Just want to know. Is it possible to request for a higher salary if you are not entitled for CPF? The reason why i ask this is because there is no chance of me getting a PR anymore since I denouced my PR because i did not want to do national service. I just want to know since this is the case, is it possible for me to request my employer for a higher salary since i know that for singaporeans the CPF that is given is normally 16%

Hi everyone. For a direct contract job, how much more should I be paid. Say my expected salary for a permanent is SGD4700. How much more should I be paid for a direct contract job?

QUOTE(Aloong @ Jan 10 2012, 05:05 PM) Wat do u mean by direct contract job? From what I understand, in Singapore, most jobs are contract but most likely u get converted in Permanent after your contract finishes if the company needs you.Meaning they award a contract for to to complete a project? Or they offer u employment contract? For the first one, u have to check what are other contractor / service provider quoting lor. For second one, is no diff from normal employment. Ya direct contract is more project based. Meaning that they hire you for 1 year. After 1 year, your contract is then renewable depending on whether the project still needs you. There is less or even no chance of becoming permanent. Thanks It's difficult to check because I am currently based in KL. I am sure that there are some of you who are being contracted to a project and at the same time have experience in the permanent position. I just want to know the percentage diference between a contract position versus a permanent position in Sg Added on January 10, 2012, 6:34 pm QUOTE(MPIK @ Jan 10 2012, 04:25 PM) IT Developer6.5 years Degree in Computer Science cum degree in physics Is that a good salary SGD 4700? QUOTE(Guai Guai Zai @ Jan 11 2012, 11:08 AM) You can check from salary.sg http://www.salary.sg/2010/top-100-jobs-in-singapore-2010/ Presuming I get that job. I will have a thirteen months bonus. I think medical insurance is covered. Lack of job security I agree. I dun mind having lesser annual leave. I thought almost all job is a contract job in Singapore. Just that some job comes with the option of converting you to permanent some does not. And also, being a contractor, dun u think the pay should be much higher since i am now sacrificing my job security? I agree that SGD 4700 is good money presuming that I am not a contractor. Just want to know how much more they should pay for contractors. There are a few things you should take into consideration, like being a contractor you don't get to enjoy staff benefits that permanent staff do like bonus, medical expenses and with lesser annual leave and lack of job security. Nevertheless, SGD 4700 is very good money, is the 'happiness' salary for single men. If you have family, then abit susah but still manageable la. Thanks Added on January 11, 2012, 11:48 am QUOTE(Jurlique @ Jan 10 2012, 11:11 PM) Contract for 1 year. QUOTE(ivanswk @ Jan 11 2012, 01:55 PM) the root of your problem is $, If they have offered me a dollar to dollar with 20-30% increase I would have definitely grabbed it with both hands. My current pay is RM 6600 BTW so to expect a company to pay me SGD 6600 is definitely quite difficult as I will immediately become one of the top earners in Singapore without even proving myself. if they have offer u a dollar to dollar with 20-30% increase i guess u will not worry so much failure rate is there, i travel almost weekly and meet some frens in the plane, some dun last, after few month they give up job security one thing good about singapore is when they want u, they pay your asking price alot ang moh / expat here is just a figurehead, they still need local to run the business u can see most of them 3 plus already heading to the bar around raffles here Well you mistook me. Of course I will be taking that job with the presumption that I will stay no matter what happens. I am also not that concern about Job Security. Problem is that a contract worker should always be earning more then a permanent worker of the same capability because they sacrifice their job security. When say something happens, it's the contract worker that gets pushed out first followed by the permanent worker. Contract workers are always viewed as "not so important". That is why they get paid higher just in case something happens to them. |

