If COE was 20k (or under) instead of the 60-70k it is now I'm sure lots of us here would buy as well
Working in Singapore v9, How to save 100k in 3 years to buy HDB?

QUOTE(Def @ Dec 22 2011, 10:24 PM) serious ah?...COE 60-70k. Then only rich people can afford car lor. Poor people like me take bus or mrt forever and ever and ever speaking of mrt, fuuu today i first time experience peak hour mrt. wait at city hall for red line, watch 3 trains go by, 4th train only managed to just squeeze my way in. if i had to do this daily it would increase my stress levels considerably, lol. hmm off peak scheme, government should revise it too. make it like uh ... 50% of regular coe (instead of flat rebate). |

QUOTE(always me @ Dec 22 2011, 11:08 PM) this thread exists in a wrong section. most of the time people here are discussing more about living in singapore, not so much about working or developing a career in singapore. you tak suka you keluar? lol. there isn't a proper section, a few times various people have tried to open in kopitiam, but /k/ tends to have tons of spam so those attempts all quite fail. at least here most of the posts are somewhat related. besides, since LYN is a "Malaysian" forum, a thread entitled "Working in Singapore (as a foreigner)" will naturally also include talk about living conditions, differences between the countries, etc etc, so it's partially on-topic what. |

QUOTE(Materazzi @ Dec 23 2011, 09:50 PM) Thanks for the food for thought. However, I still say it's easier to get RM6.6k in Malaysia than $4.7k in singapore. It's because my Spv is 30 yrs old and got more than RM10k/month now. I'm curious, have you ever worked or spent any time in Malaysia? You always seem to talk like you very experienced in MY/SG. Anybody who's worked in both MY and SG will know that it is easier to get $4.7k in SG than RM6.6k in MY. |

QUOTE(me_mbh @ Dec 24 2011, 04:39 PM) Hi All, Wish to ask; anyone renewed their passport in sg b4? mind 2 share ur exp? heard that really need to be there at the commission very early for the queue? is it true abt that? thanks 1st! I renewed mine a couple of months ago. I reached there about 20 minutes before gates open, only was about two dozen people in the queue. Once in, I headed straight to the counter and got the #1 number for the day cos I had everything ready already (photos, form, etc). Few things to note: Embassy is fucuking far from the MRT station, it's like a 25 minute walk. Also, you have to go guardhouse to get your visitor pass before joining the queue. |

QUOTE(ThanatosSwiftfire @ Dec 25 2011, 07:54 PM) How's the rental market like in Singapore (as a tenant)? I've been trying to get hold of a 3-unit HDB to rent somewhere around CBD (or at least within 10-15 minutes of it), and prices that are floating around seems to be about 2.5k-3.5k. I'm renting 4-room (3 bedroom) hdb in bedok, 5mins walk from mrt station, at 2.3k. I viewed a dozen units around this area (bedok tampines pasir ris simei) and it seems to be pretty much par for the course price for this nexk of the woods. |

QUOTE(ThanatosSwiftfire @ Dec 25 2011, 08:22 PM) Do you find yourself getting sick of such foods, because from what I gather from other frens of mine, they all came down budgeting SGD500 per month on food, and after a while they just lose it and start spending like SGD900-1500 a month on foods (at fancier places). You should know yourself and your taste buds. The thing is that generally Singapore hawker food (i.e. cheap) is inferior tasting to Malaysian hawker food. Some people not so particular about food then can tahan. Food at restaurants is great and has huge variety but isn't cheap. Example, some ramen places charge $20 per bowl. For me, I normally eat cheap on weekdays and splurge a bit on weekends, I end up spending about $900/month on food & groceries (not including special occasion meals which will easily run you into triple digits per meal). |

QUOTE(Gengarbear @ Dec 26 2011, 10:39 PM) so the problem is which employement visa should I best apply for ? eh, you don't apply yourself, company applies for you. EP is $2.8k a month and above, as long as you're offered that much the company should apply EP for you. ALL of us here are doing exactly the same that is giving our own opinions about various subjects. you disagree either you argue or ignore, why you need to butthurt until like this? anyways, LTA statistics for cars registered between jan-nov 2011!
BMW 4,495 Porsche 567 Maserati 85 Ferrari 82 Proton 73 Bentley 55 Lamborghini 42 Rolls Royce 36 Perodua 14 I can't understand why Proton / Perodua are still able to sell cars here. The Proton Saga 1.3 is $89k, which is about the same price as the Suzuki Swift, and more expensive than the Kia Cerato 1.6. Or you could add about $10k and get a Toyota Vios, which is a vastly superior car. Added on December 27, 2011, 12:15 pm QUOTE(Aloong @ Dec 27 2011, 12:02 PM) Couple of years ago, I heard that's pretty common (in the accounting firms) whre employer pay you the 16% in cash. Depends on company / sector? It's still pretty common in the big banks here to encash the 16% for nonPR/SC's. This post has been edited by rexona: Dec 27 2011, 12:15 PM |

QUOTE(heavenhell @ Dec 27 2011, 04:12 PM) Ya duno my agent told me wat co broke deal. But she said i have to bear alone the 1 month agent fees wor zzz ask your agent go fly kite. http://www.citi-relocation.com/generalterms.html QUOTE Co-broke When brokers are working on a 'co-broke' basis, they are sharing exclusive listings with each other. In a co-broke transaction, one broker will represent the buyer or renter, while the other will represent the owner of the property. The commission is usually split 50/50. 1 year lease = 1 month agent fee, of which the tenant's agent (i.e. your agent) takes half, and the landlord's agent takes the other half. If your agent ask you to pay 1 month that means somehow they pakat to make you pay all the commission. your agent is supposed to represent your interests. I signed a 2-year lease on my rental and I only paid 1 month agent fee to my agent (landlord paid 1 month to her agent). This post has been edited by rexona: Dec 27 2011, 04:17 PM |

QUOTE(Materazzi @ Dec 27 2011, 10:55 PM) quarter portion, it means only about S$700? In here at least I can save 75%. not everybody can live day in day out on a shoestring college student budget. as salary rises, so would most people's standard of living / expenditure. like me, sure i can survive by renting a utility room for $300; but it's much more comfortable to come home to my own (rented) unit where i can laze on the couch, watch whatever TV i want, come and go as i please, be as dirty or loud or noisy as i please without having any housemate conflicts. |
