QUOTE(WyjSwmW @ Jan 8 2012, 01:44 PM)
Madness.

Why POSB ATM can only withdraw POSB money?

In Malaysia, Maybank ATM can withdraw Public Bank money or other banks money and all ATM are interchangeable.

Why Malaysia can do it but SG can't?
*
Because in Singapore, branch and ATM availability is a source of competitive advantage. If I were a POSB customer who opened an account with POSB because of the convenience, I'd be very pissed off to see UOB or OCBC customers queueing up in front of me.

QUOTE(WyjSwmW @ Jan 8 2012, 02:43 PM)
I dun understand...
But from the customer point of view, it will be more convienient for POSB customers to withdraw money from UOB ATM as well.
Yes for customers of the smaller banks but not really for DBS/POSB.

QUOTE(WyjSwmW)
And if OCBC and UOB can share ATM, I can't understand why DBS/POSB can't share ATM with UOB.
Same reason why Apple uses a proprietary 30 pin connector instead of micro usb like Android. Or why Apple, Android, BB, Windows and Nokia don't share their app stores. Why SBSTransit didn't share buses with SMRT during last month's MRT debacle. Why it took 10 years and a compulsory government edict to stop SIM locking in SG and another 10 more to get number portability.

QUOTE(WyjSwmW)
In Malaysia, I dun see people pissed off if I maybank customer withdraws money from RHB ATM.
That's because ATM networks are not as saturated as SG. If you find an ATM in Malaysia, especially all those pendalaman areas - it's probably the only ATM within walking distance.

Guys,
Due to work exigencies I will be touching down Singapore on the 21st of jan from a long haul flight. To ensure I can still make it back with my family for reunion dinner, I purchased a bus ticket from Larkin. All the other alternatives have been exhausted.

Question is, my bus will depart on the 22nd at 9am. Given the high traffic volume, please advise the fastest route to reach Larkin from Singapore. Thanks
*
I used to fly Ipoh-JB via AirAsia regularly a few years ago and would take Comfort Delgro taxis from JB's Kotaraya II bus/taxi terminal back to SG.

Point is that the SG taxis must have brought passengers from SG to JB in the first place.

You might want to google or even call Comfort to see how it works. Maybe you can even book one for 6am or something.

Seantang, if you have stayed at Big4 for 10 years. Maybe you will become a FD/CFO of 500 Fortune now.

This guy's job scope is only Indonesia. He's not FD of Rio Tinto PLC. Only PT Rio Tinto Indonesia. From his task list, he doesn't have business or profit management/partnering and he doesn't have funding/treasury/credit. But he does have accounting and tax. So more of a controller. Probably reports to the Indonesia CFO or Asean FD/CFO.

What do you mean with Indonesia CFO?? FD=CFO la..it is a british term since Rio Tinto is an Australia company. He reports to FD in Australia. HQ is in Australia Melbourne and London.

Or this one, she worked 7 yrs in KP and become a senior manager, in commercial, with only 7 years I doubt you can achieve senior manager.

No point for these posts in the Singapore thread. If you like these Indons so much, just follow them lah. Why heboh-heboh here?

And here's why I don't like audit firms: They abuse you and then expect you to say thank you for the privilege. We try not to hire former auditors who're managers or above... they are damaged goods.

QUOTE(bellion @ Jan 9 2012, 09:29 AM)
What was your personal experience in working with audit managers who were hired to work in a commercial environment?
At the risk of being stereotypical, my experience was that THEY think they are capable of doing ANY finance process and have business acumen in abundance. This is ok for people with 2-3 years experience. Auditors with that experience have typically seen more and done more than their peers in commercial. But it's quite different if you're talking about 7-10 years or more in the big MNCs where they have to compete with people who've by now, become subject matter experts for their specialist areas. Despite what THEY think, former audit managers are basically generalists (in terms of their knowledge in areas other than statutory accounting) attempting to compete in specialist areas. Very few are recruited to manage the entire dept or function or business where their generalist skills might be a better fit.

In terms of business acumen, they always keep talking about how their clients did this, did that etc... but if called upon to make go/no-go decisions on pricing, tactics, customers, investments, purchases - where they need to pay for and live by their decisions (not their clients) - they freeze. They simply have no experience running a business.

Why do people say audit where you learn lots.
Ask people.

my spv/Financial Controller hasn't worked as an auditor. My CFO worked in Pwc for more than 15 yrs then join my coy as CFO. Why did he hire someone with no audit background?
Ask he.
QUOTE(Materazzi)
Will you hire someone with non audit background?
Already.

Then what is your comment about him/her? better than someone with audit background?
I hired them, I trained them and one of them will succeed me one day. But as with all things in life, there are no absolutes.

Dunno why some types of people always like to make themselves feel better by making motherhood, across-the-board, impossibly definitive conclusions like "engineering is better than accounting". In all industries, you have some greater roles, lesser ones and all have to work together to keep the corporate engine running. It is pointless to generalize.

guys... is billy bombers good?
I've been to Billy Bombers at Cineleisure Orchard quite a few times for their 1 for 1 lunch deals (Citibank card deal, I think). It's okay lah at half price ($14-15), much better than what you'd get at Jack's Place for the same price. Food quality is comparable to Applebees at 111 Somerset (old Singapower building). But the Cineleisure outlet has a reaaally hot Filipina waitress... so food for both tummy and eyes.

Best ribs, steak, gwailo cooking meat... Lawry's at Mandarin Gallery. Expect to spend around a hundred bucks per head for entree and dessert, not including drinks.

Every time i go queue up at ippudo i see Larry's. Been tempted to go and try but eh ... $100/pax is special occasions only pricing for me biggrin.gif
It's a "sales director's in town and looking for dinner partner" place for me.

Ippudo's nice... keep adding sides until the damn ramen's $30-40 a bowl. Another place I won't spend my own money on.

Clarke Quay... sorry... not a Clarke Quay fan. Only been to Hooters there, and a couple of nameless, not very memorable places.

that's asex not unisex  hmm.gif

Asexual reproduction means that just one "parent" can produce offspring... like bacteria, some amphibians.

Unisex... since there's no such scientific definition outside the hairdressing field - I can only assume it means our friend has "UNITED" both male and female sexual reproductive organs in his body... thereby heshe is capable of f-ing himself nod.gif
