nope... it IS all about putting your body weight into the strokes. Ang Moh dont do it cos they know they are bigger in size and slower. If they do it they cant recover as fast as the smaller Asian players.

When they cant recover as fast they will lose many points. You cant see ang Mohs react as fast as Asians. Thats why they always stand way back after service in order to be able to cover more ground against the faster Asians.

I saw a video in Youtube about how to generate power. Relax your fingers and grip...and right before contact with the ball only you unleash your force. Same as Karate punch. Its physics.

QUOTE(tsd @ Jan 10 2019, 11:07 AM) not just physics, its biology as well. I am not sure you notice or not, if you put the last 3 fingers are tight together, your wrist cannot turn freely, if they are separated and and lose, your wrist can turn freely. One of my coach last time spend a lot of time with fingers, just thought I share some of the things I learn last time with you guys. Thx for the advice! |

sad to see so many PING PONG enthusiasts scattered all over the country. Luckily I still managed to have a Mat Salleh friend who plays it with me twice a week in his KL condo. The only headache is I am a lot better than him and I cant improve if I continue to play with weak players.
There are 2 other mainland Chinese residents there who also play....they are at least better than him...but I really hoped to play against good players so I can improve. The only way to improve is to play against players better than me. |

QUOTE(chongski @ Jan 24 2019, 11:24 PM) If your friend is willing to learn and has desire to get better, you could teach him and help him to get better. Then you would have a better player to play with. Otherwise, weak player can never improve. But I understand your feeling, its less fun if the standard between 2 players are too huge. The gap is very big. He cant even return my side spin serves. The ball go flying out of the table. I taught him how to receive, yet he still cant The common scenario is that the good players don't like to play against the weak players and the weak players don't have opportunity to improve by playing against the good players. |

QUOTE(tsd @ Jan 25 2019, 07:43 AM) Get a long pimple bat or a dead rubber for him to use, then you can have a lot of practice to improve yourself. If you send a heavy spin to his long pimple, you get back strong spin also, that way you can practice on your own strength. But be careful, you may even lose.. haha You have to adjust yourself to the return of long pimple which is normally opposite of what you send earlier, you can also practice reading ball flight and ball bounce pattern from this kind of training partner. Ball bounce pattern reading is very useful playing against players with strange service where you cant see his serve, you only have chance to see how the ball fly and bounce on your table to determine the type of spin+strength and decide what to return. wow you are very knowledgeable about Long pips! My handshake paddle has long pips on 1 side and smooth rubber on the other. It is a Defensive paddle. I dont know how to use long pips yet....but I am trying it for fun la. If he ask you how to use long pimple, it is quite easy to operate. When played near table. for backspin ball, hold the pimple bat slightly open then do a quick jab at the incoming backspin ball, the ball will return nicely to the other side. for a topspin/sidespin ball, hold the pimple bat slightly close angle and do a quick jab at the top-spin ball and ball will also return nicely to the other side. The angle of bat he will have to adjust for the accuracy. If the ball is far away from table, ask him to do a big chop with the long pimple, easier to control from far with chop for this type of rubber. I am not a long pimple player, I only know how to use it at very basic level, advanced long pimple players have different techniques. You can improve yourself by playing against such setup because you are more or less playing against whatever you want, the spin is controlled by you. It is easier for him to return your shots also, he will have no problem returning your service or any spinny shots you give him. If he insist of using grippy rubber, you can still improve by playing with. His strokes are more or less harmless... usually weak and near the net, you can practice a lot of backhand and forehand flicks, which usually you wont have much chance to practice if you play with good players. My JPEN is a fast offensive Paddle with pretty strong reaction. |

QUOTE(tsd @ Jan 25 2019, 08:23 AM) another way is to train by yourself, get yourself a ball catcher net ( you can make or buy the ready made ). Buy 100 pcs of training ball and simply toss ball and send across to the net with various kind of shots. You can also do alot of service practice with the ball catcher. I dont have Ping Pong Table As for me, I make my own ball catcher as in the picture below. Since I do not play outside anymore, I practice on my own at home for at least 30 mins each day when I am not having any finger problems. Just to keep myself healthy and in touch with the game. ![]() You can buy or make it yourself. It is fairly cheap and easy to make, all you need is 2 pcs of PVC pipe ( can get from any hardware shop, 9ft cost less than RM5 each ), mosquito net ( get from MR DIY ), 2 F-clamps. The whole thing cost you less than RM50. The difficult part is to bend the PCV pipe, you can use heat gun if you have or just use your stove. Of cos easiest is to buy one, save you time and get a more professionally built ball catcher. For ready made ones, I am not sure got cheaper ones or not. I just simply do a search and found this https://shopee.com.my/BALL-CATCHER-NET-i.49370283.1848650121 |
