la before making such claims.

I'm a good GM! Or was I think. Haha I once got fedup with my gaming group (they never let me play! Always GMing! Baka baka baka baka!) that I killed their entire party... The look on their faces... lol priceless.

Anyway they still didn't let me play after that. Sigh...

I am a fellow D&D lover meself, been playing online most of the time, for 6 years. Now, my online mates are all busy and away lol.

In case you want to play a game, try going to AmCorp Mall, its near Midvalley, and you can get there through Federal highway. The shop's called Wolf Games, got warhammer and fellow D&Ders.

If anyone is up for an Eberron game, please do PM me. Never been a DM though tongue.gif

There is another thread, maybe you want to move this over there and close this since its redundant? Here's the link http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=213323

Anyway that sounds nice. I would love to play D&D again after so many years. Unfortunately I have my finals on the 14th. So I have to pass. Curious tho about what world you guys are running. Eberron? Or FR? I've never tried 3.5 ruleset before so I'm kinda lost as to what worlds exist.

I guess D&D is quite Dead&Done nowadays. Back probably 15yrs ago I was GMing and also playing with the AD&D 2nd Edition where I used to get my gaming materials like player's handbook, dungeon master guide, monster manual, oriental handbook & the dice from Mind Shop. Nowadays, any pen&paper gaming is practically unheard of anymore. Gone are the days of imagination, role playing & plain old fun. Replacing are the computer games, the trading card games & ps2.

Wolf's Games at Amcorp Mall concentrates on tabletop gaming nowadays. They have quite a fan based on Warhammer 40k. I'm not too sure about the rest of other miniature gaming but you can always ask them.

After D&D, I moved my rpg interest to Palladium's Robotech and then Rifts which I admire the vast imagination that builds up the world of Rifts. Well, I just collect them for pleasure reading.

I don't mind joining a group of gamers for any D&D session within Klang Valley if you don't mind an old man re-living his teenage years. smile.gif

Yes,aye_sde.I am he who registered in dndkl.com.I have been introducing D&D or any tabletop rpg games to new people for years, especially in areas like Bukit Bintang.

As for the game convention,i will have to think through if i can make it.Transport is one of the difficulty that i have.

I have participate in a smaller convention 2 years back by demoing a D&D game and teaching people who's interested in the genre.

Evil is always in the hearts of all mankind. When society is lost, man will will turn to the most darkess acts.Read the novel called "Lord of the Flies",if you're not into novels,go look for a movie with the same title or google search since there's a lot of topics concerning about it.

Without Evil,there is no Good.

Okay, I don't know about you guys, but DnD is definitely NOT dead in Malaysia. Just visit D&D KL and find out!

We run 2 campaigns right now, one Greyhawk and one Eberron. The games are just starting out as it is splitting from a single group into 2. For those who are just into the D20 system, I run a Star Wars RPG d20 game as well. Our games are played in Comics Corner, Damansara Jaya. If you're interested, turn up in our forums and introduce yourself, and we'll try to work something out. Games open for all!

For Miniatures, there's a group who plays that as well, DnD, Star Wars as well as Axis and Allies. Also in CC.

laksa, I'm not too sure if the shop in penang is still open cos like i have not been to penang in ages. I used to know 2 shops in Plus Zone ( or that was what is was called) its one of the small malls in Pulau Tikus area near the market.

If not you could go to NetCity ( fettes park ) and ask for Rommel and ask him to ask his friends where to get them dice.

I frequent Wolf's Game Shop at Amcorp mall.

Hasn't been a D&D game there in ages! At least not in this entire year!

The closest thing is an Iron Kingdoms campaign, same D20 system as D&D. But there's also Shadowrun, Exalted, Vampires, Paranoia XP (abandoned) etc...

But the shop is mostly into tabletop gaming now. I'm playing Warmachine there. And boardgames whenever people come to share the cool games they bought.

It sucks when the new Amcorp management banned us from setting up tables outside the shop. So there's not enough room to play, and the RPGers had to go elsewhere most times now.

I miss playing D&D as a player but most of the gaming group in KL are way too far away from where i stay. And most gaming group preffered to play good characters, boring. It's save the village or rescue a damsel in distress or prevent an evil warlord conquering a good kingdom. And the people i met preffered more on D&D or Shadowrun then D20 Modern series. Can't find a capable GM that's willing to run a game which is not the typical stereotype games and that at the least,i can find an easy access to public transportation.

Most people either don't have the interest in playing an evil character because...
1:The personality of the person is too goody goody. Can't even bear to hurt innocent people.
2:No imaginations and ambitions for being a villain instead of just slaughtering the whole village or killing own party members.
3:No concept on understanding what evil trully meant apart from just killing or backstabbing.
4:Thinking that a evil game don't have any adventuring and only just killing.....again.

