Greetings,

Guess after reading few pages, I got the idea on how to choose watch but still, I'm not that good in deciding things.

Hope you suggest suitable brand,type based on this list;

Budget ; < RM 500
I'm a student.

Movement; Non-quartz
Really need a winding-type watch. I do remember how hard it is when in semester exam, the watch dead.

From what I learn, mostly Casio and Citizen fit in this area. Any other?

Thank you.

Try seiko 5, I think the cheapest you can get for self winding type

Can anyone recommend me a watch which has the following feature : Gold PLATING exterior (not real gold) , brown leather-like strap? , skeleton type, not too big cz I'm quite skinny.

Not looking for any fancy brands, just looking for something under 1k or around there ??

From the mouth of the irresistible Watch snob himself  rclxms.gif

Hello Watch Snob,

What is your feeling about Breitling watches? I believe they utilize an “in-house” movement, are Certified Chronometers and have other unique characteristics.

If I had to describe my feelings toward Breiting in one word, it would be a resounding “Meh.” To be clear, most of their watches do not use in-house movements. In fact, the vast majority of Breitling use ETA/Valjoux movements, just like Franck Muller. They have released an impressive chronograph movement in the past year or two, but it has only been rolled out to one or two models, including the Chronomat -- the ugliest watch they make. So, if you want to spend $8,000 (roughly the same as you would on the Rolex Daytona!) on an ugly Breitling, then sure, you can get one with an in-house movement. I will say, even though it uses an ETA movement, I have nothing but love for Breitling’s Navitimer. That, dear reader, is the Breitling you want.

But really... which particular Brietling are you lusting after?

They have leather but a few only and not so good looking in my opinion. Besides, their clean and simple looks makes they more suit into rubber straps, making them very suitable in daily to daily basis watch. It's a nice watch actually and plus its automatic.

Yeah try tissot, I think tissot got plenty of nice leather dressy watch.

Everywhere I looked on the interweb, the debate about Panerai's tend to get nasty and frankly not very informative besides beating the dead horse so I hope the guru's here can help enlighten me a bit.

Below are my 2 cents..

Personally I think Panerai's looks good and they seem very popular and like THE watch to wear these days and like you said, new movements and I really like the idea of a ceramic case (like my boss punya)

But rich history?

According to the interweb, they made like 300+ watches for the Italian Navy (not exactly the best fighting force in WW2) until the contract got canned.

What about Hamilton Field Khaki's that were issued to WWII GI's... or the Rolex/Omegas that were smuggled into Britain to be issued to RAF Spitfire pilots during the darkest hour or the Seiko issued to Kamikaze pilots (wait... that won't sell) and Seiko divers favored by GI's in Vietnam that worked in the paddy fields and during love you long long time sessions. Or the modern timex, g-shocks etc favored by Navy SEALs etc and our own PASKAL? All those also can claim even richer history  laugh.gif

Bit more military trivia... the Germans, British and Japanese also used commando manned torpedoes during the war though typical for Japanese forces in that era... they more garang and kamikaze with the torpedo and their seikos.  doh.gif

And the final thing I don't understand is ..... an Italian watch?

I know OP's now Swiss but while Italians have great aesthetic designs, they're aren't exactly brilliant with mechanical stuff and neither are they the ideal image of a patient watchmaker (I've been working with them for the past 10 years  doh.gif  )

But respect-lah.. marketing coup d'etat of the century. Not easy to pull something like this off.

Good information. thumbup.gif

This change my perspective on judging watch, I should look upon their history too, not their looks and prices.

Thanks for the heads up but mostly their size is 44mm and up. It will look bulky on my wrist if I wear them.

I really like the panerai bell n rose looks. Do they have the 40mm size below ?

Just wondering and no intention to buy because it is way wayy to pricey to me as a student.