QUOTE(ivanswk @ Jan 11 2012, 06:49 PM) am not in IT so dun shot me, firewall up It's not the top earner but then it's higher then most of the average ppl. My friend who is 35 years old and graduated from NUS doing support in IBM is only earning about SGD5500 and he is also a citizen over there.but can only share a case i know off about contract staff, last time compaq contract out all their desktop troubleshooting to third party, and this contract is will be subject to tender after a period basiclly lowest bidder win, these 3rd staff on contract basiclly follow the new co who win the contract but as the tender is getting lower, mean those contract staff also subject to a certain paycut when joining this new 3rd party co and this vicious cycle keep continue .. 6.6k is not top earner in singapore leh seantang will tell u, u still below sandwish class mercury will still label rubbish materazzi will laugh at u cause u in IT mackiddo will only wish u good luck hahah.. btw deodorant din take pay cut when coming.. sux i am steppin on everybody toe, happy lunar new year to all My brother who got a first class honurs in engineering and was on the dean's list in NUS . He is only about 25 years old but he might be earning SGD 5k. Do you think that he can be used as a valid example for comparision? If I was earning SGD 6600 in Singapore, position wise, I will be much much above as compared to my position right now. To be honest, I think you really have to be very very lucky to be earning more then what you are earning in Malaysia. Well, i think you are talking about a different case here. Yeah they are subjected to a paycut but if say there is a permanent worker in their ranks the contract worker has to always earn more then the permanent worker unless those contract worker are from India or Bangladash then different story. My point being that contract worker has to always earn more then permanent no matter what even if the benefits are similar to the permanent worker because the contract worker has sacrificed his job security he should be compensated for that. Just would like to know how much more a contract worker has to be paid. Anyone with any experience can share with me? Added on January 11, 2012, 7:21 pm QUOTE(deodorant @ Jan 11 2012, 07:09 PM) I think you greatly underestimate salaries in singapore. lots of ppl in this thread (not including me cos i'm poor and get paid crappy money), if they woke up tomorrow with $6.6k salary they'd commit suicide. Well what if they get retrenched. Would they still commit suicide? This post has been edited by sylar111: Jan 11 2012, 07:21 PM |

QUOTE(rayhvs @ Jan 12 2012, 10:12 AM) Hi, thank you so much for your concern on my "poor" English and finding a job in Singapore. Yes, I’m admit that I have a poor English, and may be is a dump, but I’m trying to improve it. I understand how you feel and what you mean. ALL your comments and posts just meant “Rayhvs, your English is poor and please improve your English before you trying to get a job in Singapore”. Why don’t you just comment on this, instead of elaborated so much to deteriorate my value and end up it may spoil your mood and your personality yourself. Thanks again. Well, to be honest. The standard of English here is really really terrible. Even for technical position you will not go far with this kind of English. Remember even technical people also have to prepare documents(Test scripts, Design Specs, etc). I am generally not very critical about Grammatical Errors as I am also from a technical background and I do not really care if there are some grammatical errors here and there as we are not English teachers after all but your English here is really bad. I mean from your English people may even get the wrong impression that you are from some Kampung. Seriously brush up your english even if you decide not to go to Singapore. |

Just curious. Is the IT Industry in Sg slowing down? I submitted my resume to monster.com.sg. Seems that I am only getting calls on Malaysian Jobs but not Singapore Jobs. Just curious only. Because normally I should get calls pertaining to Singapore Job since my resume is in monster.com.sg rather then in monster.com.my. I am a software developer by the way. Not that the opportunities in Malaysia are bad. I believe that the opportunities in Malaysia are just as good or even better then Singapore. Just that I have lost confidence in the economy here.
I think the best way is through job agents rite? Since most companies that advertised on Jobstreet, monster, etc would prefer candidates who are PRs or Citizens. Can anyone please introduce job agents to me? Added on January 20, 2012, 5:11 pm QUOTE(L7Awesome @ Jan 20 2012, 11:58 AM) You can try Netstar, NCS, AT&T, CSC, NCR to name a few. Look out especially for NCS website or the job board as I know they always hire tons of Network Engineers. Funny and interesting things happens when you look for jobs. Wow. I think chances of getting hired directly are very slim for Malaysians. To be honest, I think the likelyhood of getting an interview is higher if you go through agents. Well I am seriously looking for a job and can anyone suggest any job recruitment agency. Thanks for the help provided. This post has been edited by sylar111: Jan 20 2012, 05:13 PM |

QUOTE(extremepower @ Jan 20 2012, 05:14 PM) mate, there are so many factors. Slowdown is definitely a yes. If I am the employer, I prefer to have them stay here and meet up with me. I wouldn't make international calls unless that candidate is like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie. Dat is why it is easier to go thorugh job agents rite?Added on January 20, 2012, 5:30 pm QUOTE(extremepower @ Jan 20 2012, 05:14 PM) mate, there are so many factors. Slowdown is definitely a yes. Actually recruitment companies are easier because you can at least call them up. It is easier for things to get done if you go directly thorugh themjobstreet.com.sg got lots of recruitment companies for you to contact. Also, note that they will get 3 good candidates for the interview. So, at times you may be loosing out if you travel long distance. This post has been edited by sylar111: Jan 20 2012, 05:30 PM |

QUOTE(crazy25kid @ Jan 20 2012, 05:33 PM) Well, a lot of recruitment agencies in Singapore have clients in m'sia too. Just curious. Did you managed to get a job in Sg in the end from monster.com.sg? Or u got it from other sources.I guess this is what they call regional HQ. I received calls coming from Singapore asking if I am interested in a job in M'sia before even with a title stating looking for job in Singapore. |