I used to frequent Wolf's game shop back in 2000 and played D&D over there every weekends.Playing a chaotic good fighter and a neutral evil doomguard (Not the original Wizards of the Coast's work) for 6-8 months and only died once or twice, can't say the same for the rest of the party. They used to have some D&D and Star Wars games back then. But i stopped going to the place about the next year later. It's really tiring to head over Amcorp Mall every 2-3 times per week basis,it's worse when the DM tells you in the last minute that there's no session.

Proud to say that my first character was the longest running character who managed to do a lot of stuff like releasing a woman's contract from being a prostitute and the character marries her, befriending a confused minotaur whom somehow the party named him as 'Lembu',donating some gems to an orcish family of women and children (The orcish men who were the warriors were killed by the party) aside from just killing the monsters.

My second character was a sadistic and masochistic lawful evil Blackguard who has the cannibal and drug addiction trait, devotedly worships a soon-to-be-evil-god by raising funds (Robbing and Killing) to built a temple devoted to the wannabe god, building an army to crush a good kingdom, destroying a good temple and some other stuff i can't remember.

yeah I'm soo used to playing well not good but mostly neutral characters and chaotic at that. Tried a palladin once and didn't like it damn laws! lolx. I've had a few age old characters from the 1st edition till 2nd edition time line. Currently only 2 of em, well when I last left them they were on a quest for demi-god status but never really finished it.

The DM after more than 10 years moved back to Canada. He was a superb DM and could never really find another one like him. Though there was another DM who is similar to him but he also had to kinda quit playing and stuff since we all lived very far away from each other. From the original group in the 80's of whom we played with only 2 are actually in the same country! lolx or state. the rest are in Sarawak, Canada, US, Australia and Saudi Arabia.

Gonna be hard to get the old gang going! lolx Unless it's for a TSR Game Con. Alas TSR is no more tks to wizards of the coast which I think are really sucky lolx.

As for playing an evil campaign well, it wun be easy cos as you said members will be thinking ONLY OF themselves and well it might drag a game and also it would be a short lived campaign. depening of course if the evil characters are able to survive not only mobs and all that but also each other.

I would explain the evil alignments and how they work.Although there are some people who disagree me on this,it is their own opinion.

Neutral Evil is...
A very selfish character who only thinks of themselves. They rather surrender a fight just so to be nice to their captives and only strike in their weakest moments or withdraw the battle gone wrong, only to fight the next day. They won't perform any crimes that's too obvious in the eyes of the law in the city or kingdom. They manipulate the laws, finding loopholes and take advantage of them. They are NEVER Chaotic.Never do things that would risk bringing attention. They can be mercenaries, fighting for the pay and never for loyalty.

Chaotic Evil is...
Unlike Neutral Evil,Chaotic Evil can still be selfish. But their mindset is "The strong rules the weak' philosophy.Although this sometimes work, the leader don't actually get to live very long until a stronger member decides to take over. They are unorganized, undisiplined and doing things half arsed and the most quickest way to solve their problems which creates more problems for themselves.Chaotic Evil are always on the run from the law due to the destruction they left in every village or town they previously visited. They are the destroyers, bringers of destruction on whatever path they go to.Think of it like Serial Killers in real life like Ted Bundy or such.

Lawful Evil is...
The ultimate and strongest evil alignment among the other 2 alignments above. They are organized and disiplined and can be catergorize as tyrants (Hitler or Vlad the impaler for example) or a loyal servants of evil. They dedicate themselves to the cause of their beliefs, organization, deity or devil. If a Lawful Evil organization loses one footsoldier, they can be replaced as easily the next. But if a king or a leader falls, they too can be replaced by his successor.Despite that they are still evil, they do not randomly and chaoticly hurt or kill their own members for fun nor for their own benefits unless the member has failed to do what they have been ordered to do in the first place.Same goes for their leader if they are weak and incompetent that jeopadizes the organization, then the leader is not worth to be spared. They are patient, dedicated and well-planned to execute their schemes.

A evil party doesn't neccesary have to think of themselves all the time. They can work together in order to survive the outcome and this won't drag the game if the members did not make them in the first place. There is the word 'Common Sense'.If the members delibrately causes chaos to the party, despite not roleplaying their character's alignment and drags the game,it is their own actions that causes it and not from the DM.

"Are the PCs just amoral villains who want to rob and kill every creature that crosses their path -- including other party members? Do they simply act without conscience? From a roleplaying perspective, that kind of reasoning is pretty lame." - Jason Nelson-Brown from Wizards of the Coast.

Everyone here likes to play evil?

Last I checked, there's a group starting an Exalted (White Wolf) campaign playing the 'dark Solars', don't know what they're called... As well as a Sabbat campaign 'Vampire Requim' (White Wolf).

D20 campaigns are still very linear quests. But those playing the White Wolf games I believe are much more RP oriented.

I think a player just got bit by the Call of Cthullhu bug... Let's see if a CoC campaign pops up soon.

