Guys, just got a special offer from my friend's Alienware M17x. Spec. as below:

Window 7 home premium 64bit
I7 3840QM
Nebula red
8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 ram (2x4GB)
Nvidia GTX680M 2GB DDR5
17.3" WideFHD screen
2TB 5400rpm HD in raid 0
8x DVD +-rw
RM6700

I have grabbed the offer and will be delivered on next few days. Do you guys think this is a good offer?
Initially, I was eying on Samsung Series 7 Gamer which cost RM5999 but the GPU is only GTX675M. Since this unit spots GTX680M, I think should be worth it by topping up a little bit more.

Ok, received my M17x R4 this afternoon. Here are some photos I took with my mobile.
The box itself is really huge.

Opened up the huge box, there are two smaller boxes sitting inside:

Initially, I thought the one I bought is without 3D because of the super discount I got from my friend. But what a surprise.
The 3D goggle is there rclxm9.gif

It is the 3D Vision 2. Tried with some 3D test clip. The 3D is very pronounce and look so real. Better than my 3DS,lol.

Yesterday tested with Sleeping dogs benchmark, with everything on high and 3D enabled. It runs silky smooth with average fps stays on 55++.

Planned to upgrade mine soon but a bit worry about software compatibility. Any idea which 3D player is good for Nvidia 3D vision 2?

not sure about 3D.

For windows 8, before you install it, the assistant will run a test to check compatibility and if any software isn't compatible, you have to uninstall them before you can proceed the installation.

The upgrade is easy, you dont need to reinstall anything, just simple installation + restart.

Thanks for the reply.

Anyway, found the app. to play the 3D movie, stereoscopic player can get the job.

Well, just ordered my Windows 8 upgrade for my M17x. Hopefully it won't crash any of my game.
One question though, can i still use my 3D vision 2 after the upgrade?

Ok, updated mine to Windows 8 Pro. Everything is fine except it broke some of my games. Dark Soul loaded but fine until title, no display when in game. Borderland2 and Sudden Attack totally won't load.
Diablo 3, Dishonored and Crysis2 works fine though.

is it worth to get the alienware laptop now ? i checked on dell its only going for 3999 right now ...i5 though ...im new to alienware is there better deals?

If you know anybody from inside Dell, ask them to get 1 for you. Its way cheaper this way. I got my M17x+GTX680M only at RM6600, while the web easily goes for RM9800

Actually, its already in a month ago. It got mine last month.

Ok, here are some finding after upgraded mine M17x to Win8 Pro. Dark Soul now running perfectly. Previously problem was due to the Dsfix. After removing it, it runs perfectly again.
Borderland2 is working as well now. It turns out that one of the .dll file from re-distribution library was missing. After putting it back everything is fine again.
The only not working game is Sudden Attack.

Oops, forgot to mention that if you plan to upgrade from Win 7 be careful about the .net 3.5 installation issue. There are a lot of people having problem re-installing .net3.5 in Win8 including me sweat.gif
Luckily I am able to find the solution to this problem. It turns out that this is cause by a corrupted registry which halted the .net 3.5 installation.
Go to command prompt (run with administrator) and type "Dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:c:\net35 /LimitAccess” to clean your registry. After you can proceed to install .net3.5 with no problem.

You direct upgrade or clean install? I did mine m14x R2 clean install , the only problem is the Alienware OSD wont work eventhough theres a guide for installing it from Dell  doh.gif

Got it fixed. And everything back to normal. Not a single problem and all the buttons work as well.

May I ask m14x R2 users who are playing Diablo3, what is the max settings you currently using?

Is it smooth running D3 with all settings max out?
*
Actually, D3 requirement is very modest. Even my 5years old phenom9550 with ati5870 can Max it with no problem at all.
Strangely, my M17x with 680M can still feel a slight lag on occasion hmm.gif Think might be the raided harddisk setup is the culprit.

Anyone interested in M17x with GTX680M, 8GB RAM, 2TB HD, 120Mhz 1920x1080 HD LED with 3D vision 2. The one exactly with the same spec. like my? I know there is another unit up for grabbing directly from inside Dell. Only @ RM6800. They prefer direct face to face deal though.
