The answer is simple. When u press the home button, the display area is much smaller than the SD resolution, that's why the picture is sharp. But in viewing mode on your full HD TV, the resolution of the TV is higher than the SD resolution of the source, that's why it becomes not sharp. look like HD..

Same concept as when you enlarge a photo, it becomes blur. But when you downsize a blurred photo, it looks sharper.
