It can be bought from any computer shops but prices for different harddisks have increased a LOT because of floods in Thailand (december) last year.

It depends on which location you are staying. KL, PJ, Penang or Malacca ?

If KL, go to Low Yat Plaza, at No. 7 Jalan Bintang, Off Jalan Bukit Bintang, Bukit Bintang Central, Kuala Lumpur. Refer here.. http://plazalowyat.com/ Got many computer shops there such as Cycom Sales And Service, Viewnet Computer System, Thundermatch Technology, Compu-Zone. etc.

If, Petaling Jaya, go to Digital Mall at No. 2, Jalan 14/20 Section 14, 46100 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Refer here... http://www.digitalmall.com.my. Also got many shops there such as Jayacom Information S/B, Thundermatch Technology, ALL-IT Hypermarket, etc.

For many years I often travel from Pahang to KL and usually go to Lowyat Plaza... don't have any special preference so I bought from a few shops there since about year 2000... when only a few shops opened at that time. Bought a few WD My Passport AV (320GB, 2.5 in) at RM 230 each in 2010 BUT price have increased a lot now so please check yourself.

You can also find people in this forum who sell it at ... http://forum.lowyat.net/Memory&Drives. Be careful if you choose online payment and postage. Of course there are many reliable and trustworthy sellers in this forum but a few have been known to be conmen. I have bought from a few "trusted" ones by postage but I cannot let you know who, so find out on your own. Don't blame me if you got cheated so its advisable to COD (personally meet seller and then pay after checking items).

320GB most place no stock. 500GB and above plenty... that is why I ask.

there is better unencrypted sat radio alternative on-board satellite JCsat-3A at 128.0°E, but requiring 1.5m c-band satellite dish, bad news is astro decoder can not tune to these radio stations

Please correct me if I am wrong because I am not very sure.

I believe Astro uses the DtU (Direct-To-U) services using digital Ku-band to transmit digital TV and Radio channels to our homes. This means that the descrambler used to decrypt the protected satellite signals in our "decoder boxes" such as Byond box is based on Ku-band.

Because of this, am I correct or wrong to suspect that the Astro DMT, Byond and Byond PVR is built only to receive Ku-band signals... and NOT designed to receive C-band signals?

I think C-band transmission is less powerful which should require a larger satellite dish measuring between 10 to 12 feet in diameter. The stronger Ku-band spot-beam is precise enough to be received by a satellite dish measuring about 2 feet in diameter but is more prone to heavy thunderstorms.

So I am not surprised that satellite JCsat-3A at 128.0°E require a sat dish which is 1.5 metre (5 feet) in diameter. Maybe the Byond dish is too small.

from my understanding, signal transmission power as well as signal frequency determine the required minimum size of receiving dish

just look at those TV antenna, VHF has longer wavelength when compare to UHF, so VHF antenna is cut to have bigger size than UHF antenna

KU-band transmit at higher frequency, has shorter wavelength, thus required smaller dish, although bigger dish is welcome to reject more noise from adjacent satellite transmission helping dish to focus better, however at KU-band frequency more precision is needed to manufacture the parabolic dish

C-band at lower frequency, longer wavelength, bigger dish is needed

just like measat 3, jcsat got both KU and C band transponders on-board its satellite

Guys, you know what, my HD channels problem are all fixed! No more problem of HD channels disappearing often, it's really stable now. Some of you had recommended me to change the cable to RG6, well I didn't change it. I did intend to change it, but when I called to my friend's friend to come take a look (this time wanna try someone who is not from Astro), someone who knows how to handle Astro problems, they said it must be something loose from the dish.

I told them this time just change the cable to RG6, they said well let's check the dish first before changing the cable and then ok, I let them adjust the dish. While adjusting it, the people on the roof said "wow why everything here so loose, what kind of people do this kind of job??". This really surprised me because I thought the second guy that Astro sent to fix it many days ago had already tightened it, like I had told you guys over here many days ago. But now I know it's again a loosely done job by the second guy.

So after everything was settled, all HD channels are really stable now. The friend who fixed it even stay for quite long time to check whether the problem still recurring or not. It's really really stable now. So I can make one conclusion, the first two guys the came to install and fix my Astro B.yond, are utterly useless and can go to F OFF. Do this kind of shitty service, might as well don't do it. Suppose to help people, but actually bring more problems.

Yea, it's also very hard to know what they are doing up there on the roof with the dish, so thankfully this time it's a friend's friend, calling somebody you know to fix it is definitely better.

With Byond PVR, can rec 2 diff Chs. at same time...True.
However, if yu wanna watch @ same time while recording, can only watch either 1 of those 2 Chs yu are recording!
NOT a new diff Ch. from those 2 being recorded!! tongue.gif

Reason?
Only 2 inputs... smile.gif
