Hahaha. The difference not that much la bro, but if you compare a OS6 9800 with a OS7 hybrid 9800 side by side you'll notice a huge performance difference la. Especially the UI smoothness.

nope.. it is not because of cheap only..

not so many people like the slide design...

some people like candybar style,

for me 9800/9810 still special and kinda one of beautiful design of BB...

Especially BlackBerry Torch 9810 which is a BB with a fantastic screen, fast processor and equally impressive battery life.

No! I REPEAT, DO NOT REPURCHASE YOUR BIS PLAN! That's just plain dumb. You should get a message saying your phone's registered to your wireless network, if you don't get it, do a battery pull. No matter what, don't repurchase your BIS plan!

Okay, hehe. I used to fully restore my iPhone and now I prefer to clean wipe and reload the new OS version. That way it feels like a brand new device. I wiped using BBSAK and reload new OS, everything is snappy.

Guys,

Need help here.
I'm trying to install .474 OS from brightstar m'sia. Seems like the apploader can't detect the .474 software installed on my PC. So I can't update my OS.
Anyone can help me?

IIRC , you can connect the wifi and the mobile network also need to on also ..

unless u dont have sim card , the blackberry can use the wifi connection ... but with sim card , need to turn on the mobile network.. and u are free to connect with wifi..

ok, i know how it worked..[based on ayil's post]
our device has already activated BIS ,
as we know, without BIS, most of apps cannot online[even with wifi]

so, after activated.. disabled the mobile network/data and then activate wifi...
so.. we use wifi connection

and since we already activated BIS, and still subscribing it.. so doesnt matter if we close it and just use the wifi..

Hi, can anyone help me. Im using a bb torch 9800 bought it in dec 2010, brightstar, extended warranty 2 years. Today morning my phone was lagging and it rebooted suddenly. But instead of rebooting the led light keeps blinking red while the screen remains black. I tried the battery pull, and charging it for 20mins, but it is still the same. Help! brightstar centre is closed today

Added on December 11, 2011, 11:50 amand now the red light is not even blinking(it is plugged in to charger)

Extended 2 years warranty? Where you buy from bro?

Unplug the charger -> take out the battery for 30 minutes -> charge the phone without the battery for 5 minutes -> plug in battery.

If it doesn't work I think your battery's fried. No major problem bro, don't worry.

thanks will update my situation soon, hopefully it is a minor problem. 1)But if the battery is fried will brighstar cover it? since it it includes accessories, right? If not I might as well go to popmyberry or some other store. 2) how to know if the batt is original or not?

I got mine from a known forumer here, alieamin. There was a promotion back in nov/dec2010. Buy phone, register online extend warranty to 2 years and stand a chance to win a bmw x5 or a trip to paris.

I'm not really sure about the warranty bro, cause different parts of the phone have different warranty period. Just call Brightstar tomorrow to confirm. And do not, I repleat DO NOT go to PopMyBerry. Their parts are damn expensive, just get a battery from a forumer here. Go for SunGlobal or something, most batteries that looks like the original are fakes.

Or the other alternative is PM bro alieamin. See what he can do for you.

Official (not for MY, of course). I need my BB for work, so I don't like to mess with it too much, I keep my installed applist to a minimum and I tend to stick to official firmwares.

Anyway, I am not sure if there are hybrids for the 9810..

There are, Blackberry hybrids aren't like custom Android ROMs. Unlike some Android ROMs, hybrids are based on official firmwares, so they work perfectly fine, just better. smile.gif

Ha ha, the same situation applies in Android la, bro. There are custom ROMs based on official firmwares, and custom ROMs that are not.

Naah, not keen on a hybrid OS for my 9810 at the moment. The official firmwares serve me well so far. Thanks for the tips, guys.

People are selling on LYN at about RM80 I think. SunGlobal no fakes la.

