saw IPhone 4S promotion at Maxis Carrefour for RM1149

That's actually current non-promo price, contract 2 years.

oh is it. actually thought it could have been best buy there. looking at upgrading my current 3GS.

maybe I should wait until iPhone 5 comes out and 4S price reduce more
*
Better wait a bit. Maybe the price won't go much lower (price just reduced globally post-iPhone 5 launch in US), but its plan may be lower. Take exampe of previous i3GS plan.

Can you explain to me about the maxis wifi? I'm currently in klang area with I value 1 Maxis contract. Guess I wasted 10 months of the wifi?
*
Well, each iValue plan comes with 4GB Maxis Wifi. It's actually akin to TM Wifi on how your sub is accompanied with access to wifi on certain location.

Don't be ashamed for not using it though. Most others are in the same situation too, due to limited coverage of it. Plus, enabling both 3G and Wifi connectivity gonna suck your battery much faster. You don't want to do that while you're outdoor.

Hello sifus! BB user here planning to switch camp soon. Assuming i'm jumping ship to iPhone, which plan should i go for? Currently my call charges are 20-ish and data used is between 1-1.5gb every month. The cheapest iValue is RM100 but i felt that the amount of call minutes and SMSs are wasted based on my usage.
*
Better get the iPhone outright. Get normal plans either TalkMore or TextMore RM28 and bolt them with data for another RM48. Or use Internet Value Plan 50 or 75, where calls and SMS goes ala carte.

But then, if Maxis 3G network is what makes you tick, better go for UMobile prepaid. Use same infra, including upcoming Maxis LTE.

Btw, if the only way to get the iPhone is through iValue, no choice then regarding the plan's price (by considering your monthly usage). For iValue 1, calls and SMS can be ample but data is not. On BB, data may not be as much as on iPhone since web pages and emails are aggresively compressed.

what is port or porting means?
*
Using your current number onto another network, while also maintaing its prefix (013, 010, 016, 018, etc). In this case, transferring your non-Maxis number onto Maxis network.

Mind you, porting your number may take days.

Actually I often wonder what really is theĀ  benefit of not buying up with a plan? I mean ok la if you're a non-Maxis user. But if you are an existing user and have been for some time, I don't see many switching telcos. If compared to SurfMore 50 for a fair comparison of data at least + RM50 being paid for calls on average each month - that works up to the RM100 of iValue 1.

So what really is the benefit? Everyone talks about it ie no contract etc but what real benefit - unless you're not a Maxis user.

Any thoughts anyone? Or am I missing something? Lol

Some people are already rocking on the 'unpublished' Maxis Biz 68 (the one that requires such a high deposit). That unlimited plan doesn't enjoy any such perks of iPhone contract extension, while subscribing Biz 68 requires you to lock yourself into a different contract. So you can't migrate unless you're terminating that plan.
