Check your line EDGE/3G or edge/3g

Go to manage connection > service status > blackberry connection should be 'mobile network'

Or go to option > device > advanced system setting > host routing table > then highlight GPRS MY(bold letter) press menu and register now

yup sure can use wifi without sim , for BBM you can use wifi but you need to register BIS at least once .

9800 and 9810 not much diff , just 9810 can use os 7 but 9800 cant.

when you use wifi data is not use . why you worried about data usage? bb compress the data so it take small mb when surfing etc etc