Myself, I've only played a few short RPGs. As far as a lvl2 rogue that managed to rob a mayor's house and got away with all the gold I could carry (which isn't much with the heavy encumberance...) Then a lvl8 barbarian that's allergic to magic healing, and always low on hp cos the silly rogue keeps misfiring her Use Magic Item....

But Warmachine is my thing now!! Really cool miniatures at www.privateerpress.com. Game is simpler and more tactical than Warhammer 40k's dice-fest.

The Zeonic Forces game were scrapped, well, it was meant as a test anyway. For the good ole' D&D fantasy, the group decided to temporarily halt the game until we got fantasy high for it. So in the meanwhile...

D20 Modern Occult : The Minutemen

A combination of Hellboy / Constantine / Cthulu scenario where forces beyond imagination DO exist in the modern day world.

Introduction:

It is May, 2006. Few weeks ago, a group of small time crooks were caught in the act by cops and were sentenced by Judge Holloway for their criminal offense to the maximum prison of Fort Worth. Among the prisoners, Lucianno 'Scarface' Angelo, son of Federico Angelo and head of the Angelo family whom Lucianno were sentenced for 10 years in prison for arms smuggling.

During the transportation, the armored truck were hit. The masked men murdered two police officers and rescues Scarface, leaving the small time crooks on their own. In this way, the cops are more likely and easily to track down inexperienced crooks to buy him more time for an escape. They began to make their escape before the police arrives, robbing along the way to get a hold of cash and weapons. But in the end, they were caught because of their carelessness and were sent to a prison cell in the police station.

They then were visited by a man. The mysterious man in his mid-sixties who called himself as Agent Graves, began explaining to the crooks that in order to avoid 20 years of imprisonment with charges of robbery, assault, grand theft auto and 3 charges of murder where two of the victims are the police officers, they either swore their allegience to Graves' society or stay in prison and rot. They weren't given much of a choice and chose to work for them. A job is still a job. But why did he chose these crooks? It was Scarface Angelo who took an interest on them, the crooks able to withstand for a few days without capture, resourceful in some cases that the society observe their actions. Graves began to explain what's really happening to the world right now as we speak.

“Let me tell you a story so indulge me even it’s a bit far fetched. During the old days, whatever you ever read about myths and superstition, were true. Although the books they wrote about these stuff has fiction and truth about them, like vampires afraid of garlic bullshit. The monsters do exist and terrorizes the people, consuming everything in their paths. Fast forward a few hundred years; this country weren’t founded by our forefathers as so said in the history books, if you ever read one.

It was founded by a group of aristocratic elite nobles who sees the opportunity to grab the free lands while it still there and enforce their protection against the occult and the supernatural entities, whatever means necessary without the public knowledge to avoid panic. They called themselves, the ‘Trust’. This group swore an allegiance, a blood oath, to combat whatever threat to the country. Thus they formed a specialized occult task force unit, called ‘The Minutemen’.

These men are highly trained in the occult to deal supernatural forces beyond normal convention. We've been waging an occult war for centuries, from Hitler's GGG, the Gergengheist Gruppe to mad cult worshipers trying to awake a dead god in a deep sea. Now you're one of us and are officially, the ‘Minutemen’. Hard to swallow to all of this? You’ll proberly wondering if this is all true and why you haven’t seen any of the supernatural entities in all your lives.

You might not have seen them because you're lucky enough to avoid them or maybe you did but chose to forget it. Ever read the tabloids on how people saw sightings of strange creatures? There’s your answer right there. People chose not to believe such things and preferred science and logic to answer it for them. Thus disbelieving that such entities do exists in the first place and keep reminding themselves that it's merely just hallucinations or they believe they become crazy. Not everything can be answered by that"

Of course that the group finds this all hard to believe, Graves shows them evidence of photos of the infamous Mothman and a skull of a demon. The study of the skull determines its origin dates back longer than 1000 years old. Still very skeptical of this, he shows them the final 'piece of resistance'...a small imp trapped in a runic inscribed cage. Forced to accept the truth, no longer that they are able to return to their normal lives.

Thus, this group of men begin their new lives as the 'Minutemen'...

In the apartment, given as a gift from the 'Trust', the Minutemen were handed their first task to investigate a series of missing people that some of them turned up a month later, dead. It was all over the news. Their deaths baffled the forensic team due to their stomachs were burst from the inside and the bodies were cannibalized. Police speculate that some form of psychosis turned these people to cannibalism. New to the proffession, the Minutemen begin their research by the clues given, getting the necessary information from the homeless, shopping for packs of ciggarettes and making chinese meals. In the end, they found the information they needed.

It seemed that the homeless indeed saw some of the missing people lurking in the dark, filthy alleyways, scrouging for food through garbage. In one incident that they saw a horrifying act that these people attacked one of the homeless and ate him alive. It is also learned that these people were infected by a parasite called the Infesters.

