Personally, I was out of the Android scene for a while, so I consider myself a newbie. I've rooted my Note suing the Zergrush method detailed on that link, and then decided I want ClockWorkMod (CWM) for Nandroid backup, so I went the "Already Rooted" route. Fine and dandy so far.

From a newbie's point of view, it's hard to read and understand these abbreviations (CWM?) and tech jargon like "kernels", and the reason why seasoned users look for Nandroid/ClockWorkMod Recovery options. Writeups are far and few in between, and new users are faced with the enormous task of understanding those in such short period of time, and are expected to be up to speed with it. That's where mistakes comes in. Personally, I went the documented way, and then try to understand what I did, being familiar a little bit about the scene. Imagine a real newbie from another mobile OS trying to digest all this.

Just want to check any one have this problem too..just got mine unit last night and have this strange marks..izzit normal or should i send for warranty?

I’ve a strange problem with the screen of my Note, I noticed this when switching off the phone in a complete dark room. The screen turns dark grey for a split second before switching off, this is when I noticed some strange black marks beneath the screen.

I made a jpeg to replicate this problem (1st attachment), along with a screen capture of the marks (2nd attachment). Can somebody please download the picture and check to see if there are any marks on their phone?

You need to be in a complete dark room for this to work, it helps if you turn the screen brightness to 100% and allow a bit of time for your eyes to adjust to the dark.

I also added roughly what the marks look like.

You've answered your own question already. The MKVs downloaded are already stripped down. Compressing it further, you might as well just use a lower resolution movie.

The thing is, the Note is advertised to play MKVs and XviDs, but the 4GB limitation means its limited to lower bitrate videos at 720p resolution only. Adding AC3 5.1 only bloats its further.

"Avatar Extended Edition" clocks in at 3.8GB MP4 so that is dangerously close to the limit. It looks phenomenal though, thanks to the Note's deep black levels. Which is the reason why I picked a black Galaxy Note over the white, makes movie watching experience seamless, instead of an obvious white border on the white Note.

Just tried a display set just now its a huge dinosaur and the screen was so clear!

Damn! Even after upgraded the Firmware to .DXKK1 also cannot enable the Screenshot... I felt very dumb using Android... What did I do wrong?

guys, today my note screen turn green, and then the words all slanting, like bad tv reception for a while. do u think i should claim for warranty? i have a bad feeling that this screen will not last long. also my note tends to run slower, maybe bcoz i install many apps, but i already moved my apps to SD card (16GB class 10).

do u guys think 1st batch will have more problems?

i tried Kies for Mac to sync my note, but it can't locate my Note, keep saying connecting. is there any software like iTunes for iPhone? i wanna sync my iTunes songs and photo to Note.

The screen is so beautiful and the touch is so smooth...no way I am going to stick anything on it...

Guys, sorry if this has been mentioned before.
Last night my Mom bought a Samsung Galaxy S2.
But before that, she was contemplating on the Galaxy Note but the seller said the price is RM2500!!
And the price of S2 was RM1900. Therefore since there is such a huge difference of RM600, she decided to go for S2.

But how come now to my surprise, I see that the price is only RM2300?
Is this an original set or AP?

This is so annoying! The seller also almost made my Mom pay RM150 for  an AVG Anti-Virus.

i have previously downloaded books on sgs2 and when i signed into kobo in reader's hub on note, all my previously downloaded books appeared and began downloading.

Guys, wanna share some info with you all. Juz few days ago before i come overseas for outstation work, i transfer all my apps to my newly bought Transcend 16GB Class 10 Micro SD Card (@ RM99 from Lowyat), it keeps restarting itself, so i did a reset, erase everything that i have downloaded and install everything again, its ok now. so i might be suspecting that it might be the fake memory card. Also i told u guys about the lag, esp when u press the application icon, it stills display blank page instead of application list. Now everything is ok. so i think its best to store all apps inside the phone memory and media on the SD Card.

But it might also be i downloaded a lot of apps maybe a few cause the continuous reset. since i was only give less than 30sec upon each reset, i dun have enough time to move back the apps to phone memory.

so best bet is to save in phone memory. thanks

i consider myself very new to android. my opinion is... as first timer... i use the phone as it is first. use it for months... then know what i like or dislike... then only start to look for solutions that addresses my likes and dislikes.

i noticed that for songs and using the stock music player...
* on SD card, you can put it anywhere
* on phone, its the music folder located inside Samsung folder.

songs located in these folders will get 'recognised' by the player.

i found out last night... coz i placed some songs i wanted as ringtones in the ringtones folder. the stock music player would not detect them. but i could go to the ringtone folder, click and play the songs.

I don't use the stock music player, looks dull to me, plus IIANM, no ability to get album art, which is important to me. Even in the several cases that I do wanna check out the music I transferred and use the default stock music player, my music is centralized in one folder only, in my 64GB SDXC, so no problems there.

Which is why the advantage is with third party players, videos or audio. "DICE"(video) and "3"(audio) have options to point to the location of your movies and songs in a separate folder. Neater and easier to manage that way.

The easier route to alleviate this is to actually format the card from inside the Note itself. I had random reboots on the Note with the 16GB and 64GB cards I had. The 16GB wasn't formatted in the first place, I purchased, I slip it in, detected in the Storage setting, an I assume it's good to go. That's where the reboots starts. The 64GB wasn't even detected unless I format it inside the Note first. After format, no more reboots.

Android OS is very finicky when it comes to handling media scanning on external storage devices. If it detects a non-compatible or corrupt IO, kernel panics happens, hence the reboot. Sometimes it's the power draw from other services/apps(misbehaving ones) that affect IO to the card reader, and when that happens, again kernel panics, and reboot. Which is why, sometimes it is beneficial to have phones that does not rely on external cards, like the Galaxy Nexus or the iPhone. You want stability, not random reboots. Eliminating random reboots with Android phones with card slots sometimes is like playing Russian roulette, you pick an SD card and pray it is fully compatible with your phone, and not cause kernel panics. Which is why, picking from an established brand like Sandisk is all the more important. Not because it is more expensive, but it is more stable, than the relatively less-wellknown brands like Apacer even if they are cheaper.

and go allit to get a 2a charger, charging time is significantly reduce after i use 2A charger. 

some of you guys really too paranoid - anything "looks" or "sound" unusual straight point to possible phone fault.  Most of the time is user fault. 
not possible for battery level less than FULL.  the only way is to charge it to FULL then it will stop charging.

it doesn't matter even if it hit 90%.  This is not desktop PC.  STOP monitoring all the battery, memory, or whatever usage please, guys.    The system will monitor itself and close idle apps to free up ram if necessary, NO NEED at all to close those apps manually. 

guys, ive found a secret command. go to settings, about phone. and tap your android version as fast as you can. and the secret will be revealed

Guys, I have a question here. Anyone tried tether internet connection to Mac OS X? Can guide me how to do that?

Hi bro, I found the way to connect already.
After connected USB to MAC, dun select USB tether.
By default, MAC will prompt you for network setting after you connect Note to MAC.
Then you put *99# as number, and then go into Advance set the connection to GPRS(GSM/3G).
Set the APN according which ISP you are using.
Done. You can connect internet via USB already.

I tried this as well the other day. Digi is diginet but when click on dial, no response wo 

After few tests, I figured out the other way.
The model you set the GPRS right?
This time you change it to dial up, others leave it default.
Phone number is *99#.
And then press connect button.
This way always work for me. But the downside is, after connected, you cant use 3G in handphone until you disconnect from MAC.
