my simple review on Sharp Air Purifier FPE50E. dated use: 09.10.2014

due to the recent bad haze that seems to come and go like the four seasons. decided to get an air purifier to put in bedroom to improve quality of sleep and rest, and therefore improving health and fitness too.

was reading & researching around and found that my criteria in an air purifier is:
1) HEPA Filter
- generally remove bacteria and viruses.
2) Active Carbon
- generally remove bad small and Volatile Organic Compound (VoCs)
3) Dust / Odour Indicator
- at least you know when its dirty.

my budget was less than rm1,000 and there are some really nice ones in the market but the price is just beyond reach. i kind of like Samsung design, Sharp higher end design also look quite nice. goggled around and there seem to be some quite good review about Sharp Air Purifier.

i don't need a humidifier so that puts their F-series range of products for me which most of their price tag is below 1k except maybe FUA80E.

among all of them, i was quite interested in the FPE05E as it fits my budget, my room size is 25 square meter, 5 years filter sounds good and comes with odour & dust sensor. while the cheaper FUZ31E and FUA28E are prices around rm500 and rm250 respectively, their filters listed is only 2 years and lack of sensor for me, plus the area filtered is below what i need. so i got the Sharp Air Purifier FPE05E for rm9xx from a lowyat forumer named Edwin8373, he is reliable and responsibly, and this is my first time dealing with him as well.

i won't go through all the specs with you but this is more of my experience of using the Sharp Air Purifier FPE05E.

the unit is not too big but like a laundry basket, maybe smaller a bit but looks slim, which is good enough to place inside the room without too obstructing. taking out from the box reveal a nicely package unit and opening the back reveals the filter are in tightly sealed plastic. once open and install all the filter and ready to test the unit. my room is around the size of 21ft x 13ft and i placed the FPE05E near the middle and around 10ft away from where i sleep. i find it funny that the air outlet is on top and facing the back?!? this makes positioning a bit hard as you don't really want to put the air outlet facing a wall where it for sure will leave a black mark in due time. they could really have make it adjustable or a front air outlet. they also provided a small space on the left for you to write down when the unit started running so you can keep track of the filter.

powering up the unit and it looks good. nice color design on control panel.

the speed can be set to any five settings which is auto, pollen, slow, med, and high. i find that the me and high is a bit too noisy for sleep but the slow setting is just nice. at night i set it to slow because its barely audible. the high fan speed setting is used when i decided to clean the room for two hours while no one is in it. being able to dim the lights on the air purifier makes it a nice simple touch. it can serve as a night light if you have children.

i like the fact that
- there is timer for 2hr, 4hr, and 8hr.
- the light illumination for the control panel can be set to normal, dim, and off.
- and a child lock too if necessary.

i sleep at night with aircon, after using the Sharp Air Purifier FPE50E for a few days now, waking up feeling fresh despite some nights having a lack of sleep. which shows how important the air quality in my bedroom is when sleeping. i could smell the plasmacluster/ions but i could not discern it that how does this smell is relate anything to being in forest or nature, my other family members seem to disagree with me. however they do agree with me that the air feels lighter, easier to breath in as i did move the air purifier into the living room for movie nights & i set to medium fan speed which is not that audible with the TV on. ya... the unit is light and comes with handle on sides so easy to move around.

pretty satisfied with this unit at the moment.

currently,
i found other place selling this model at this time for this prices:
Seng Heng Electrical - RM949
House of Air Clearners - RM999

update 15.10.2014
i love the freshness in the room nowdays, i switch it on an hour or two before i go to sleep or even taking an hour or two nap on holidays and weekends. last time i used to use fan to take nap and waking up the room would feel slight warm and thick air, now no more and while nap with ceiling fan, i switch the fan speed to medium.

though i seem to notice that the air tend to be a bit dry while using the air purifier. this was noticeable when waking up. i remedy this by putting a bowl or a glass of water which seem to alleviate the dryness.

Well, it does depends on which brand of air purifier that you are using. Brand from A - Z and prices from A - Z as well.
A kancil is definitely not the same with a BMW car.

Ya if you believe it is important, then it is truly important. Just like water filter, it is needed to protect our kidneys, while air purifier is needed to protect our lungs. You might not see the effect immediately and seem very expensive at first sight, but in long term its really cheap.

This is a picture after several months of usage.. imagine if we dont have an air purifier, our lungs are doing the hard work.

Never believed in an air purifier myself. Does it really do anything...

suit you best. maybe you yourself don't have any dust allergies. then it is ok for you.

i myself have a daughter who have an allergy to dust up to the point she was admitted to hospital 4 times this year. Sent my daughter to kampung for several months, come back to my house she was coughing like hell because of dust.

After using air purifier, my daughter can breath easily since then she's gaining weigh just like normal baby. (she's lost her appetite bcos of her admission and all medicine she has to take)
