posted in v3 few months back asking for advise on my first watch between a tissot classic dream and a seiko chrono... ended up with this baby but of course nothing compares to the big boy toys discussed here...heh now that I'm hooked on these beautiful time piece I'm already planning for a 2nd one but it'll be a beater...notice also most of the discussion here are on mechanical movement...anyone here would prefer quartz instead? I'm looking for a casual/slightly sporty 42-44mm round watch...sapphire crystal and has no preferece on leather/bracelet band...i'd love to get a seiko but most on my budget range (<1k) are none sapphire...pls correct me if i'm wrong...is the crystal really that easy to get scratched? I'm not ready to go into mechanical because firstly most are out of my budget range and I'm not sure yet if I know how to maintain it..servicing?maintenance? Also open for pre-own ones too... thanks and sorry for the many questions...

QUOTE(deriku @ Feb 8 2012, 04:37 PM) Mechanical watches are not expensive at all, just take a look at the Seiko thread. Many Seiko automatics available in the sub-500 range. Orient also offers automatics for a similar price point. For Swiss made watches you are limited to mostly quartz. Brands like Tissot, Hamilton, Victorinox etc offer entry level models. If you don't mind German-made watch with a Citizen movement, can consider Laco pilot watch. I have one for sale though you'll have to wait until late Apr to get the watch thanks mate for the info, yeah there are mechanical which are within my budget but I've not seen any with sapphire crystal. I'm expecting a quartz due to my budget and requirement for sapphire coz I'm a little paranoid seeing the watch face getting any scratch lol... would love yo check out your laco, PM me when you think it's ready ya? I assume it's with a mineral crystal?

I've got a few friends who're cerutti owner but non WIS. No complains so far...
like how Chinoz says...go with what you like...you are already willing to part with your hard earn cash..2k is alot of money so you should please yourself rather than other people. Of course if you can splash out 20-30k instead then it'll be a different story all together. You can please yourself as well as showing off too lol.
+1 for the seamaster too...

QUOTE(sk-88 @ Apr 26 2012, 12:12 PM) U can get it from here: http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/Nav-B-Ch...-black,211.htmlThis is mine.. Got it directly from Steinhart. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « mate...was the total cost EU303 + 30 to Malaysia? I'm also looking at the steinhart pilots...any wrist shot? I'm a little concern that the 47mm is too large..it's almost going to look too huge for me when I tested the luminox 1879 which is also 47mm...I have a 7.25' wrist...

QUOTE(MeToo @ Apr 26 2012, 02:47 PM) Or you can buy from here and get a GST refund when you fly back to Msia http://www.gnomonwatches.com/Isn't it still cheaper compare to buying from steinhart website directly?

QUOTE(MeToo @ Apr 26 2012, 10:30 PM) buying direct from steinhart is slightly cheaper... but after factoring your GST refund (not everyone fly into sg) then its more or less the same. The advantage is i can actually see how the watch look on me etc... rather then just blindly ordering from the web and take all the associated risk I see...pls correct me if I'm wrong so the list price stated in gnomon is including gst? Do you know the percentage of the gst? Thanks!

QUOTE(sk-88 @ Apr 27 2012, 10:26 AM) Bro, u r right EU303+30(Fedex) to your door. I also had the same worried about the 47mm, i initially want the 44mm but no stock, so gamble on the 47mm, luckily its fits nicely on my 7.5" wrist. Here r some of the pics as per your request. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Beautiful...thanks for sharing...appreciate it...

Gents I'm just looking at jacksontse's site and noticed many of them with the Chinese 6498 movement. Can I safely assume it also means that it can be a direct swap with the Swiss Unitas 6498 too? (FB-3009-HF from ofrei.com) Despite the fact that the movement is costing more than the watch Specification Movement Manual mechanical 6498 movement Hand-winding Power Reserve 56 Hour (after full winding) 21,600 alternations /hour. Thanks! This post has been edited by putterbit: May 2 2012, 04:24 AM

just got my semi grail...comes originally with the rubber strap.. looking for some opinion on how to give it a more casual look which would work with even tee shirt/jeans..what's your thought on this rivet-ed strap?does it run very off with this little pilot-ish hint?

QUOTE(magnifizio @ Jun 17 2012, 06:45 PM) Has anyone ordered watch straps directly from Crown & Buckle? Shipped by USPS First Class. Risky but it's cheap so gave it a shot. Was wondering if anyone actually received their parcel? Never buy from crown & buckle before but my last 3 shipment from US via first class arrived without any problem. Have 1 more coming in which the stupid seller decided to post my rm600 worth of item with first class...long story anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed until twisted already...
