can Astro Byond signal be delivered using conventional antenna coaxial cable ah?
let's say, replacing the TV antenna with Astro dish, using the existing cable from the TV antenna to connect to the astro dish, can run or not btw the antenna cable is concealed within the wall, that's why dun wanna drill holes lay additional cable coz it looks ugly This post has been edited by PhakFuhZai: May 11 2012, 10:20 PM |

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ May 13 2012, 01:28 PM) I actually once connected an assteruk decoder to a coil of unshielded cable (you know, cable meant to carry electricity) with a MegaTV pigtail antenna on the other end and it's signal bar started fluctuating I dunno the cable hidden in the wall is satellite grade or antenna grade thoughActually tho, it's quite possible to do that, but expect the signal bar to be not very high and intermittent signal lost problem with HD signal. Problem is antenna grade cable is slightly thinner than satellite grade cable, and thus prone to signal loss. Also, antenna grade cable is unshielded compared to satellite grade cable, means it's prone to picking up interference. nowadays many newer homes have to resort to the built-in wall socket for the TV socket, or else the cable have to go through the window of the living hall anyone here successfully running Astro dish using the concealed wall cable? but anyway, isn't the standard antenna cable also unshielded one? they are still the coaxial cable anyway This post has been edited by PhakFuhZai: May 14 2012, 12:13 PM |

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ May 15 2012, 10:09 AM) bae yong = roughly Hokkien for "Cannot use" or "useless" well, can treat it as the method to get clearer reception of media prima and rtm channels I coined the term because I feel that Assteruk is useless for me- their HD contents doesn't please me, I'm one of the minorities interested in neither bola sepak nor chinese drama, and I've been disappointed by their channel choices. getting fedup with the FTA analog broadcasts |

how to check the signal strength on byond decoder ah
I was able to access to that screen (the one which shows 2 vertical meter), but both bars shown zero value.. yet I was able to receive both SD and HD channels btw, the dish was connected using the existing "antenna" cable, the installer just swapped the TV antenna with Astro dish.. surprisingly, the HD channels are just fine edit-> after firmware update to v3.0, now is able to show signal strength it is just 40% with value around 115-118 BER = 0.0e-7 @ 100% as of now, clear sky condition update-> after changed to No.1 transponder, it becomes 150 @ 60% This post has been edited by PhakFuhZai: May 25 2012, 11:56 PM |

QUOTE(jamesleetech @ Jun 5 2012, 11:36 AM) I think the Byond box network connection is used for selecting and confirming movies on Video On Demand so that we don't have to use sms or phone call to confirm purchase of any VOD movies to watch. I did not subscribe to PVR so cannot check what is inside the "Video On Demand" in the Home Menu. Please correct me if I am wrong. The Byond box network connection is definitely NOT for Astro On-The-Go service. Yes for VOD. the network connection is also used to download VOD content to the PVR or normal STB with ext HDD |

I remember what I seen earlier at Astro webpage, they did mention the minimum requirement for the network connection was 1Mbps, and users will have the option to download it for later view, or they can playback while they are downloading (sort of like youtube buffering)
I don't think satellite can offer true VOD experience, because satellite itself is only able to broadcast, NOT multicast nor unicast, the topology I use could be inappropriate but the context is more or less the same, take AOD as example, yes it can rerun the same episode for the entire day, but would we have the FULL control as to when to playback the episode, down to which minute of time we desire? NO, not without PVR. Now, try to relate back true VOD with AOD, just how many channels already dedicated just to deliver a few TVB dramas currently, imagine the amount of extra channels required to deliver the upcoming VOD content, its almost like one show per channel judging by how they do it for Astro First this shows that the true VOD experience can never be delivered using satellite alone, because it isn't a point to point communication to begin with This post has been edited by PhakFuhZai: Jun 5 2012, 03:50 PM |

they feel the pinch from TM HyppTV which also offer VOD service
and now we can also use Unifi to download Astro VOD, for as long as TM doesn't start to implement quota on their existing VIP plans |

QUOTE(AjkR06 @ Jun 13 2012, 12:50 PM) Mind you that Astro SD channels quality are FAR FAR FAR more better than Truevision Thailand... Sometime I feel 'bersyukur' when I compared between Astro and Truevision Picture quality... Their HD Channels also not so good in quality... in my area NTV7 can get clearer picture via analog terrestrial compare to Astro mia channel 107 I've been watched Truevision and FYI, watching their SD channels (especially HBO and their in house channel) are like watching the Youtube video streaming, just truevision one are a bit better... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Astro mmg overcompress the FTA channels and news channels |

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Jun 25 2012, 03:43 PM) Fact: most Monitor HDMI do not accept sound, it's basically a second DVI connection with HDCP and a different header only. Even if it has speakers, these speakers are normally independent of the monitor HDMI circuit and uses 3.5mm audio in jack. Only a few monitor models with speakers support sound through HDMI. |
