When times are good, nest crumbs and bird shit are also in strong demand. but now it seems a dirty job to clean and harvest inside the farms..Sigh.

Well good news is my recent trip to China revealed that prices in China are still high and there I was advised to bring nest into China by all means instead of considering other ventures in China.

Can any kind soul advise which reliable freezer should I get for storing my clean/raw nests? Cost-effective if possible.

I was surprised and saddened by the news...I knew there was this man called Charles thru Pak Hen's seminar in Jakarta in year 2010 and later found his bold plan to help the poor thru his blog and from there I was invited to join in the help for the poor and a discussion group later for the BN industry. But after some online correspondences, the line just went off without a clue...Sigh, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

http://opinions.sinchew.com.my/node/26435 -Bird Nest Branded by Malaysian.

Korea Ginseng is branded even if Korea is not the biggest producing country of Ginseng in the world. So, would you like our elected Govt to promote Bird Nest the way they did wonders to Korea Ginseng in Korea? Cars, electronic devices and even "Gangnam Style" in Malaysia way too in future? Put your vote to good use in coming GE, It's your future you bet on....

and stop killing sharks for fins...I found it nice to see groom, bride and the gang perform "Gangnam Style" on the stage at a wedding dinner last night. But I regret to see sharks continue to be killed for fins and served at the table. When will Bird Nest deserves a promotion on these occasions, I wonder? Do the power of association ever gives some thoughts about it? Or do the authority care to protect the lifeline of all the poor farmers, I wonder again?

Though we may not have created someone like PSY of Gangnam Style just yet but we've built a "brand" called Wong Tack, a true local hero of the environment.

We get too paranoid to see any thing that isn't tranparent in our bowl nowadays, don't we? or we just see red even if they are not RED?

My advice to the host or restaurant operator is dim the light when bird nest are served. Meanwhile, let the guests enjoy "Gangnam style" show while they savour them...LOL

There is NO place like Sandakan when you speak of swiftlets, bats, orangutans, marine life...they are all worthy of promotion and exploration, IMO. Sandakan is the place to be for the swiftlets, bats or even orangutans world convention due to forest and cave systems there. Maybe stormy weather to subside or does not recur in the eyes of the world??

According to National Geographic, 38 millions sharks killed for fins annually...
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...hark-fin_2.html

and the alternatives...

So, will bird's nest soup delicacy go to the masses now if not for the price but for a good cause, shark conservation?

Not sure what causes that but it sure is a tedious job to clean these dots and for that very reason, they will cut you down further with the current market sentiment.

On news about upcoming Psy's performance in Penang? Hmm...how and since when has BN been associated with Psy's Gangnam Style there? I thought BN will be best served when Psy's Gangnam Style is staged at all dinners in whole Malaysia? LOL. Well, for pure and natural BN, I am wearing YELLOW and GREEN; RED during CNY festival. HAPPY CNY TO ALL!

A good and auspicious day for all Malaysian as this could be the final rally for all farmers?

Empress in palace or the Legend of Zhen Huan ใ€Š็”„ๅฌ›ไผ ใ€‹during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) has marched into US and the health benefits of bird nest was referred to in a few occasions on this most popular TV drama series of 2012.

Speaking of movie? Jack, the Giant Slayer, a fairy tale about a brave farm boy's fights against giant for the kingdom and love of a princess...We seem to have a screen plot that happened here in the fight for raw, uncleaned bird nest to be cleared for export under a free market framework. The "Giants" as they so claimed they are and with blessings from the authority played down the fight for all nest to be cleared for export from the little
guys but ended up being a laughing stock themselves one after another.

I praise the little guys' courage to put up a good fight against the "Giants" and bring pride and dignity once again to this great country of ours afterall we need to get back on our feet ever since the perfect storm broke out.

To little guys, you are the man like Abraham Lincoln said, โ€œI like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.โ€

I hardly can believe that unless WHO told me so...LOL

H5N1 is sensitive to heat as many others. this virus can also be present in frozen poultry. it is safe to consume as long as it has been cooked properly(70ยฐC in all parts of the food).

But proper cooking may not be enough protection when it comes to delicacies of raw poultry products. In Vietnam, and most Asian countries, the risk is higher because of the way they eat, they tend to eat fresh rather than frozen. So when these poultry are transported and traded live, the virus also goes with them; Delicacies such as โ€œhalf hatchedโ€ duck eggs is a popular among vietnamese and in year 2005, three bothers contracted bird flu after drinking raw duck blood in Vietnam.(Googled)

In the case of captivated farming, not only the virus are easily transmitted, the feeds produced from a genetically modified organism will probably do more harm than good to our well-being; We've have been introduced to too many antibiotics to combat the diseases nowadays and these antibiotics will deteriorate our immune system faster than normally thought. I'm glad to see Nano Silver is also used in bird house other than Effective Microorganism(EM) as they can be effective to combat virus and bacteria and at a much lesser cost and more environment friendly.