I'm sorry to hear that bro, but if possible, buy it from a shop then you can test if it's really a battery problem before buying it. If you buy online, then you put the battery also same problem then you wasted you time and money.

u have a point there.

or else buy from recommended seller or someone with a safe trader tag, i doubt seller will bring 1 item only to cod. lazy seller maybe will act like that. example:- my group of trader friends, every time got a deal they always bring 5-6 backup for that item, just in case having not working issue smile.gif im not against the physical shop, what im trying say ~ IF the buyer don't have any transport to go buy the accs n so on, then seller stated can cod at buyer's place. it would be nice what.

That's one point there also.

But we're not really sure if his problem is the battery or not. If it's not a battery problem, seller bring 100000 backups also no use.

everything in this world can defect, hence its proper to bring back up. like alieamin, he's a good seller with good delivery ETA, always bring backup to satisfied client if he/she dont that set, he will bring out another set smile.gif this is what is call as clever / smart trader, thinks 2-3 steps ahead. hehe. thats what im trying to do with my laptop/sunglobal sale as well.

Bro, I agree with you point of sellers bringing backups.

But the problem now is he/she doesn't know if the problem resides within the battery. So let's say his/her motherboard fried, and he/she tried all the seller's backup batteries also can't. Then obviously the buyer won't buy the battery right? That means the seller wasted his/her time.

I'm not against any sellers that doesn't have a physical shop, it's just that when it comes to certain situation, we really have to walk into a physical shop to try.

Cheers bro.

most of regular seller here have their own physical shop -.-! its just cod within stated place to ease the trading session. its the same, if the mobo fried, anybody as seller should've known the exact problem. therefore, both party need to give n take to earn profits, seller must tell clients, something like they will repair the phone and send back to clients (door-to-door service). u get what i mean? everything depends on both party, if seller-buyer have a mutual understanding, then everything pun boleh jalan, everything pun ok. no problem biggrin.gif

Actually bro, most of internet seller dont have the physical shop , that's why the price is cheap + it is internet seller..

so, it depend on people, if people cannot take the risk, better buy from the shop that sells much higher..

but nowadays.. there are also internet seller that have shop.. such as GNEX and IMCC , their price is really awesome..

and cheaper.. even cheaper than other internet seller without shop.., that is good and recommended internet seller/

that's why I've said that, the internet seller that have shop is better....
we as internet user, see the promotion and get the promotion... smile.gif

walk in customer also can get the special price , just state that you are from 'this and that' forum... and you can get the nice price..

i have my own experience , e_trade_pj [back in 2009] and also IMCC [just few days ago]

just walk in there[without even contacting them,] and then.. when nego.. the price is cheaper...but not as cheaper as advertised in LYN , then.. when I introduced myself as LYN member, kae7, they straightly give the price that as advertised in LYN... , [but the forumer's price and the non forumer's price actually not so much different.. around RM 50 - RM 100 only..]

that is the price if you are non forumer..
that is good though.

You can use DM for USB tethering, I don't think 9800 supports wifi hotspot.

Tether via DM, chargeable or not very much depends on your data/bis plan with your telco, I think.

i think you not include/install the chinese input when installing the OS ,

the OS is multilingual and can support chinese, japanese or even the arabic words..

With stock battery (1270mah if I remember correctly), I can get about 10-12 hours on 3G. With the sun-global 1800mah battery, I can get around 13-15 hours max, on 3G. My typical daily usage:

1. 10-20 mins of calls
2. 5-10 SMS
3. 1-2 hours total of combination of whatsapp, gtalk, bbm chats
4. 1-1.5 hours average of accessing FB, Twitter, Foursquare social networks
5. 3 gmail accounts pushed to the phone, receiving about 100-200 email per account
6. 30 mins to 1 hour average usage of web browser

The sun-global battery needs to be cloned to the original battery, and re-cloning is only needed if the sun-global battery is totally drained (happened to me only twice in the last 3 plus months).

BTW, I am Digi postpaid+bis user in Penang - network coverage is quite good here on the island.