The Infesters, blue-colored maggot-like creatures with maws that filled with inward pointed fangs where a fully grown adult can grow up to 4 foot long, frequent by burrowing into the flesh of a living being and nest in the host's brain. The infesters emits chemical fluids into the host's brain. This causes the host to have insatiable urge to feast on flesh, no matter the means, which also cause the host to be driven insane. This creatures of abomination are created from a highly polluted toxins, mutated and evolved these creatures to a new type of species. With enough information, they head to investigate in a alleyway where the homeless people first saw sightings of these 'missing people'.

What they discovered were a gruesome death of a man, partly devoured and blue maggot-like creatures found inside of the victim's burst stomach. The Infesters attack the Minutemen, hunger for their fresh flesh. They began biting onto their flesh, latching onto them and begin to burrow. Panicked, with quick enough response, they remove the infesters from their hands and squash them. But the horror is yet to be over, deeper into the alleyway, they discovered insane men and women who were in the middle of feasting on a fresh kill of a woman, tearing off chunks of flesh from the body and eatting it. Upon noticing their approach, they attacked the Minutemen.

A series of gun fire followed next and a good ole' fashion hand to hand brawl. Once the infected host are goes down, their stomachs wriggled and burst out the adult version of the 4 foot long Infesters. In the end, the Minutemen eventually disposed of the vile creatures, but this causes one of their own comrade suffered great injuries inflicted by the infected hosts who already bitten a chunk of flesh from his shoulder. Towards the end of the episode, they brung their comrade to a nearby hospital for treatment whereas the rest returns back to their aparment for a good, peaceful night of sleep.

What is in store for the Minutemen in the next episode? Tune in for the next Minutemen adventure.

Elmar Ganz is the great grandson of a German officer during WWI who were hung to death as a war criminal for using mustard gas against civilians, the grandson of a WWII Nazi doctor sent to the gas chamber for performing bizarre medical experiments on prisoners of war, and the son of a black marketeer who were executed in a firing squad for selling heroin on the streets of Soviet-occupied Berlin.

Needless to say, hatred of the establishment and homicidal tendencies are his birthright. Until a few months ago, he was simply another angry young man looking for a way to strike a blow against the forces he perceived as having oppressed by his family for nearly a century. All that changed when the Russian authorities released a warehouse full of previously classified material, among which were the personal effects of Elmar's drug-dealing father. The item of greatest interest to Elmar was the key to a safe deposit box at a Swiss bank.

Much to his disappointment, Elmar did not find a secret fortune there. In fact, the only item in the safe deposit box was a hand-bound journal covered in leather that had been made from human skin. Inside were notes, written by all his executed forebears, including a series of dark magic rituals developed by his grandfather.

Upon obtaining the book, he wastes no time and began studying black magic and learning the sordid details of his family's past has driven Elmar quite mad. He has no care or concern other than causing as much death and destruction as possible. Which lead him disrupting historical exhibits at museums located in several states of America in the past few weeks, causing dozen of people's death. And now, his next target is in Los Angeles California, where a WWI exhibition is held in the Museum of Contemporary Arts will be open to the public 3 days later. The Minutemen's mission is to stop Elmar's destructive actions permanently before more damage happens in the future and obtain the book before falling in the wrong hands of the worst people.

After briefing, the group head to get as much information as possible regarding the museum's blue print layout, personnel and etc. Successful only obtaining the blue print but learning nothing important that will help ease their mission. Their only solution is to wait until the deadline for Elmar Ganze to make his appearance. The day of the exhibition's grand opening begins 3 days later and the group didn't have much of a choice but to check out the museum from the inside.

But Elmar Ganz went earlier than the Minutemen by half an hour and managed to cast a few spells of Awaken Dead. Elmarknew what the museum curator don't, is that the trench that they dug up contained buried bodies of WWI soldiers. The ground rises of WWI dead soldiers, thus he is able to control 14 of them, each carrying in their dead hands, a Lee Einfield rifles.

The museum begins in the forum section, connects to the WWI gallery of display cases and to the actual trench of 'Battle of Somme' site, carefully dug up and transported from the fields of France. The ground around the top of the trench is bare of all grass and vegetation, but lengths of barbed wire spiral across the field. The walls and ceiling have been painted to show gray clouds overhead and forests and farmhouses in the distance. Hidden speakers play the sounds of men shouting in German, biplanes passing overhead, intermittent gunfire, and occasionally a mortar explosion.

The trench has parked a Renault tank with a 37mm cannon as well and a foxhole with a heavy machine gun, originally occupied by mannequins but now replaced by Elmar's undead Skeleton soldiers. When the Minutemen arrives into the trench, the dead soldiers has begun attacking the museum patrons by firing their rifles. The tank has been earlier occupied by two dead soldiers, brung the tank alive with its remaining fuel. It began blasting its shells onto some sections of the walls, its true purpose is to bring half of the musuem down where the Minutemen stands while their master is safely hidden and protected in the bunker.

