Hi there,

recently just migrated to WC and got myself the following:

EK Supremacy Waterblock (cool 3770k)
Swiftech MCP355 pump + xspc reservoir
EK XT 1x120mm radiator
Arctic F12 pwm fan

The problem is that i seem to be getting higher temps compared to when i use my noctua nh-d14. What would be the culprit at my current setup

load temps at stock speed when i am on Prime95 seems to be touching the 80 degrees mark.

I suspect the fan is the problem here. What do you guys think. Any recommended 120mm fan meant for watercooling? I read through and the noctua nh-p12 seems like a good fan. what do you guys think..

To start of the discussion topic, here is a photo of my current setup smile.gif
(config is pump + reservoir --> Radiator --> CPU Block --> Reservoir + Pump)

u need dual or tri radiator if u want to see the performance of WC

i have a 180mm radiator coming soon to be inserted in the front. But as far as fans for radiator goes, which is a good fan to go for?

@sidewinderz
hope u don't mind me saying this but won't ur tubes cause any problems?
though from ur picture, the tubes seem to bend nicely
i'm not an expert, also just started wc..just saying anyway, if no problem then okies ahaha

I see...thanks for the feedback bro, I am going to change my fan and see how the results go.

@sidewinderz,

using single rad in custom wc, the performance almost on par of any wc kit like Corsair, Coolit etc... if u wan to see the huge performance of custom WC.. then should go for at least dual rad onwards biggrin.gif
*
I see...But I will be having a 180mm radiator arriving soon (assuming the bulk is successful) =D Will report back once I got my fan changed.

QUOTE(sam sam @ Aug 13 2012, 10:16 AM)
ALso for single rad you need to use something thicker like the rx120 or the TFC 120. Atleast 60mm
*
Do you know who sells that radiator? The reason I went for a standard radiator is the fear of a thicker rad not being able to fit my case. But I will keep that in mind and possibly make a switch if results are not getting any better.

Operating temperature up to 60c, that is very hot to human touch. If you can touch the pump for a long duration, then its should be around <40-50c.
*
Thanks man. i think the operating temperature is as what you mentioned. Around 40-50 degrees but it does get a little toasty after prolonged touching. But would like to ask on the general life span of a pump. How long will it last before breaking down? smile.gif

You're welcome bro! wow, the colour matching for the monsoon fittings and the swiftech fittings looks pretty good!
run it slower if you can afford to, otherwise maybe attach a small fan or get a heatsink for it?
*
lol...Was googling if there is anyway on undervolting the mcp355 and apparently the pump cant operate anything less than 9v..wonder if any1 have any experience

QUOTE(nohal @ Dec 30 2012, 01:05 AM)
More crazy idea! Build a custom loop just for your pump!! biggrin.gifD Jk~

Yes, direct some airflow to the pump.

nice build...yeah just direct some airflow to the pump. Perhaps you can change the front fan to the back of the radiator instead of the front so it could get more air?
*
Thanks man.. biggrin.gif i did consider repositioning the radiator but by doing so, I wont be able to use my 90 degree fittings without some extensions..Maybe I will have a 80mm fan dedicated blowing the pump...hope it will help somehow.. smile.gif

that soda trick is nice. use soda for coolant! biggrin.gif

@sidewinderz, maybe use variable voltage controller. get it to start up at 12v, then drop it down to whatever.
*
hmmm...any good recommendation? tongue.gif

QUOTE(sam sam @ Jan 1 2013, 07:45 AM)
u need a fan controller that can output 3A per channel then you can use it to control the mcp355
also note most fan controller do not output 12volts at full load its slightly lower around 11.3 volts
*
Lol...I cant seem to find a fan controller that accepts molex as an input..hehe..For now, I think its quite ok..hehe...If you got any good suggestion please suggest. I tried looking at Lamptron fan controllers but their accessories does not accept any molex input sad.gif