I've never used the Note before, but moving back from SGS1 to the 9810 made me lose these:

1. The bigger, higher res screen on the SGS1
2. The better web browser on the SGS1
3. The larger collection of apps and games on Android

But I've gained so much more that improves my productivity when I came back to the BB.

Web browsing on BB OS7 is the best I've experienced on a BB phone, but nowhere near as speedy and nice as on my SGS1. But in general, the browsing experience is fine la as long as I don't expect too much.

The keyboard shortcuts are cool, though, and very handy. For example, on my 9810, when I get an email alert for a new post on the forum, I just need to do:

1. Click the link in my email which takes me to the web browser
2. Once the page is open, press T to the top, then tap [last]
3. Wait for the page to open, then press B to the bottom and type my reply then tap [add reply]

What do you mean choppy browsing in android? As long the web browser is hardware-accelerated (eg opera mobile) I actually enjoyed web browsing more on my android tab than I did on my ipad.

The torch 9810 browser is fine, just a bit more checkerboarding than I prefer when navigating big sites.

Dislikes? Hmm, the loudspeaker is not loud enough for me, the keyboard is not wide enough, the battery is not large enough, I guess..

No worries, buddy. Anyway, just to share, I came back to BB platform only for 2 big reasons:

1. I need a portrait qwerty keyboard for text entry in a high end product - nothing in the android, wp, s60 or ios world offers this combination as far as I know (e.g. the android models are all mid or low end products)

2. I need push notification for email and social networking which are as realtime as possible but doesn't intrude on my work or usage of the phone

For 1 and 2, the BB knows no peer icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif

you can get the phone as low as RM 1249 if you subscribed DG Smart Plan 68 [RM 48 per month + RM 10 for BIS] 24 months contract..

Will be going to SG for a week soon, am thinking that I should easily survive the RM36/day max data roaming package (digi + starhub). Just wanted to ask if anyone had experience of getting 'raped' by the roaming charges when on BIS in Singapore (perhaps I should stop push mail and leave IM and social network notifications on).

My total usage from the last bill is attached..

A few suggestions:

1. Upgrade the OS to .585
2. Get a spare ori battery or a sun-global 1800mah battery
3. Get an emergency power pack aka portable charger

Since required travel, i can't afford to lose battery power so much. considering old with hybrid, can feel bit different.

Wondering why would you opt for the slower connection, is the charges different between 3g vs edge? i suppose it should be the same qua since both also data packets.

IMO, 9810 win on the bigger display, but Bold 4 is easier for BBMer as the Q-ty key is bigger. Cant get best of both world la, unless using pad with keyboard. whistling.gif

well - for saving battery tongue.gif , by using EDGE[2G] connection, the battery consumption is lower than using 3G connection.

if you are not doing anything..it is recommended to use 2G mode , even in 2G mode, you can get your e-mail, BBM,and any notification... quickly...[well it depend on the coverage and location]

Battery life is the keyword. Even with a 1800mah sun global battery, I tend to go 2g-only when I know that I'll be outside for the whole day. When out shopping or at the park with my son, I don't have time to browse the web or watch streaming video so 3g is overkill actually. 2g is fine for email, instant messaging and brief access to social networks (fb, twitter and 4sq), in my experience.

Sometimes, though, I will keep 3g on when I have my yoobao 11200mah power pack with me.. smile.gif

So there is original white 9810 after all. My bad then, as I was inform by the shop at mines when we went looking for my wifey 9810 when it was first launched, there is only 2 colors available which is black or grey (at the time only grey color was available). The black color will only be available later.

1. battery life - 9810 has better battery life[as it has larger capacity of battery] , but it all depends on how you manage the blackberry and also the OS

2. both , after update to OS 7.1

you can upgrade to OS 7.1 by yourself . dont need to waste your money and upgrade it at blackberry shop,

you can upgrade to OS 7.1 by yourself . dont need to waste your money and upgrade it at blackberry shop,
*
batt life - almost same capacity.. wat ive heard 9810 battery better than 9860.. is it really better or same (compare to each other) ?