Seeing the danger, Darian, JC and John quickly climbed up onto the trench, hoping to stop the tank by climbing inside. The tank begins to move and drives to try trample both Darian and JC to crush them, but both were able roll away from the danger onto the ground safely. John manages to climb on board of the tank but unable to pry open the hatch which were locked. JC quickly gives him a hand by disabling the hatch after he climbed up. On the other side, Slim and Dimitri is fending off the 8 dead soldiers and 2 undeads stationed in the fox hole. A lot of gunfire exchanged and bullets flying around, zipping passed them, hitting the walls and dirt.

The tank begins to move, trying to shake off the intruders, this causes JC to fell off the tank and down into the trench but John hung on desperately as much as he can. It drives through the walls, crashing into the gallery, the forum, into the museum's giftshop and finally the restroom while turning its turret to shake the persistent John off. He immediately pried open the hatch when it fully stops, took out his Beretta M3P Shotgun and shot the controls of the tank. Unsuccessful to disable the first time, the occupants of the tank shot John near the shoulder. The bullet bypasses his flesh, dealing heavy injuries and almost caused John his life. He shot the second time, destroying the controls, threw in a smoke grenade to buy him some time to escape for his life and head back to the trenches. The smoke bought him enough time to escape which the undeads began to chase him down.

Meanwhile, most of the undeads are defeated easily with Slim's boxing and Dimitri's firepower but the foxhole, manned by 2 skeletons with a heavy machine gun proved to be difficult. Bullets sprayed to their location, JC were unfortunate enough that he took many hits from the machinegun and fell unconcious with bullet ridden body. Not dead but dying, the rest immediately tries to get closer to the foxhole to stop it before more damage is done onto them, Darian followed next when he got closed enough to the action. After dodging a few attempts of being shot but in the end, he too took many hits to the body and joined JC as well. It was Slim that got close enough to defeat the undeads in the foxhole. Dimitri, whom took the chance to man the heavy machinegun, despite that he's not proficient to use it, began firing it and killed a few more whom rose up from the dirt later plus the ones from the tank who were chasing John after he took off.

After the door were complety shot to pieces by Dimitri at the bunker, Elmar Ganz finally revealed himself out to the open, alongside with 2 of his undead soldier. They were taken down very easily the next when Dimitri fired the heavy machine at their direction thus killing him and his guards instantly, a very anti-climatic moment. The Minutemen were victorious, took the book from Elmar's coat and called Agent Graves. Several police squad cars, ambulances and fire trucks waited outside of the museum due to the mayhem happened inside. Although the police are not to interfere the Minutemen's business, at the least, they're glad the mayhem is over. Most of the group were sent to the hospital for treatment of their injuries but only Dimitri the sole Minutemen came out of the carnage, unscathed. He then follows Graves for his next mission whereas the Minutemen has a future different mission coming to them after they gotten healed up.

Next upcoming episode...'Trouble in Black Rock'. Tune in the next Minutemen adventure coming soon.

Interesting D20 Modern Game. Looks like the thread's dead though...

Anyway I found some sites of some Malaysian D&D Groups for those looking to get into D&D...

That's an old game and i'm lazy to update it. Currently, i'm GMing in Toybox @ Taman Paramount and next month, i'll be starting a D20 Star Wars game for the Dark Side campaign. I'm trying to bring tabletop rpg awareness to gamers and non-gamers of all sorts.

Hey Abas, glad to hear from you in this forum. biggrin.gif

I'm currently slowing down on running my own campaigns as i'm suffering from DM burnt and the lack of "actual" players in my group. cry.gif

Currently, i'm pretty free these few weeks. I would join your campaign but the distance is pretty far from where i stay and i would prefer to be in a low level campaign starting up, rather than being in a middle of a high level campaign. sad.gif

Stan most likely i'll be playing bangsar from now on because we are using all these map tiles and icons now. Makes my job easier with the description and flow of play.

I have a new player as well... just joined as a petal warlock. Anyway... why don't you come and join for a bit since you're not doing anything. Besides, after we finish this world there's going to be some interesting stuff coming up.

Trust me, we're still hovering at level 13 now... and the max I see you'll go too would probably be 17 by the time the campaign in the world ends.

well there is a life after rpg you know... heh heh. Anyway come on give us a try once more...

I got one more friend to join up... he used to play MUD with me back in the university days. Besides, the more the merrier and i'm pretty sure we can cobble up some nice sessions. So far now i've got 3 pretty active and flexible players and 1 who loves it but sometimes get screwed by work too much to be too active. If you join up, i can really start a good solid and consistent party.

Well, i'm tempted to join in your group. Are you still running your same homebrew campaign? If i recalled, it's a good only campaign, right? I wouldn't mind if i could get a ride from Bangsar station.

To answer your question regarding about the Tabletop RPGs being hosted in gameshops:

1) Mid Valley (plays DnD)
2) Wolf's Gameshop (plays DnD)
3) Comics Corner in Damansara (consisting of 2 groups: 1 plays DnD and the other plays anything)
4) Toybox (preparing for 4th edition)

These are the only groups that i know of that still plays in gameshops. Problem is, most of the gaming groups play in their homes and are so badly segregated and isolated, so it's pretty difficult to find any of them.

