It's happening randomly. Need to try a few times before it starts up and then behaves perfectly after that. Watched a full blu ray, finished Infamous 2 (though it does crash randomly). I'm leaning more towards a hdd corrupted scenario. Will wait till absolutely must before reformatting or replacing the hdd. 
p/s: Sucks that the PS4 isn't backwards compatible. Sigh.