So, captivated breeding of swiftlets should NEVER the route to prosperity.

swift4ever, you make it sound so beautifully. TQ

WW, Thanks for your kind words.

Like philoswiftlet said, When the goings get tough, the tough gets going. Never let our
guard down against all attacks including bird flu in our farms and beside Nitrite, we have
to remove entirely the microorganism such as Coliform/E-coli/Salmonella and others that
existed in our raw, uncleaned or cleaned BN, cut down Yeast/Mold count to the allowable.
Like Nitrite, we strike to cut it to the minimum (30ppm and below) starting from the
source, our bird farms by good husbandry practices such as clearing guano regularly, using
good microorganism(EM) and maintaining good ventilation throughout the farms and other
measures as when needed.

It's all in the hope of improving our bird farms and rebranding our BN so that it will flourish under a truly people/farmer's first foundation whereby needs of many outweigh few not vice versa. Just my 2ยข.

My another concern is the widely usage of aroma spray in bird house. One of the main ingredient in making aroma is fishmeal. Many established poultry feedmills have stopped using fishmeal as protein source because it contains Salmonella bacteria.  Perhaps our birdnest association should do some bacterial tests on these aroma as we may be contaminating the wood prank and birdnests with Salmonella.  The consequence is definitely more serious than nitrate problem.
*
How irony those who make aroma also get themselves infected, I found. The use of it in bird farms should NEVER be encouraged.

Thank you for giving other precautionary advice and tips.

just to add that when it is a "reverse takeover", raining cats and dogs continuously for days. insects are affected by the stormy weathers will also result in swiftlets starve to death in bird farms but not necessarily infected by diseases. I guess.

Nevertheless, no matter how the weather is, I think we should keep the bird farms dry and ventilated rather than damp as diseases or mold tend to grow in a damp places. Maintain a low to moderate humidity accordingly is just my view.

This is somewhat off topic but I must say in this upcoming 505 GE, every folks here is needed in making a better future for our BN(BIRD NEST) and our country as we are bracing ourselves for a stormy weather that still goes on with no end in sight for quicker solution wherein representatives of various organizations and relevant authorities with no concern for the needs of majority work behind closed doors for their own self interests have brought shame to our country...I got to say "Thank You" China for saying "NO" to manipulated market economics but "YES" to free market economics in bird's nest trade.

Thankfully I see wind of change is blowing from southern tip of peninsula now and you may recall the 308 tsunami in 2008 is originated from the north and proceeded to center stopped at N9. But this time, I won't be surprised that tsunami 2013 resonates more powerfully than ever from the south and across the south china sea to whole of Malaysia. So folks, brace yourselves for the tsunami of the the century! Let's put an end to "I HELP YOU, YOU HELP ME- RAKYAT FOOT THE BILL" corrupt culture in OLD Malaysia, usher in NEW Malaysia in 505...

On BN export, kudos to our newly appointed Malaysian-China trade ambassador former MCA
head who said he has no interest in BN trade business whatsoever; is merely trying to help the industry.

yet proven mathematically it isn't, read link below,

Anyhow, I promise to foretell what tsunami it is in

future...LOL

With or without Chinese in the ministerial post, there will not

be a problem if it is truly 1Malaysia...

If president Lincoln's policy on national unity and reconciliation is still relevant today, then our new cabinet should include talents from opposition parties...Nah, that's probably just my wishful thinking and besides, I've not seen the movie just yet. lol

I don't think you will always clear the custom without a spot check, WW. What are you going to do when officials in-charge stop you? you must have a very good excuse and you know Singapore has tough cigarette smugglering law. If you en-route to country via Singapore, declare your goods with GST paid and claim back your GST at the point of exit. Do your own due diligence as I've not tried it. Hopefully those who did before can share with us here the proper procedures.

Some fun calculation i made today.
China has 1.1 billion people. Let's say 1 person eat 1 piece a year(i assume they only eat during chinese new year!). That translate to 1 billion pieces.(i ignore another 100 millions)

1 000 000 000 pieces/ 150 pieces per kg = 6,666,666 kgs @ 6666 tonnes.
According to this report, world production in 2010 is 1450 tonnes and 70% produced by indonesia. Assume now world production is 2000 tonnes. It is still far from 6666 tonnes.  biggrin.gif
Now we slash the population to half which is 500 million people. We still need 3333 tonnes of clean bird nest. The actual production need to include 20% wastage to provide a cleaned nest figure instead of raw.

This figure only include China consumers.  icon_rolleyes.gif. One family (10 members) buy 5 pieces of bird nest for chinese new year reunion. It will need 3000 tonnes?  biggrin.gif

Only if you tie fun charts in with fun calculation, well, that's a strong indication that it is an investment of the decades. Hmm..Gonna sleep like a little baby, wet the bed and suck the thumb dreaming of the cash windfall tonight.LOL
