The myth holds that the F40 was built to be faster than the 959, just because the Porsche beat the 288GTO in the top speed stakes.
The F40 was the first car to break the 200mph (320km/h) barrier.
Though having said that the 959 gets to 100km/h from standstill faster at 3.7 seconds because of its 4wd compared to the F40's 3.8 seconds.
Irony would have it that the 959 and F40 marked the two great divisions of the supercar world, with the 959's blend of long distance touring comfort and 4wd security spawning the supercar side where the Bugatti Veyron occupies. While the F40 would become the inspiration for the likes of the Porsche Carrera GT where lightweight begats performance.
Would love to have that in my collection though, you selling?
