I can swear that swiftlets do eat house flies but whether or not, that the house flies are part of normal diet of swiftlet; that for the researchers to tell us.

Cow dung do attract flies but swiftlets shits do this, too and yesterday, I was sending 6 bags full of bird shits to a friend's BH @ Pekan for free......fuel almost cost me RM100 but what's that for a friend!

Reaching the BH and immediately, flies gather around me like I am Papa coming to feed them......fresh shit are always the best...after handling the shit; now, my fingers still smell like shit or just my imagination.

Added on May 19, 2012, 2:16 pmF to Dr **, I phoned up the bank and asked about the loan and was told that it's base on the 20% of the land but remember not on the your buying of the land but the valuation of the land. BH cannot be mortgage even for a cent and the land that I bought for over Rm300,000 can only get me a Rm20K loan.....

Anyone get BH loan from Agro Bank??? The lady asked me to get a maybe 50 acres or 100 acres land to mortgage for the BH...maybe, other got better contact with the Bank......as Malay used to say"Orang Kita".

I am not yet at the stage where I can be picked on. I have put everything on hold.

My 2 bit assessment of the present situation ...in question form

A)EBN purity ie 30 ppm - China requirement
1)is this level doable economically?
2)Is it a processor/exporter responsibility or they will pass some responsibilities back to the BH owners?
Will you accept the responsibility w/o scientific basis ie there some things you can do to reduce the level?
Whose going to fund the scientific research to base them on?

B)1GP ...remember this cos it will come back to bite our behinds
1)What have each local authority decided on each of the requirements?
It's been a long while.
If i were you I will go kick the local assoc to go press the PBTs for their initial recommendations NOW.
Force your way in into the consultations. Better now then later.

C)As CK pointed out...demand has yet to rebound.
If one intend to sit around and wait it will be a long one.
One will need to each figure out some self help.

IMHO these above issues will stay even if BN is booted out.
If BN stay there will the other non value add stuff like the GPS tracker lah, special box lah, RFID lah etc...
AND the worst of them all.....the purchasing cartel.

You said you used rotten fruit before, does it helps increase the population of the bh for you?
I've been using them for 4months now, there's a lot of small fruit flies all over my BH roving area but my bh population not increasing SINCE i used them.. why? Is it the birds in my area(oilpalm covering radius 5km+)are already so stuffed they ignore those fruit flies?
And yeah i let them rot and the juice is over the container now, whole BH smells like orange enzymes@@

My bh is infront of a 5acre lake, birds come to drink a lot.
Anyone mind sharing me any home recipe for bh aroma??

Agro Bank only give 20% loan on land valuation? May be some Datuk Fart n cronies can get 110%+free BHs construction. Public bank quoted like 60-70% of land valuation, BLR+1.x%.

Nowadays so many xx-universities mushroom all over the country. Graduates came out all tak laku, paper qualification also in question, cannot write proper Ingglis. Education fund have to channel some where ma, else how to feed so many members ... end of the day, future generation in trouble. Who cares

Since nothing to do so talking about Cow Dung, neighbors seem to take kindly to cow dung but never for bird shit. If you put only a bag full of bird shit, your neighbors will complain but not a lorry load of cow dung like Cow dung free from harmful bacteria or fungus.

My recommendation that if you want to put bird shit for your plants in your garden and doesn't want to offend your neighbors, dig a small hole and bury your shit; this way there will be no smell and everyone happy.

Remember, bird shit are the best for plants and I assure you that you plants will grow bigger and stronger but remember never put bird shit near root cos BS are salty I believe and the plant may die. A little of BS goes a long way. If you can encourage folks to use BS instead of artificial fertilizer, very soon, we will all be interested in the BS instead of BN as BN maybe a thing of the past if you get my breeze if they don't do well in these few months.........Hahahaha

Seriously, if all use the BS, BS may sell as high as Rm30/Kg........then I shall get a few thousand a month, then I don't mind you calling me shitman instead of birdman...hahahaha but not until BS can sell as high as Rm30/kg.

Bird shit is very light when dry but also contains a lot of visibly large particles, dead beetles etc. All these makes the finished product look "unprofessional"

So first we need to get the BS finely ground, which is not difficult as the particles are not hard. Just a roller type grinder will be efficient enough.

The product is then mixed with a binder like starch, seaweed, etc which will help with keeping the pellets together.

This is then well mixed with hot water and 'cooked' to kill bacteria as well as turn it into a thick paste.

The thick paste is then extruded into long 'sausages' which will break as it dries, forming pellets.

There are several 'Chicken Manure' factories already doing this. The 'all in one' machines are used to make animal feed, fertilizer pellets etc. are probably available from China or Taiwan or made in Malaysia.

When the BHs in my area matures, I might consider such a factory.

BN as in our lifeline, Bird Nest.

On another BN, I wish them luck as they need them now...Ambiga is true patriot and leader of rare quality.

Indonesia is still under the watch of WHO on bird flu case unless BN was delinked from bird flu to which I've not been posted.

How much does the tracking system cost? Include the maintainance?

Curse those 3 idiots in the article. Seriously, another 1st in the world, 1st to track BN using RFID! (must be to damn pround!! )

So these jokers are assuming the contents in the box cannot be switched from beginning until end, which makes the RFID box completely useless. Way to go, an idea that only BN cronies can come up with. Excuse to con the rakyat of their hard earned $$$$.

In this coming election these ppl need to be sent home and never show their faces again. I'm at a loss of words how can such a flawed idea be implemented and being forced down our throats.

Supposedly, we are among the 2 countries that enjoy the right to export EBN to China and now, we may end up being the only country facing difficulties to export to China.........

Maybe, someone here got connection with Singapore EBN producers, we will sell our nests to Singapore and we don't mind Malaysian Nests being refer to "Product of Singapore or Singapore Birdnests" at least we shall get better price with Singaporean, I think. Our other agriculture products are labeled "Products of Singapore" anyway.

What distance should my vent hole be from my nesting planks to not make the birds feel unsafe? My BH is 10 feet high.
Currently im testing the lowest floor with vent hole 3 feet from the floor(it's 3 feet from nesting planks in the first place)
The room currently is without any nest whereas 2nd and third already have 20++ each == so someone pls help!!

CHUA ( son of MCA President), he is the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro Based Industries, so he shouldn't be involved in the EBN buz and if he did, he must has make a serious mistake. If it's the truth, he now must double the effort to solve the EBN problems or esle, his political future is very blur. His motto "Voice of the young Generation" and no wonder that old men can't get to him cos I am of the old Chua generation. So, Young people of Johor esp of Labis and Segamat, go and talk to him and get him to save our Future or else, this election will see his downfall.
