On topic, getting annoyed that despite Msia supposedly to be tax free for watches, I'm still getting cheaper prices down in Singapore! 

On the topic of places with most attractive prices, I have heard HK is also a good place to hunt for mid-high end watches. Any comments/experiences to share?

My boss got his Submariner Date there for a significant discount a couple years back.

A new watch for hubby this Christmas. Cannot decide. IWC Portofino or Pilot Mark XVI. Can give suggestions? At the moment he got a metal TAG HUER.

As I know,not all automatic watches support handwinding.You have to check if your model supports it. As for number of turns, it depends on your engine. If you could list down your model, maybe sifus here can advise you...

Have been reading this thread and looking at the links on the first page trying to find my first mechanical watch. My idea of the ideal watch was for it to have brown leather straps, white face, roman numerals and blue hands.
The problem I had was that my wrists were quite thin and could only pull off watches which were between 38mm - 40mm. After days and nights of searching the links of the homages and on ebay for pictures of my ideal watch, I decided to lower my requirements and narrowed it down to the Raymond Weil Maestro series.

I initially considered buying through ebay from one of the grey sellers, however given it was my first time buying a mechanical watch, I decided it wasn't worth the risk of dissapointment should the actual watch be not what I imagined it to be based on the pictures displayed. Today I went to Sincere Watch at the Gardens and sought to view the actual watch. The price was twice that of what it was selling for on ebay, and I wandered around mid valley aimlessly while debating on whether the price difference was worth it. In the end I felt the difference was made up by the service and comfort that I was buying directly from an authorised distributor. So as a picture paints a thousand words, here is my first and hopefully not last mechanical watch:

Am afraid Internet purchasing is as dangerous as it is.
First you need to buy the seller. Trusted seller with many references are the better bet.
Safest transaction is by using paypal, but only provide the buyer if its eBay transaction, afaik.
