QUOTE(Everdying @ Oct 15 2012, 12:27 PM) after awhile, u probably wish u cant see how ugly it is...unless of cos its a higher end nicely decorated movement It's not really for wearing... more of for amusement. Quite mesmerized by seeing one the other day...all those little gears moving.Or should I settle for one of those very cheap dealextreme ones? |

I've already molested the KC, Fossil... also Epos and Oris skeletons. even for the ones like kenneth cole or fossil which is just abit better quality...yet they still dont look nice. Didn't like the vine decorations of the latter 2. |

QUOTE(jackiewong @ Oct 15 2012, 05:11 PM) Anyone has comment on the Certina DS Action Diver (Ref.: C013.407.11.051.00)? IMO, too much of a Sub homage.certina Look nice neh.. i think the black 1 is sexist than the titanium version.. maybe cause i prefer black than grey color.. Oris Aquis got more character I think.. or if that's too dressy... Longines Hydroconquest? Approx same price range I think. My collegue just bought one... looks better on the wrist than on pictures. |

Yeah the Oris is HUGE but reason why I say its more dressy is that I can't see myself wearing that with pagoda singlet and selipar tat seng while the longines got a more tool-ish feel to it.
The Oris may work with a suit but I don't think the Longines can. What do you think? |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Oct 15 2012, 09:05 PM) Maybe I'm old fashion or even misguided but can't really understand this whole homage thing (some design cues are alright la). QUOTE(jackiewong @ Oct 15 2012, 09:26 PM) certina really that bad?.. QUOTE As early as 1965, Seiko had built Japan's first diver's watch, which was water resistant to an impressive 150 meters. This watch was used by the 8th Antarctic Wintering Team in 1966-1968. One day in 1968, Seiko's engineers received a letter from a professional diver from Hiroshima Prefecture. The letter shocked Seiko's engineers with its vivid description of the stresses and strains put on a watch by professional saturation divers who dive to depths of 350 meters. Seiko took up the challenge. After seven years of research, the Professional Diver's 600m, the world's first diver's watch with titanium case, a gasket impervious to helium and legible at great depths was created. It set a new standard for diver's watches. Ever since, Seiko has brought to the diving community innovative new watches that solve the very real problems of working at depth. In 1990, the Scubamaster was the first computerized diver's watch. In 2005, the Spring Drive Diver's 600m watch brought new levels of accuracy to the harshest environment on the planet. In addition to satisfying the needs of professional divers, Seiko launched an automatic diver's watch that would go on to become extremely popular worldwide. In 2000, the Automatic Diver's 200m SKX series was launched; this series has been highly appreciated and nicknamed "Monster" for its unique and impressive design by Seiko diver's watch fans. Seiko's heritage of diver's watches continues with innovative technologies and designs. So the natural progression.... |

QUOTE(Jason @ Oct 15 2012, 11:46 PM) Legend diver is a league of its own. the hydroconquest, at the end of the day is a sub homage at best. Agree but would't go as far as saying that the Hydroconquest is a sub homage. Yeah it follows the same diver formula, there's not much if any Longines DNA in it but it does look different enough for it to be not mistaken as a sub AND competitively priced QUOTE(patryn33 @ Oct 16 2012, 07:40 AM) It's just my opinion but lets discuss why.ps: no offense intended of course. |

QUOTE(jackiewong @ Oct 16 2012, 10:55 AM) personally, i think that having a look alike pretty girl is quite a good thing.. haha.. u know.. in the end u will still put ur sentiment on her.. so no problem what.. haha True that... full respect to those mods, project watches homages but that's more because of the time, tinkering and "sentiment" put into them. But for others, why not appreciate them for their own qualities instead. More fulfilling relationship like that. QUOTE(ck77 @ Oct 16 2012, 11:18 AM) Heard you guys talking about LLD Those lugs are really long huh. QUOTE(Jason @ Oct 16 2012, 01:55 PM) I agree its different enough to be not mistaken, but as you've said it follows the same diver formula which, IMO, if you want the real deal, buy the real deal and not a cheaper alternative. The Longines Hydroconquest for example, snowflake/diamond hour hand.. doesn't it remind of a certain Submariner? The Tudor Submariner. Its as though its pieced together with elements copied from all over. Well.. Agree on the rojak Legend Diver, that's original. Diver watch which I consider an alternative, instead of trying to look like a Sub would be pieces like Oris TT1 Diver, its NOTHING like a Sub. Or Ball Engineer Master II Diver. The Panerais are very original, and of course you have the grandaddy, the Fifty Fathoms. Having said that, its affordable and budget wise its not too far off from the Certina that initiated this discussion. Size wise it should fit a 6.25" wrist better than the Oris. |