It's really depends on your location actually and it also depended on the group's playstyle.

1) DnDKL group in Damansara (Last heard that they're gonna go for 4th edition) contain more than 4 players
2) 1 group in SS14 (probably disbanded due to lack of players, but unsure of) unknown status
3) Jesse's group in SS2 or Paramount Toybox (Preparing for the 4th edition) looking for player
4) Abas' group in Bangsar (May still be playing 3.5 version) looking for player
5) 1 group in Sentul (last heard that they play 3.5 version of Forgotten Realms. I'm unsure if they still exist or not) unknown status
6) 1 group in Mid Valley (plays DnD 3.5, but may shift to version 4) unknown status
7) 1 group in Wolf's gameshop (plays DnD 3.5) unknown status

If you wanted more than just DnD...

1) Azlan's group nearby KLCC (using homebred D10 system) looking for player
2) My group in Bukit Bintang (starting a D20 Modern: Dark Matter) looking for player
3) Fiona's group in Cheras (using the Unisystem for Gurps) looking for player
4) Ivan's group in Damansara (tries anything from D6, D10 and D20 systems) contain more than 4 players
5) Baelin's partial group in SS14 (Plays D20 system using homebred rules) looking for player
6) Kuok's group in Bangsar (Plays D20 system of Iron Kingdoms but in MSN) contain more than 4 players
7) Erik's group in Amcorp Mall (Plays D20 system, possibly still into D20 Modern) contain more than 4 players

Any questions, feel free to ask.

I remembered that in Outpost (Cineleisure), probably on the second floor, that members in Outpost sell their DnD miniatures over there. But if you're looking for dices and books, you'll need to check on Comics Corner in Damansara Jaya or Bangsar.

If you're planning on running a game or are belonging to a gaming tabletop rpg group and the DM, allows Forgotten Realms campaign setting books, sure. The Forgotten Realms series is a very detailed setting and has a lot of nifty stuff to work on your character with, if you're playing that is.

I'm currently running a homebrew DnD campaign using the 3.5 edition rules system. There are several houserules with additional add-ons to the gaming rules such as criticals, call shots and etc. My group's playstyle is pretty serious but not to the point of shakespearean type of roleplay and we occasionally do joke around. So we want some serious players, not casual ones who won't bother to learn about the game and needs to be babyspoon fed every single time. I run my games pretty strict, with everything on it, from roleplay, to hack and slash, to puzzle solving, to enviroment challenge, etc, just so to cater every players' needs in the group.

So i'm looking for eager and serious players (not casual players), with at least a bit of experience of gaming (like, you had sample one or two games before). Even if you have no experience at all, we can teach you the basics, but the rest is up to your ownself to learn.

We're not letting in anyone in permanently, so if you're interested, we'll do some player try-outs to see if you're alight to game with us or not. So if you're interested, just reply the thread or gimme a PM.

Hey all, this is the Questing GM from Sabah. Have been gaming for almost 10 years, mostly D&D (still haven't been able to try out 4E yet) but is looking to branch out to new games. There's no FLGS in Sabah that sells D&D stuff so we have to order them from overseas sometimes.

Haven't been playing recently because I'm in uni now but hoping to roll some dice once I graduate. Hoping to know more Malaysian gamers out here. blush.gif

I even have a gaming blog so you can check it out at my sig below. notworthy.gif

Hope it's nice meeting you all. wink.gif

Hey guys, this looks like a very interesting game to get into. I have always heard of this game but never actually seen it.

Does anyone here need a new member in their DnD group? Cause I'm new, willing to learn and join weekly games. ANYONE?

My best advice to get you started is, if possible, find an experienced group that can take in another member, you'll learn faster that way. If not, get a group of buddies together to form your own but you'll have to learn things from scratch.

The current edition is the 4th and you'll need 3 core rulebooks, Player's Handbook. Dungeon Master's Guide and Monster Manual. If you are a new player that have managed to joined a group, you'll only need the Player's Handbook. Buy the other two if you and your buddies are new to the game and someone will have to be the dungeon master (DM).

I'm not sure what is the price of these books in KL but I'm willing to guess that each book will probably cost about RM100-200 (depending on which shop too). Best way to find a group is to ask around game shops that sell these books.

I stopped gaming for several months now. sad.gif

Well technically, i stopped running games, coz i've gotten burnt out from being a gm all the time and my players refuses to switch roles of running games. mad.gif

icon_question.gif Am looking for a 3.5 group to join in as a player though coz my weekends are boring and my job sucks. yawn.gif

Not interested to try 4E because it's never really my cup of tea to start all over again with so little modules available right now.