BIS = Blackberry Internet Service. Its a service to accompany your 3G plan so that you can utilise all the blackberry feature & data plan can work correctly. Ask your sis to go to her service provider (Digi, Maxis or celcom) and enquire there. Its in the region of RM10 per month for the BIS.

For me, other than its bulky size, its a great phone. Just dont expect the battery life as good as those "dumb"phone ler. It lasted me about 16-18hrs i think. I noticed the battery life is even worse after installing Whatsapp, but i need that thing to communicate with my buddies who are on iphones. My wife bought the external battery to use with her phone. I didnt bother, but need to make sure i charge before going to bed. tongue.gif

Not sure. Perhaps you'll need to call Brightstar and verify the IMEI before you decide to buy it? Or best bet is to buy from trusted and/or authorised resellers.

Nope, it's slightly better.

Have you tried installing a app called 'Battery Saver'? Not really sure why no one here talks about it or how it works. But I tried it on my Torch 9800 and it worked really well.

It's a small app, probably <500KB. It won't spoil your phone.

Yup, it can be found in App World. Try it out, it's free. I feel that it works, but can't confirm it.

Nope, it's slightly better.

Have you tried installing a app called 'Battery Saver'? Not really sure why no one here talks about it or how it works. But I tried it on my Torch 9800 and it worked really well.

Last time I tried is about 36-48 hours on 3G/2G and low-average usage. Not really sure about it and can't confirm since I don't own a Torch anymore. sad.gif

I would recommend using hybrid OS for your phone. You'll still be able to use your Celcom, don't worry.

About how to do it, maybe bro kae7 or raikko5 can spread some light.

BTW raikko5, tried your v8 on my Bold 2, loving it!

I solve my problem according to phone stuck after dialing *118# ....i update to OS 7.0.0.585 that given by u(from the link u direct me)....then i follow the step one by one on, by referring to ur Tutorial Install Base/Official/Leaked OS(steps no4 really helps me to understand)...after update and restore in about 30min..may phone back to normal..nothing issue with stuck after dialing *118# ....for my case is the OS problem...

if just font, i dont think it can appear the same thing on other fb and others bbm ,

you need to have fancy character apps ...

actually you need to install the OS that contain these languages into your computer

so just find any suitable OS [All languages or Asia] , I suggest u find the same OS , means that.. if you use 7.0.0.540 , you need to find the 7.0.0.540 [Asia or all languages] ,
install it in your computer.. make sure you uninstall any previous OS in the computer..

after that open Desktop Manager/Software , connect your Blackberry ..
go to Application >> choose only to install the language / writing input ...

then.. it will restart your BB , DONE

We will not know the cause of the problem, because the phone is with you..

I suggest. u update the OS , try .706 ...

maybe it restart by itself because of it becomes hang , [the small clock appear] and then. it will restart by itself..
it shows that.. too much memory is leaked... ,

Have loaded the leaked 7.1.0.190 OS on my 9810. Wifi hotspot feature can be turned on and off, but didn't have time to fully test it. Phone seems no faster as far as I can see. As for battery life, I will need some days before I have more info.

if you're using the leaked version, i suggest you to downgrade to os7.0 then only do the update. official os7.1 comes with the latest official bbm 6.1 with cool features smile.gif longer status, colourful bubble space, gif avatar blablabla and so on

Err, I checked on the RIM web site for Digi, Maxis and Celcom - the latest 'official' firmware for the 9810 is still the lousy old 7.0.0.261.

http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads...nload_sites.jsp

Anyway, BBM 6.1 is already in the appworld. I just updated to it this morning on my 9810 running leaked 7.1.0.190. Thanks for the heads up, btw cool2.gif

no,no, our telco confirm no update. i downgraded to official .585 O2 UK, the O2 got official 7.1 (since i can upgrade to 7.1, i assumed O2 have it). anyway, only certain telco in the world released their official 7.1, while others still testing it. just make sure u downgraded it correctly.

