My younger brother works for SIA and not only malaysians are hired, indons, koreans, japanese and indian nationals are hired as well but in limited quantities but thats gonna change since the younger generation of singaporeans are picky and generally dont like being in the service line.
*
Then in this case, just curious, what line do they want to be in as Service line is one of Singapore's bread and butter.

this morning my taxi ride to office, the taxi driver was saying he can't afford to buy house in SG so he buy in JB and every day drive over causeway to work, lol.
*
Actually there are a lot of taxi drivers doing that. In the morning if you take taxi, quite a number of SG taxis in MY. I heard about these stories countless of times.

If you have flexible job hour, you can choose to drive in and out of SG. I drove in and out from SG everyday. Still cheaper than renting a room in SG.
The jam at Causeway is not so bad nowadays, the officer at custom are very efficient in directing traffic to respective lanes. On normal days it takes me 10 - 15 mins to cross
*
Yesterday evening's traffic was bad. It took me about two hours to get through the causeway.

When too many SG Taxi appear in JB and with the current high COE price, the gov should take some action. Else you will never get enough taxi in morning rush hour.

Last sunday evening heavy rain in JB area and long jam at CIQ. I detour to tuas, take BKE back to CTE all within 1 hour.
*
Wow, I think today I should do that. Do you stay in JB as well?

I Have a place in JB, moving there in future. I will queue up at CIQ if I have the TIME since my destination is north part of SG. The detour will cost ~s$20 more for possible saving of 1hour. It was almost 10pm and my kids have school tomorrow morning so I take the chance, lucky not much car on 2nd link.
*
The unfortunate thing about Tuas is that normally the traffic jam will begin way after the long causeway but will not be able to monitor via the traffic camera. At least for CIQ, it can be viewed. However, I think more and more people are going in daily. Now you can even see those big merc with J plate going in to work.

Car traffic will be very bad if you leave late. around 7pm, it is really jam until BKE Woodlands Ave 3 exit. but i ride bike, so won't affect me.
But in the morning, it really fluctuate. You need to pray everyday that those stupid lorries don't block the car lane. if they do so, to cross immigration alone take you at least 1 hour.

but riding bike is better. the time taken is very consistent. if lucky, then u cross within 20 mins. if bad luck, 30 mins. so easier to manage your time.
*
I think yesterday was really out of ordinary maybe due to the fact that it was a holiday in Johor. Can see a lot of cars with a mpv load of people in there too. Hopefully today will be better. This and yesterday morning, the traffic is very clear. So maybe today cannot hang around long and once done with job, have to leave.

Yea it can be very time consuming to cross the border even though the distance is near. For me I think it's still ok to spend 2 hours daily in traveling. 1 hour go, 1 hour back. Not too bad la.. Many of our fellow country peole in KL travel like that also  smile.gif
SG is really one of the richest country in the world by looking at how the price of the COE gone up in recent years. Singaporeans are getting richer and richer, the demand for COE seems to be rising forever.

As long as I can afford, I won't be considering a car pool. Seantang has stated all the reasons well why car pooling is troublesome  ohmy.gif

Keen on getting a job with car allowance after my graduation from NUS later. Anyone knows what is the car allowance rate like for sales/marketing personnel in SG? My sis's company, an MNC in healthcare industry is offering SGD1200/month for their fresh grad sales staff.
Good points.
*
It will be more than 2 hours daily. During normal commute, expect about 1.5 hours per way so get ready for three hours quality time spending in the car.

Wow $4,500, no wonder there are damn lots of BMWs and Mercs around. Great! I'll work hard and try to get into those big companies like yours smile.gif
3 hours? Awww.. What about 2nd link? I know we have to pay extra charges though. But I expect no congestion over there?
*
Well, second link will have a lot less traffic. Depending on where you stay. Do take into consideration the jam within JB as well especially if you hit Jalan Tebrau or The Tun Razak Highway. From Singapore too, it depend on where you work or where you want to park your car.

malaysia gov really doh.gif
*
Now they are working on the MACS system. Also I have a bad feeling that they will also toll us when we enter Singapore. They have setup the Touch and Go system there. So maybe now we have to pay double. Somehow I think Malaysian govt found out that it's a profitable business to tax us.

