To clarify; using it as a cache drive. games all go into the 1 TB drive. Can upgrade the SSD in the future. No point getting it at Dell's prices  brows.gif

I install games straight to SSD.

Wish I had desk space to have 2-3 monitor setup, had to get rid of my monitors because of space issues. I move about a lot these days, so have to just depend on the 17" on the laptop.

Oh well, perhaps someday can have 3 x 30s sitting around. Haha

Always get the max protection, complete cover for 3 years for mine just in case kena lightning, or my kid spills water on the laptop or whatever. It's a life saver!

Models you can get from Dell, I'd suggest getting it locally.

Only one that might be a problem is M18x.

btw guys do you use the custom alienware windows or install a fresh clean windows 7 and modify it to ur needs? I think alienware windows 7 is bloated with not required applications and plugins or patches wht not...

suggestions? smile.gif I prefer a very fast n smooth windows experience with a little bling.
*
Installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, the SSD hard drive, the RAM immediately when I got the machine, but I do have a few alienware customisations left like the wallpaper, login screen, etc. I uninstalled most of the other stuff.

and the total costs for whole laptop?
*
If I'm not mistaken, x.8k for the machine from dell, 2k for other stuff.

Think I got a 10% discount from the total price, plus an additional discount of RM260+ a week after I ordered because they dropped the price or made some configuration change in the site. Also got the standard alienware back pack.

I followed instructions here and here

Shows how to get the login screen option back, the wallpapers, the avatars, registry settings, etc. I installed autopsy back but I guess we don't really need it much. Machine is still as fast as when I bought it smile.gif

If those are the new changes, then it's disappointing. Not too sure about the keyboard, AW is known for the flash. So we'll have to see. The air filters/vents are fine but if they're trying to dumb the flash down, then might as well go for the other laptops out there. Other than the build quality, AW has flash going for it.

Plus they're already removed tons of lighting options for their newer models that were on the older models. Bah!

Btw, anyone know what SSD that Alienware/Dell will put in their product like X51?

Local Dell loves putting in Seagate SSDs last communication.

Gosh, not Samsung P830?

I found that oversea is using tat SSD sad.gif
*
Yes, the US primarily uses Samsung.

Not Malaysia. No way I was going to pay RM2200 for a 220/240gb SSD from Dell Malaysia.

Nothing confirmed yet, it could also just be something made by someone on the forums for fun smile.gif They do a lot of mods.

But if that is real, a lot of people going to go buy Sager or something.

Lol ... i had ordered the X51 model with 256GB SSD. At first wanna asked the Dell Sales to whether can replace to normal HDD or not but they said can't.

But since I got the Free 2 monitor and 10% discount, I guess, might just offset with it sad.gif

But the Seagate brand SSD good ?
*
It's alright, but it's not breaking any records or known to be dependable like the Crucials/Samsungs.

I got this new one with windows 7. I don't really care about windows as I always use my personal modified windows biggrin.gif So usually the windows I get with my laptops go to waste lol.

I dont like windows 8. Windows 7 ultimate edition treats me very well smile.gif

They could improve upon the ventilation, my M17x is constantly propped up by a thick book (1.5 inches). Works great during long gaming sessions.