Hmm, personally I would recommend that all new players start out with a game system that focuses on the fluff aka flavour text rather than the crunch aka the rules. D&D 4th edition is fun to play no denying it but I would personally say start out with D&D 2nd edition or Savage Worlds. Of course that's my personal preference

Anyway, for game shops one can find the rulebooks for sale at the Comics Corner down at Damansara near Atria. That's the main gaming shop and several groups already run roleplaying games there smile.gif (Note: Don't go to the Comics Corner near Sunway. They'll stare at you cluelessly if you ask about D&D tongue.gif )

AD&D 2nd Edition to me feels more crunchy than 4E if you ask me laugh.gif
By the way, you can now download the Quick Start rules and a free adventure for D&D 4E *legally* from the Wizards web site. Grab it while you still can.
Yep, Savage Worlds is a nice and fast system but is it for sell in Malaysia? I would really like to know where? drool.gif

And if you really want to go fluff then try Exalted or any other White Wolf game. icon_rolleyes.gif

But again, getting a group is more important. thumbup.gif

New to all this but have played almost all the Forgotten Realms cRPG since Baldur's Gate. Anyone running a Forgotten Realms campaign and would like to include a newbie? sweat.gif

I'll roll a Human Ranger who has one too many knocks on the head and has a pet hamster.

Go for the eyes Boo! Go for the eyes! xD

But seriously you could ask around at the Damansara Comics Corner. Lots of gaming groups hold games there on a weekly basis and I'm sure there are open slots for new gamers smile.gif

Wow 2nd ed is crunchy? First time I heard that. I thought Exalted was much crunchier than that, hehe

Well it's easy to order books here since the Damansara shop owner frequently takes orders but I don't think it's applicable for Sabah now. Ah I remember back in the days living in KK. So hard to get game supplies.

And true finding a group is much more important nod.gif

I'm starting up a DnD group in Subang if anyone is interested. We'll be playing D&D V4. You don't have to get the resource books, I'll lead the game for the most part as GM. I already got a few interested people. Lemme know if anyone here is interested as well.

My group is rather tied up right now with mostly working adults and family heads struggling to make time for a game. I don't mind, however, to help chip in some advice now and then for whomever wants to get into the hobby and know more about it. There's tons of nice guys to help you (the newbie) out here in this thread alone. Kudos to their efforts on reviving this nearly extinct hobby.

Grif: There's used to be a shop in Bangsar Shopping Mall, i think should be 1st or 2nd floor there, a gaming shop that deals with comics and cards, table board games, etc. They sell miniatures, some D&D book materials, dices and stuff. You could also try finding MPH around your areas for D&D books

No such luck. I tried MV MPH, BTS Borders and 1U MPH, all don't have stock. Mmm, I'll try that Bangsar Shopping Centre shop tomorrow. wink.gif

Dear Forumites,

I am a lecturer at Swinburne University, Kuching and doing research on pen and paper role playing games as educational tools. Are there any D&D player communities in Kuching? Please contact me on this email address if you would like to help me learn D&D, and perhaps start a D&D player community in Swinburne. Email: akhan(at)swinburne(dot)edu(dot)my.

i'm guessing you're in kl so the other option is to try comics mart at Midvally or toybox

edit: and a set of RP dices would normally cost around 20~50(if you're feeling fancy) though it would save you more money if you know what gaming system your group is playing if it's d% or roll and keep you could do with just different colour d10, d20 system would normally requires you to have a whole set but you could only get the required dices for your character class.

Looking for any DnD, Pathfinder, Shadowrun or any RPG sessions!

Fellow GMs and players, please feel free to reply!

And why on earth are there so few DnD players here in Lowyat?

not few in lowyat. Its too few in malaysia and probably even Asia.

The latest Tyranny of Dragons storyline sounds interesting.
Let's see if there will be any D&D Adventurers League ongoing in Malaysia & Singapore.

You probably had more chance finding a game online than real-life in Malaysia. Me myself has been playing play-by-post RPG for quite sometime now so you can PM me if you want some sites suggestion. Or if you want a more tabletop-like experience, there are sites that run online RPG sessions. I don't play them though as my verbal proficiency of the English language is rather mediocre and I don't have a webcam.

Btw, who sells the dnd books here? The 5.0 DMG looks worthy of purchasing.

Hi guys, Just wanted to share this with other loves of the old school type of entertainment! Basically me and my friend (who is a very experienced DM) are looking for players to start a pen and paper DM session. It seems like this art has been lost over the years, given the amount of online games etc in existence. We would love to bring the joy of pen and paper back to the realm and are even willing to teach new players how the game is played (provided they are genuinely interested in doing so). Any players looking for something of the sort, please PM me or reply to this message so we can chat further. Many Thanks!! For those that dont know me and my friend have been playing since the second edition, which gives us plenty of experience when it comes to playing. We can ensure that new players feel at ease.

Kobal, who is the host of a famous RPG Podcast, came to Kuala Lumpur for a few days in around November 2014.

It was a perfect opportunity to record a podcast about tabletop RPGs in Malaysia with 2 pillars of the gaming community in Kuala Lumpur.