You might even want to add in another RM6.20 into that or even higher when the EDL is in operation. They seems to be toll-ing those going into SG to finance the construction.

Hahah.. BN trooper or not, I think BN govt found a way to suck $$ from those travelling between M'sia and SG daily. EDL will be tolled at the CIQ checkpoint. Though we do not use EDL, still kena subsidize it for everyone to use! So I think for those who decides to travel daily via car, maybe can add an additional cost to your travelling allowance.

i fully support the gov on this. This really successfully achieve the mission to get $$ from the rich to subsidize the poor.
If you are rich enough to pay $20 daily for the car VEP, the RM6.20 means nothing to you. the $20 it self its already RM49.
If you say u are poor, u can opt to ride a motorcycle or take a bus.
*
Haha...you have got your point. The problem is that we are paying for something we do not use.

I also fully support this and I hope Sg side will stand by their words which is, "we will follow the rates of what our counterparts in Msia is charging".
Maybe time to increase VEP also. haha. Such a long time never revise already  tongue.gif

BTW, quite a number of those who stay in JB drive Sg car, so all along there is no S$20.

JB town will be dead sooner than you think once they imposed this.
*
Well, I think there will be more folks seeking to rent room/HDB in SG. So it would be great for those who are renting out their rooms. Maybe the good thing is that it will reduce the traffic going through the causeway.

"On the justification in imposing a toll even on non-users of the highway, Mohamed Razeek said the highway would benefit the majority of the locals who travel within the city."

Malaysia Boleh!  Somali pirates also "tax" the passing ship for the benefit of locals right?

Hope RM6.20 can buy smooth trafiic and save some travelling time.

BUTTTT  HOORRRRRRR!!!

the money goes to MRCB.

"The Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) is a property development and investment company."

and the CEO said "would benefit the majority of the locals who travel within the city". The reporter should report who are the stake holder of the company who will sapu all the money. Another SUCKER project by BN.

if you say the money is for maintaining the road then what is the point of keeping JKR and non user being force to pay to maintain a road that they did not use.

The Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad, EPF is in it. So this is a tax payer money funded project but profit goes to private investement company. another satu malaysia thumbup.gif

the money goes to MRCB.
This is the part where I think paying that toll do not lead to a greater good for the society. It's for someone to finance their newest Merz or purchasing the highest class condo in Bangsar or even that private jet trip to some exotic locations for their families and friends annual travel. I do not mind paying the SGD20 for the toll knowing the efficiency of Singapore's road and it's in a way greater good for the society.

Here are two of the many news I read through the last few days....
http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/litee/m...h-causeway-toll
http://www.todayonline.com/Hotnews/EDC1112...ackles-in-Johor

From my rough guess and based on previous LDP hike experience, it will be RM6.20 one way the lowest and worst case scenario RM6.20 each way along with the RM2.90 toll right now.

That was what i read also, my puzzle is the "EDL" as what was reported that you will be charged whether you use or not use the EDL. I cant really comprehend what they mean.

The full fare will be rm9.10 per way. Then, myself will be affect max rm9.10 per week as i normally use 2nd link to go out from Singapore and sometimes use the woodland to enter as free entrance. Pity those who commute daily as RM18.20 per day extra but in terms of sgd dollars, not that much also but still is money and going into MRCB pocket and later channel into all the BN cronies pocket.
*
Hopefully that will be the worst case scenario. EDL stretch from Pandan to before Singapore checkpoint. Since the Toll will be charged at the point when we show our passport in Malaysia checkpoint, we will not be able to avoid it though we did not use EDL at all. That's what they meant you will be charged irregardless if you are using it or not.

Why don't you just send in resume (keep sending and make that as your 2nd job) and see what happen. I think if you do not apply at all, you will not get it even though we tell you that a programmer can earn SGD5k a month. Also it depend on your experience. I believe the main thing is to apply and apply without giving up. It may take a while before you can land a job with a pay that you want.
