Indonesia ready to import six stars

Indonesia are looking to give their 2014 World Cup qualifying hopes a boost by handing passports to six players, making them eligible to play for the national team.

Adelaide United's Sergio van Dijk and Utrecht's Stefano Lilipaly headline the list which also includes GVVV's Tonnie Cusell, and local-based players Jhonny van Beukering (Pelita Jaya), Greg Nwokolo (Persija Jakarta) and Victor Chuckwuekezie Igbonefo (Persipura Jayapura).

Indonesia's next World Cup qualifier is against Qatar on October 11, and while former national team technical director Iman Arif admits they will not be naturalised in time for that match, he believes it will not take long for them to receive clearance.

"In the game against Qatar, they can not play," Iman told kompas.com. "But in November, they can strengthen the squad.

"But it all depends on the coach, whether they go to the national team or not."

And while Iman reveals all the players could be sworn in as citizens as early as October 10, he admits some players may take longer to finalise the necessary paperwork.

"The oath depends on arrival of the player [in Indonesia], as with Sergio van Dijk, he has to go to Indonesia from Australia to complete the naturalisation process.

"It can take time."

Indonesia are no strangers to recruiting foreigners to play for the national team, with Uruguayan-born striker Cristian Gonzalez the most recent example.
