QUOTE(chtan @ Nov 11 2012, 11:42 PM) Actually, its already in a month ago. It got mine last month. yeah i know. just want to notify TS to edit the post.Ok, here are some finding after upgraded mine M17x to Win8 Pro. Dark Soul now running perfectly. Previously problem was due to the Dsfix. After removing it, it runs perfectly again. Borderland2 is working as well now. It turns out that one of the .dll file from re-distribution library was missing. After putting it back everything is fine again. The only not working game is Sudden Attack. Oops, forgot to mention that if you plan to upgrade from Win 7 be careful about the .net 3.5 installation issue. There are a lot of people having problem re-installing .net3.5 in Win8 including me Luckily I am able to find the solution to this problem. It turns out that this is cause by a corrupted registry which halted the .net 3.5 installation. Go to command prompt (run with administrator) and type "Dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:c:\net35 /LimitAccess” to clean your registry. After you can proceed to install .net3.5 with no problem. |

QUOTE(Michaelbyz23 @ Dec 19 2012, 09:12 PM) guys, my m11x this morning died .. i will call dell after my exam. dang. i am so worried now ouh, pity for you. at least it lasted for 2 years.i turned it on, within split second there was smoke coming out from the bottom, the left side of m11x. near the fan there. and beeping non stop. i quickly unplugged the power supply, and it still beeps and smokes. i quickly opened the back panel, and then halfway through it stopped. i unplugged the batt, and plug back the power supply, not opening anymore. |

you cant expect things from the latest technology can last long. even if you use it without gaming, it would last 3 years at least. just my assumption.
however, if you are still under warranty, did you RMA it? This post has been edited by raymondtong94: Dec 20 2012, 10:10 AM |

QUOTE(Michaelbyz23 @ Dec 20 2012, 11:00 AM) anyways, any x51 users here, what are your idle temps and max temps for CPU? mine seems to go around 84 for max temps and 55-60 during idle. my room temperature is always 14-18Celcius range. im not a x51 user but can i ask, what is your cpu model? for sandy and ivy bridges, if im not wrong, the stock thermal grease is the culprit in overheating. This post has been edited by raymondtong94: Dec 20 2012, 06:33 PM |

QUOTE(Michaelbyz23 @ Dec 21 2012, 02:15 AM) my cpu is i7 3770 ivy bridge. yea ppl in forums also say the stock thermal paste is the main overheating issue, but still it is under intel's spec if its around 88celcius. yesterday ran cinebench for only about 3 min, this is what i get. normally i wont use stock thermal grease if i buy laptops or pre-built PCs. i would remove the stock cooler, clean the thermal grease, apply aftermarkets thermal grease and use back the stock cooler. that way wouldnt void the warranty.» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(Michaelbyz23 @ Dec 21 2012, 01:11 PM) hmm im not really good at these. how do you apply thermal paste for this aliewnare x51? Do you take off the cpu and clean first, then apply new aftermarket thermal paste? yes, just like how you do to a normal PC. dell support has the guide but the weird thing is, no images loaded to show the stuffs. as for thermal grease cleaning, i use pure alcohol and some old clothes to clean the grease. |

QUOTE(Michaelbyz23 @ Dec 21 2012, 02:46 PM) hmm, isit recommended for newbie like me to change the thermal paste myself? lol, scared will damage the processor or the thermal paste will leak around the proc and cause damange. no experience at all. hehe. so take out the cpu from the socket first, clean, put back, and put thermal paste? not recommended but depends on individual, some individual wants to learn the basics so they change the cooler/replace thermal grease by themselves. thermal grease could be made up of silver, diamond or other compounds. some thermal grease will dry or melt but wont flow to other parts of your computer. thermal paste is only applied after the cleaning process/before installing the heatsink. |

QUOTE(Michaelbyz23 @ Dec 30 2012, 01:41 AM) they replaced the motherboard, plastic palm rest, chassis etc. but there are 2 problems now. I am trying to get them fixed. the wiring mapping problem? lol.the fan is constantly blowing at high speed, and temperatures are high. gpu temperature is idling around 60c, CPU is idling around 50c, even though im just surfing net, or just leave the laptop unused. previously the idling temp is just around 35-40 for cpu and 40-45 for gpu. fan speed is always quiet unless i stress it up. second issue is the lighting got problem. the one at zone 3, the speaker light on the right hand side does not work properly. when i switch to red color, it turn purpple, when i switch off the lights, it become blue, doesnt switch off. the left hand side works fine, but the right hand speaker light problematic. already tried reinstalling the command center it doesnt hlep. i even reformatted to see if it solves the fan speed prob and the lighting, didnt solve at all. |
