basic mod, need at least a drill, and jigsaw (for fast and big cut)... if u want small cut dremel is a nice tool... at least have a drill and jigsaw...

drill (RM100-200)
drill bit (2.5 mm, 3 mm, 4 mm) - for unrivet, screw hole or starter hole
hole saw (RM varies) - perfect hole cut
jigsaw (RM150-2xx) - blade for wood (acrylic) and blade for metal
filer (RM1x-3x) - very important tool to smooth the cut edge
sand paper (at least 220, 400, 800 grit)

dremel (RM1xx for imitation or RM2xx for other brand or RM3xx or more for the ori/black decker RTX) - dremel is versatile, but need a lot of patient and steady hand for nice fine cut... have alot of useful accessories depend on budget...

there others tools, but stated above will be the fundamental...

most of the brand external hdd, they solder the usb connector to the hdd pcb... even use open the case, the hdd can only connect via usb and not usual SATA...

thanks boss.. im kinda newbie to this.. juz curious..

1) if i buy a dremel, do i stil nid a jigsaw if i dun mind working longer on a project.. and do i stil nid a drill tool seperately?
2) i read some of the products at the dremel site, i found there is attachement to smooth out woods, can it used for metals as well or is there seperate ones? or i juz get the filer as suggested?
3) is dremel able to do all of the things that you listed eg drill, cut hole, acrylic, metal, smooth edges, sanding?

Thanks biggrin.gif

i used to think dremel can do all... but when u cut side panel or those long cut, dremel abit hard and slow... jigsaw will be faster and easier... even cutting 1 mm thick aluminium will need alot of patience... of course jigsaw not good for small small cut... for acrylic (not plastic), cutting with dremel will meld it even at low speed (meld will be at it worst at higher speed)... jigsaw will not and faster...

filer will be better and faster and finer... those attachment need a very steady hand and bench to hold them... sanding better use filer and sand paper...

if u go for dremel, flexshaft is the most useful accessory...

thanks for the infos boss biggrin.gif so boss this flexshaft is like extension for the dremel and can be used much more easily for the cuttin process? so boss,

1) cutting long cuts and acrylic and hard metal = jigsaw
2) to smooth out edges = sand paper + filer
3) if small cuts and drills, should i get the dremel + flexshaft?

drill for me is a must... dremel cant do circle... small cut, dremel... can use dremel or drill as beginner cut for jigsaw... and flexshaft will be very helpful as an extension plus easier handling and to reach hard angle...

for perfect and precise hole drilling, drill stand will be a good add-on... you may need to get handtap or other stuffs as well...

happy modding... above just my personal experiences... hope will work on you... smile.gif

i personally not using stand yet so cant comment much on this...

but from my researches, dremel stand not really stable... better get a normal drill with a third party stand... work better and solid built... dremel stand are mostly plastic... sweat.gif

1) drill - skil my choice...
2) drill bit - any HSS bit will do... some drill they got free but not for small bit size...
3) Jigsaw - any branded 450 watt that do 45 degree cut will do or can go higher 650 watt... if u got budget can go for those will led guide and tooless blade change system...
4) hole saw - can fit most normal drill...
5)filer and sandpaper - any brand will do... but u get what u paid... mr. mark or 3m will be better and last longer compare to generate brand... but they cost bout RM2 or more per piece... for filer cheap cheap one also can...

hope these helps...