It is an amazing overview of RPGs in Malaysia.

And don't panic, it starts in French but switches to English quite fast.

Listen to it here:

Hi all . I just recently purchased a DnD 5e starter set and am very keen to try it out or perhaps, even join an existing group if you would have me. Is anyone in Penang currently hosting any DnD games ? If yes can this newbie graciously ask to join you guys for a gaming session or two (hopefully more ;p) ?

Hello semua,

Hopefully it is OK to necro this post...

I'm the D&D Adventurers League (AL) Local Coordinator for Malaysia. nod.gif (see sig)
I don't work for D&D but this is a voluntary thing. I'm helping stores with setting up "organized play" in Malaysia.
Adventurers League Encounters (ALE) & Adventurers League Expeditions (ALEX) coming soon.

Currently starting with a couple of shops in Klang Valley (one in PJ, one in KL). I obviously plan to spread D&D nationwide, possibly as much as FNM for Magic in Malaysia. rclxms.gif if you are interested, check our events on Facebook (like us?).

So I'm in a process on writing up an adventure/campaign based on my old homebrew campaign 15 years ago. I'm looking for players that's interested in playing my DnD 3.5 campaign. Specifically, players that's into roleplay, challenges, puzzles, and hard combat. The campaign is nothing too out of ordinary, it's a campaign world that's more or less similar to Faerun/Greyhawk/Forgotten Realms style.

A little about myself: Usually, my style of running the campaign, i'll tend to be strict, there'll be encounters that don't involve hack and slash but when there is a combat, it'll be hard if there's no proper teamwork or strategy to be had. I don't fudge my rolls so when there's a critical, i won't hold back. There'll be encounters involving the characters skills. There'll be puzzles and traps with puzzles.

About the campaign, what's it about: I won't spoil too much. But it'll be grim, it'll be gritty, and it'll be an evil campaign. Not the type that you go random slaughter or kill your own party members. I don't allow that. Not until the players established their personalities much later, then i'll relax that rule a little bit. There's a rule in my game, don't be a douchebag among your players or you're out. It doesn't mean there won't be any fun times. And it won't be "omg, such grimdark" kind of game. But the mood will set in for the proper tone.

In the evil campaign, you play in a party of evil adventurers. You'll do what you need to survive, to earn your coin, to work for jobs, to explore the dungeon, and so on. It's not any different being a good adventurer right? Well, there are differences. You could find artifacts to gain true power. Enslave the people. Or start up your own tavern business where underneath holds a secret organization that you and your fellows plan your evil deeds.

There'll be horror. There'll be Evil vs Evil. Kidnapping, murder, sabotage, espionage, blackmail, smuggling, human smuggling, organ smuggling, black marketeer, racketeering, drugs, interrogation and torture. The whole works. But being an evil campaign, there's still certain horrible boundaries that we won't cross and neither will the players. After all, we're here to have fun, not to be sick bastards.

Evil characters can still have friends. Not every evil characters had to be a sociopathic serial killers. After all, this is a campaign where a bunch of players work together to gain power, riches and glories, and have absolute power. Whatever fancies your boat, your character is the one that's going to carve that destiny. And i'm here to run the campaign and bring life to it.

So, i hope this pique your interest. If you're interested, do let me know. I stay in Bukit Bintang area (next to Times Square), so if you're from PJ area, just take the LRT to KL Sentral and then take the Monorail to Imbi. It's simple as that. Usually, i tend to run my games on the weekends and will usually run from 5-8 hours of game time from morning until evening.

Hi! I am beginner with like 3 pathfinder games under my belt, looking to learn 5e. I live in Shah Alam.

I am looking for a place to play and also a place that sells Chessex 7-set dice (specifically Gemini, i am collecting the steel hybrids).

Any pointers?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Dungeoneers,

Am actually looking for a group to play DnD with. Got into this game by being a GM first because nobody in my boardgaming group will wanna be a GM. And man, being a GM is a challenge.

So I want to experience it from another perspective first and maybe learn a few more tips and tricks from a PC session.

Willing to drive around Puchong / Cyber area on weekdays and Subang / Klang / Damansara(?) on weekends for sessions.

Reply here or preferably drop me a PM smile.gif Thanks!

EDIT: Gone through the latest Curse of Strahd 5e ebook. So if any GM need a quick run through i can PROBABLY help wink.gif

Hey there,

Just landed in Malaysia for something like a year or more smile.gif I've been playing 3.5 and would like to join a group to play with. For the moment no vehicle so public transport and kind friends to go around KL. Staying in Cheras atm.

Please let me know if there is anything!

I'm not sure about 3.5 but I know Pathfinder (which is basically 3.5e on steroids) has some traction in Malaysia.

I myself have recently finished gearing up to DM for 5e, I just need to iron out some things (I need to experience the flow of Social/Combat/Exploration encounters from the point of view of a DM) by using my nephew and his friends as guinea pigs, since they just finished UPSR and are really really bored.