Wi-Fi Calling is a telco-dependent feature. Don't think we have it here in Malaysia. At least I don't see it on my phone (Digi postpaid).

It will void because, they will 'open' the Blackberry parts...

dissemble the blackberry itself will void the warranty ..

but, you still can try claim for warranty , If they not notice any changes...

They'll notice it if the people in LYP break your warranty sticker, which is 99% chance.

that's true , I don't think they will do their work carefully ,

I dont think that they will peel off the sticker carefully without damage the sticker , and then.. put it back after repair..

people still can try their luck to send it to service center after that anyway..

Added on January 11, 2012, 5:21 pmBTW it's only been 1 day for me with OS7.1 and already I am noticing slightly better battery consumption on my 9810. Still have 55% left at almost 5:30pm now, on 3G. The phone had left the charger at 7am this morning at 100%.

Tried many leaked OS on many different models and never had this problem. Never heard of this problem before also. Should be quite safe to install leaked OS.

If the person at the service centre wants to be nasty, upgrading to an unofficial OS will void the warranty. But of course, you can always undo it.

I admit, I have been very careless with my 9810. Some places on the plastic body have been chipped off, scratches are on practically every surface except the battery cover, screen and keyboard.

To add salt to my injury, just sliding up and down has already scratched the back panel of the LCD assembly. Now I know why I hate phones with moving parts.. vmad.gif vmad.gif

I even ordered a complete housing (OEM) from aliexpress for USD11 and it came looking even more cheaper-quality than the damaged ori housing on my phone. Sigh, I don't think I wanna void my 18mth Brightstar warranty for an el-cheapo (price and looks) housing.

I am gonna use (abuse?) my 9810 until it breaks or I break. Then I'm off to another BB, hopefully an upcoming BB10 device which has a more traditional form factor (ala 9900) and has a camera that actually focuses properly and last but not least, a battery larger that the p.o.s in the current OS7 devices..

totally agree with u bos!
the only parts that doesn't easily peeled off or scratched are batt.cover, lcd(with protector for sure), and keyboard! haha rclxms.gif

yeah, i also dont want to void my 18mths warranty by changing the housing. dats why i ask is there any paint touch up service available for bb?

or is there any method to prevent this problem? (other than protective case. they are so bulky!)

*
the reason why bb 9900 no auto focus because bbx will have auto focus. imagine, most fine built with auto focus, then bbx released, nothing special. sure ppl (especially 9900 user) dont want to upgrade smile.gif marketing strategy by BB ler.

got few spot on my 9810.
kinda annoyed to see that. haha

Use nail polish. I used it on my red torch, but finding the right colour would be quite a challenge.

dats why i ask is there any paint touch up service available for bb?

or is there any method to prevent this problem? (other than protective case. they are so bulky!)
*
It would be good if there is such a service smile.gif

I hate cases, especially those for the 9810 due to the slider design. Cases make my already ugly 9810 even uglier ha ha..

Err, the 9810's cam can auto focus.. It's ok la, I was initially very tempted to just use my 9810 until it breaks and then go for the 9900, but perhaps I will try to hold back and wait for BB 10 biggrin.gif

I don't mind selling it off at rm1k or a bit below that, but I don't have the budget for a new bb at the moment.

Btw, I think the 9981 will be crazy expensive, probably more than usd1000.

Already delete vendor.xml ?

1. Download the relevant OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named “vendor.xml.”
3. Plug in BB and double click on “Loader.exe.” It’s located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

try this if use official os

From your device's browser, go to mobile.blackberry.com. Select your country of choice, then go to Communicate>Email. Scroll down to Other Personal Email and click on Integrate Now, then Launch Email Setup. You should be able to integrate your e-mail accounts that way until RIM has fixed this issue.

if u backup in Blackberry Desktop Manager , it willl also backup your BBM contact ,[choose all things when backup]
